Darnold to the Panthers
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to 17islongenough's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The 2018 Allen season was such a poor offense. They had traded a considerable amount of talented players for the picks needed to acquire Allen, and their big free agent acquisitions were Murphy and Star. Offensive line had many starts by the likes of ducasse, miller, bodine, and mills. Offense scored fewer than 14 points 8 times. Petermans baltimore/chicago games and 2 derek anderson starts were 4 of those 8. I think people that complained about his accuracy/inconsistency needed to watch other QBs perform with that terrible offense. After the Bears game, they started giving snaps to some different players like mckenzie and foster and eventually just dumped benjamin/holmes entirely and you saw a bit more of what allen was capable of. -

Now i wonder where they go with their first. Parsons maybe if available, or the top CB on the board? -
I honestly didn't watch as much college football this year so i don't have an opinion. Players I've remembered wanting before? Russell Wilson in the trade up for Graham - I was so sure that's what we were doing.... just an absolute failure. Dez Bryant the year we drafted Spiller. Allen over Rosen. There were bad ones too though Treadwell in 2016 Geno and Te'o in 2013 Maybin in 2009 Quinn in 2007 Leinart in 2006

Week 17 against the Jets with them controlling their playoff destiny. I had some jets friends who were getting cocky after the win week 16 against NE, and they basically laughed at the thought that poor old Rex and buffalo could do anything. 3 4th quarter fitz INTs later, they missed the playoffs.. I delighted in the suffering of others - If i can't have a good team, i want all my friends teams to suck too. Also, upon rewatching these highlights, watkins was great when healthy.

I tend to agree. Only way Harris makes a ton of sense, is if you think he can be the piece that you feel puts you over the top in terms of super bowl. I personally think running back in with the same defense is a mistake. We let them run on us in the first meeting by playing the pass on every RPO, and in the 2nd game they carved up the zone. But that game, they tried other stuff, man, blitzing etc. Nothing worked. Thats why Im reluctant to just say the offense needs the most work.

I just felt like all outside rushes were outside zone, and we were getting wrecked on the backside. That play doesn't work if you can't cut back, and the cutback lanes were swarmed with backes or linemen. So to me the execution there is largely on the blocking, especially williams and mongo/winters on the backside.

Not sure if mid-4.5 is "not fast enough". Kamara ran a 4.56. Edwards-Helaire ran a 4.6. Chubb ran a 4.52. Hunt a 4.62. Jones a 4.56. Montgomery a 4.63. This rushing offense stinks at the moment. The offensive line needs to improve, the backs, and the playcalling. You could be bo jackson and it doesn't matter when you're running into a wall.

After the 4 years lawrence might be looking at 50+. So if Lawrence so 4/40 plus 10/500. That comes out to 14 years 540. Shave off the last 2 to even up the years and it's 440. You might be able reduce year one (5th year option) of the new contract but it'll be high if he's a pro-bowler/all-pro. Allen 2yr 30 (6.9 this year, and 23 for the 5th year option), then we'll say 40 per for 10. So 12 years 430. So honestly, the total cost of ownership is pretty comparable over the next 12 years. Not to mention it goes against the grain of trying to win a super bowl *this* season.

I think they can win a super bowl with him tbh. They seem to always have a really strong defense, his rushing ability combined with a solid offensive line will keep them in most games. Their passing attack with Roman is a bit weak, but a new coordinator might help them figure out how to more effectively come back etc. The fact that they're likely playoff bound every year helps too. Once you're in - maybe you need a little luck to avoid having to play Allen/Mahomes 2 weeks in a row (or avoid them entirely). I always look at the Tomlin steelers for this example as they won a super bowl without playing manning or brady (injured).

Cam's arm is in rough shape. He can no longer zip them in with bad footwork, he can't rely on the arm strength alone to drive the ball either. I don't think he's got the drew brees levels of accuracy or knowledge either that can help transition that into a different style. He was never money on the slants, or money with timing. Basically he's tim tebow now, everything has to go really well for him to pass the ball effectively.

If press man is a concern, stack and bunch your receivers. Maybe move them closer to the QB, or get playmakers in motion. Don't just assume what you've been doing will work. I was less concerned with the holding "press" coverage, and more concerned with the offensive lines inability to protect. Jones wrecked buffalo that game.

The rg3 trade came to mind with the Rams. They turned it into: Brockers Jenkins Pead Ogletree Bailey Robinson 3 1st round picks - and some change. None of these players were the main catalyst for turning the franchise around. Robinson was an outright bust at #2 overall. Then the rams moved up for Goff - and Tennessee got Corey Davis, Henry, conklin, Austin Johnson. These big trades are also confusing as hell to follow since they almost always have further trades either up or down.

DaQuan Jones a backup 1 technique addition

Last year of his rookie deal - he hasn't exactly lit it up out there either. In 2019 he was everyones favorite whipping boy - replaced by edmunds in 2020. It was constant talk of - star getting moved by 1 guy, star generating no push, star not occupying his gap... etc. He was better at it than Oliver and Zimmer - who arent 1Ts. But lets not act like he was all-pro. -
Sammy Watkins to Ravens

Agreed. He had a nice year with Roman as well. He's a nice boundary route runner and he tracks deep throws fairly well. Him and brown should be a solid pair for their offense. -
Eagles trade pick 6 to Dolphins

What did I say that was wrong? That's a list of good tight ends, taken outside the first. Maybe Hockenson will be the best tight end in the league, but through 2 years he did not boost their offense from the bottom 3rd in the league. Same with fant, Ebron, Hurst etc. The 30th pick is the 3rd to last 1st round pick. It has a massively different value than pick 4 or 5. That is not arguable. Anyway, I'm ignoring you so don't bother responding. -

If you believe in chase/smith at a tier above the rest - you go back up to guarantee one. -
I wasn't a big fan of the 1st round picks he made in 2020. Didn't love Tua, jackson or Igbinoghene. Tunsil and minkah for jackson and Igbinoghene (they do obviously have the other pick from the tunsil trade which is more valuable than both). But those are major downgrades at important positions. But he also has made some smart moves - did the tear down post tannehill. Found some good foundational pieces, and maximized trade value for players. But 2 of the probably best 3 players he drafted, he traded. Absolutely - maximized the value of the pick and still very likely get a player right at the top of their board.

In the past i always preached higher ceiling BPA because the team lacked stars. Now the team has several in Allen, Diggs, Tre. Now a lower floor player who can contribute in 2021 is also in the cards. I think a big nickel player is something to look at in rounds 2-3. I'd think the same at CB opposite tre, or offensive line. I'm not super sold on a running back in the first, but its one of those see how it falls situations. If there isn't a player you love in the first, try and move back.
