Tua? LOL. Really!!?? Herbert I'll give you, but he gave a lot of teams a tough time. But Tua, yeah credibility went out the window there lol

you misunderstood me. I was just saying those were the only 2 rookies we played last year and we "did ok". Which was a coy way of saying Im not worried about rookies.

  2. Seems like most people are forgetting that Watson requested a trade BEFORE any of the sexual allegations came out against him. People thought that they only came to light because he was trying to force his way out.

So...even if none of the allegations came out he still would not want to play for them. So this probably isnt just Houston deciding not to play him, its Deshaun deciding that he still doesnt want to play for the Texans.

They are at am impasse: He wont play, they cant trade him.

  3. I would disagree that the largest gap is at QB. Allen was very close to Mahomes statistically last year and while I think Mahomes is better there are other positions with larger gaps. Particularly at TE. I think Kelce allows them to exploit defensive matchups that we cant because of his versatility. Beyond that their defensive line was much better than ours.

Im not sure if you swap Mahomes and Allen last season the result of the AFC Champ would be different.

I know Doc, 9 of those 17 years we had at least 7 wins.  It was maddening.  50, I promise I’ll never say *******.  The mods need to put on the no go list. 🏈🤪😂😇🏋️♀️.  Just kidding bud.

I had endless discussions with friends that misremember the details of the Bills drought. We were a losing team in totality but year-in, year-out we were never in discussion of the worst team in the league save for 2010. And until 2009 we felt a few steps away from the playoffs. 09-14 the wheels fell off a bit but even still 6 wins isnt god awful. Its just have 6 wins so many years in a row.

  5. Beane hasnt been overcommited either way to RAS score. Historically he will take guys all over, but this draft was different. Just for reference, some notables:

    Josh Allen: 9.67

    Singletary: 1.72

    Knox: 9.25

    VoSean: 0.22

    Zach Moss: 2.88

Zay Jones: 9.71 (not Beane I realize, just thought it was funny)

    Ed Oliver: 9.87

    Ford: 6.33

    Taron Johnson: 6.29

    Epenesa: 4.07

This draft though, everyone was over 7 I believe except for our 7th rd WR.

I'm guessing the original comment was made because it was a stupid pick for the Bills, not necessarily a stupid pick in a vacuum.  The Bills had all sorts of needs, didn't really need an RB and made what was in essence a luxury pick that a team coming off a Super Bowl victory might make.  For example, Dallas Clark was available when McGahee was picked.  Not a great blocker but he would have gone down as best TE in Bills' history.

Well this thread is about a player getting drafted after a major injury...so forgive me for assuming they were referencing McGahee's knee injury since they also mentioned another player we drafted that had injury history. But perhaps they meant something else.

    meh,

allen had poorer coaching and way less experience than 90+% of first round qbs.  he also has much much more talent, and there are and were very clear patterns to his bad throws, got excited and his feet got wonky.

some of these goofs don't see the forest for the trees.  a guy like alex smith, great at some many things, but when he is in perf form the ball just doesn't quite get to exactly where he wants it with pop, can't improve upon his polished self, but a more raw guy can.

it's kinda goofy to me how a more raw pass rusher or OL (jason peters anyone?) can bee seen as a player who can work on his craft and get much better, but somehow that analysis can't be done on a QB.

I think about this as well. Because Allen wasnt given much of an opportunity, Buffalo was the first time he ever had *real* coaching. No disrespect to Wyoming but theyre not Oklahoma, USC, Alabama, OSU, etc. And before that was JuCo for him. In that respect it does make sense that he hadnt even began to scratch his potential in college. But of course that doesnt then mean that every QB from a less prominent school will magically flourish in the NFL. I do think Allen is an outlier there.

Lots of GMs and coaches have the "I can develop him" ego and it only takes one to convince themself about a certain player to draft them. We will likely see a few swings and misses while teams search for "their Josh Allen" until its figured out how rare Josh exactly is.

Also, if you click on the video linked at the top of the article it highlights a really bad throw on an easy target but if you backup 5 seconds you see a laser thrown on the run perfectly placed, and mind you Wyoming is up 42-0 haha.

  9. I hope it doesnt come to it, but I could see it happening. You could maintain the salary cap and have some structured allotment of money, that increases for the worse teams, that each team has to spend on incoming players and then every player coming out of college is a FA. That way the worst teams would have the most money to sign guys. It would be different though for sure.

I like Fairburn's Bills articles on the Athletic. They have the depth of someone who actually watches the Bills closely not just parroting what others are saying.

I recalled that someone asked this same question about investing in locking up Edmunds a while back in his "mailbag" and thought his response mirrors much of what has been said in our own dialogue on this topic.

"Right now, I don’t think I would. Of course, the Bills have another year to decide on that. A lot of this will come down to what Edmunds and his agents want that second contract to look like.

I don’t think he’s played well enough to warrant a market-setting contract at linebacker.

He’s not a consistent game changer in that way, at least not yet. He could become that type of player, but it’s not what we’ve seen so far.

If Edmunds looked like he did in the Ravens game more often, it would be an easy choice to sign him to a second contract. But these negotiations could get complicated when you consider that Edmunds’ potential hasn’t matched up with the reality on the field quite often enough.

