  1. Atkins was injured all year - but 2 years ago he had 10 sacks. He's also traditionally had good tackle numbers. And he played in 16 games in 6 consecutive years before this one (not injury prone). I don't know the extent of the shoulder injury or anything, but i doubt his explosiveness was sapped in 1 season. This would have to be dependent on his price. Suh got 1yr 8 million with escalators, after 1yr 9.25 and only 2 sacks. In this lowered cap season - Jefferson and butler wouldn't get the 7-8mil per year that they got... so i guess it depends the direction they want to go with the position. I think Atkins will get scooped up rather early by a team who wants a vet on the line but thats just me. Part of me thinks he would be a great player to split snaps with oliver, but it would come down to price.
  2. I think what shocked me the most - phillip gaines... who the terrible 2018 bills cut mid-season. Was signed in 2019 by Houston... and brought back in 2020. The guy was either a gaping hole or a penalty. No wonder their defense was so terrible.
  3. Short field off a penalty, Croom fumble TD, then peterman pick, then peterman pick 6, then a cohen punt return to the like 10. Just like that - down 28-0. Phillip gaines had like 100 yards of DPI penalties too.
  4. Even weirder - the game chicago scored 41 points - Chicago had 11 first downs, 190 yards, and a turnover. Buffalo was 1-2 in games where the opponent had fewer than 200 yards, also losing to Miami 21-17 (charles clay drop in the end zone). In that one, mckenzie muffed a punt that resulted in 7 and buffalo had 130 yards in penalties. Both TD drives were assisted by penalties.
  5. Yeah, could end up somewhere like miami (no watson), houston (no watson), indy (assuming they miss on other QBs). Then theres a bunch of other teams who just dont have QBs at all like NO, Washington, etc.
  6. Alex Smith. Culpepper. Brees was available at one time. Cassel. Cutler. Palmer. Foles. Bradford. Jimmy g. Tannehill. I didn't think anyone would give up 2 1sts for Stafford either. Honestly he'd be a good fit with New Orleans. But they arent trading picks - they're so cap screwed they need their picks.
  7. Eh. 4 years, didn't pick up a 5th year option and no extension. He's basically blaine gabbert/blake bortles now. Sure he's younger, but the word is out. Having said that, I'd probably be OK with bringing him in as a backup.
  8. Right - but thats not until april. It's easy to threaten to sit out stuff 2 months out.
  9. I mean... its not really tyrod's fault that he got his lung punctured by the chargers doctors.
  10. I'd ask Nick Wright - would you trade your wife for a hot women you didn't know? It's a threat. I'm not sure when anything occurs that he'd actually get fined for, but there's plenty of time til then.
  11. No. Thats way too much for a LB who would still cost about 10M per year (and isn't a pro bowler or all-pro). Atlanta gets no cap savings trading him this year either.
  12. Easy to do in a dome - now try that in buffalo in january. Russel Wilson had like 30 TDs at the midway point this year and a lot of them were like that. Then weather turns a bit and it becomes more challenging to chuck the ball 40 yards accurately without a bit of heat behind the ball. I'd like to see him continue to develop his fakes. He's shown the shoulder fake, and some head fakes - but thats what makes mahomes so dirty against zone. He whooped edmunds on fakes in the middle and there's nothing you can do - if he can buy time and manipulate the LBs and safeties he's basically unstoppable. He's massively improved on pre-snap reads and adjustments, but there's still work to be done there as well.
  13. You don't save any money then. The replacement costs 600k. I mean... the oline was bad at run blocking. I don't think moss and singletary did enough with the openings that were there either - but i wouldnt give a pass to the oline either. Spain switched sides and sucked, then got cut and Winters sucked. Ford switched positions again, then got hurt. Boettger was meh. Feliciano and morse don't impress me either. Essentially the entire interior of the line was a mess.
  14. He's a good, even great player at times. But with Allens extension looming - and UFAs all over the offensive line (a unit that needs upgrading), it may just be poor timing. The reduced cap will hit free agents hard, but if hes considered a difference maker by a team - he will still command in the 12-15 per year range. 15M would put him as the 3rd highest AAV hit among ILBs.
  15. If Jimmy G isn't having particularly successful seasons when healthy - in the shanahan/kubiak offense (run and heavy PA). I don't personally believe he is any good. He's pretty much 30 years old, and has 1 full season - and no true success. With the rams making the move for stafford, seattle being seattle, and arizona being solidly in that 7-10 win range - you have to figure out QB. He might be good enough to get it done, but he might be bad enough to finish 4th.
  16. Always liked burkhead for this (they used sammy morris and others in a similar role). Guy plays special teams, and is an adequate running back. The idea is - oh todays a day where i can use moss power, or singletary shiftiness, or XXX speed. One guys the primary 3rd down guy, but if they're rolling with extra DBs - you hammer them with power etc.
  17. He had some issues with that kind of thing in denver. I respect him for A - beating mccloud for the job (both had really good really solid 2019 camps), and B - carving out a role even after they signed roberts, drafted davis and hodgins etc. Go get that paycheck.
  18. Fullbacks have always been a different breed though. They also deliver a considerable amount of punishment - which they take some pride in. They're football guys.
  19. I think there's still a role there for some teams. It definitely was lacking for buffalo in those 3rd and 2's.
  20. Hard work got him over 10 million dollars in earnings over his career. Thats enough to settle down where you want and do a job you love for the rest of your life.
  21. I suspect a fair amount of this. Do you take a paycut for a guarantee in 2022 instead of being released? Example - base salary if 10m and you have a 2.5M bonus that was already paid so your cap is 12.5, and your dead is 2.5. If you hit the market, you won't get 10 - you may get something like say 5. There's also possibly a limited amount of interest from teams, if you are cut after the initial frenzy you may only have a couple of interested teams. You negotiate to lower your cap hit to 2.5 base salary in 2021 and maybe convert some money to 2022 base salary. Throw in a roster bonus for 2022, maybe some performance escalators, guarantee some base salary for 2022. The idea being... i don't want to take a paycut, get hurt, and tank my value beyond 2021 - a cheaper extension gives you a bit more security.
  22. I think getting a bit more creative with motions and formations could've helped them find some more space in man coverage. Bunch formations with mesh concepts will eat in man coverage. Max protect and the deep overs were where they gashed man coverage all year too. I agree on the blitzes though. Big sacks and the grounding came on blitzes where we left someone unblocked and allen didn't get the ball out or escape. Need to be able to run the ball, screens behind those blitzes too. We tried doing those WR screens but its tough in press coverage.
  23. Reid coached QBs for 2 seasons. And worked under Holmgren, with a HOF QB.