That’s not to say it can’t happen, but you asked me to make the decision today. I’d spend the money elsewhere."

So we are back to where Beane probably is sitting... a key year to evaluate Edmunds and determine if he wants to lock him up long term and if so, for how much?

But why couldnt Edmunds sign a contract that matches his production on the field. If he wants a market-setting contract, its an easy NO. If he wants a reasonable contract given his good-not-great play thats a different story.

It seems the discussion on Edmunds is whether hes worth a BIG contract but why is it assumed we, or someone else, would ever give him such a contract?

It would be nice if the Pegula's can get NFL to hold draft in Buffalo,  would be great and a huge boost to hotels & restaurants all the way to Niagara Falls. Weather is nice this time of year and if Cleveland is good enough then why not Buffalo/Niagara Falls? I am sure plenty of rookies would love to see one of the seven wonders of the world and NEW YORK STATE should kick in money to boost tourism.

Probably would use this as leverage to get a new Stadium. If we build a brand new downtown stadium I could see the draft coming potentially.

  12. Yes I am going with my family. We are all vaccinated, besides the kids, but its not required to just go to the event. Its only required to get into the arena and have a seat to watch the draft which i=Im not interested in. We have a hotel right downtown. There is going to be a large open air Draft Experience with food/drinks/games what not and youll be able to see the screen where the draft is happening and kinda mill about. Inside the stadium will be some games ad things like kicking a FG, running a 40 yd dash etc. This requires a reservation which is free and each reservation can be for 2 adults and up to 5 children. Download the NFL OnePass app to reserve.

In addition the Rock and Roll HOF is right there and I may head down to the HOF. Either way I veiw it as an excuse to get out of the city after being hesitant to travel for so long.

The Bills defensive scheme relies upon "zone eyes" - the defenders make decisions by reading the QB's eyes.

Mahomes is the master of "Lying Eyes".  He will manipulate the defenders into making decisions based upon his eyes, then throw where they aren't.

Mahomes abused Edmunds, it was ugly. He over-pursued many times.

My pet peeve:  Draft position is irrelevant once you hit the field.   Where Edmunds was drafted has nothing to do with whether the Bills keep him.   It's all about how he contributes to the team, how he fits the defense, whether he can be replaced, etc.  Kyle Williams didn't start because he was outplaying a 5th round pick, and Aaron Maybin didn't get cut because he underplayed a #9 overall.  You play or don't play if you're good enough or not, regardless of where you're drafted.

Edmunds future has nothing to do with where he was picked.

I continue to think that we don't completely understand how McDermott values Edmunds in the defense.  I suspect, but I don't know, that Edmunds' mobility in pass defense is worth a lot more to McD than it is to the rest of us.   I think McD expects Edmunds to continue to learn the things that he needs to learn.   It's the old adage about you can't teach speed.   Or height.  There just aren't a whole of MLBs out there who combine Edmunds' size and speed, and that is, I think, worth a lot to McD.

overall I agree except that because he was a first rounder there is a slight difference because you need to decide on the 5th year option. They need to decide this offseason if they pick that up or not. Its a pretty big decision.

I don't really know what to do with Edmunds. There is reason to trade him and possibly draft his replacement. Maybe a trade up with him and 30 as the piece.

There's reason to sign him, mostly based on potential due to age.

Edmunds isn't very instinctive. You would like your MLB to be the most instinctive player on the field. He's due big money over the next couple of years. Do you commit to a 5th year or try and replace him this year?

His size and length for the position is elite. Even if out of position he takes up so much space. He's only turning 23. He's shown flashes of high level play. Consistency has been his issue but can be fixed.

We're going to find out how the Bills feel about Edmunds in the next few weeks.

I'de be shocked also. Edmunds is their guy. He has elite talent and size. The hope is his mental catches up to the physical.

Unless Edmunds has a Josh Allen level leap in ability I dont think they will retain him. He is a fine player but not great. All the excuses from Cover1 and Nate Geary...why are we making excuses for a guy that is drafted that high and is a supposed athletic freak. Hes a good player but hes not all-pro great like some wanted. He is serviceable but not someone you can depend on all the time. Just look at this past season. if the scheme doesnt perfectly fit him or Milano gos down he disappears. Why would you want that guy as your defensive anchor. He should transcend scheme and injuries more often than not.

I think if he was a slam dunk to be our long term MLB we would not have signed Milano. I dont think Beane would wrap that much long term money into the LB position. So Milano getting the extension is a bit of a signal that he is ok letting Edmunds go, IMO.

There’s no doubt he’s incredible, no doubt. From what I’ve seen the kid is downright amazing but in order for a trade up to be worth it, he would have to be the best TE in the NFL. Seems like a pretty slim margin to be banking on. Even if he is a 60, 70 catch guy he would be a huge disappointment in relation to the amount of capital spent to move up and get him.

I do too. Too steep. Very nice prospect though but once again, he has to be the best TE in the NFL for it to be worth it. Even if he’s just “good”, that’s not good enough. He needs to be the Michael Jordan of TEs.

For the trade to be worth it he doesnt have to be the best TE in the league, he just has to contribute to us winning a SB. I think he can do that.
