If you guys are intimating that JA didn't improve a ton too, you're crazy imho. JA clearly got better every year. It was all three, JA himself, his weapons and his line, allthewhile Daboll got to expand his offense with his coaches (who were mainly new) and players and getting better in so many ways over time. It was all exponential. It still is now with Sanders, Gabriel entering year two, we hopefully fix the LG position and develop the run game a lot more this year. Zach Ertz will be a huge add and allow our offense to compete with any in the league. The defense on the other hand should be good but unlikely great which is what we probably need to beat the chiefs or Bucs. Can Groot, Boogie And AJ bring electricity to the defense? Can Tremaine Edmunds take a big step? Will the LCB position hold up? A lot of teams are going to try and beat us this year by running the ball down our throat and controlling the clock, can we play great run D? I think those four questions are real and the answers will probably determine our season. Will it be very good (I say we sweep the East again) or great (can we win it all?) I'll tell you, Tampa and KC are loaded and the class of the league. I think theBills lie at #3 but we are a clear notch below the top two right now. the four questions: 1 maybe a bit looking promising for '22, 2 I sadly doubt it. 3 Probably up and down there all year but hopefully up for the playoffs. Like last year. 4 If we lose an AFC game, it will be because NE controls the clock against us with our D unable to get off the field.

Boy, do I disagree with this. The NFC West stands alone by a mile as the NFL's most competitive division. While the fish and pats have greatly improved they will still lose to Buffalo in sweeps. I figure one close game and one blow-out each. The Jets are the laughing stocks of the NFL now. Josh Allen s simply king of the AFC East. San Fran, LA and Az. Went to great lengths this year to be king's of their division. Seattle has a future HOF QB still in his prime at the bottom of the division. That is nuts.

Surprise camp cut??? Feliciano? I could see him losing his starting job as a surprise prediction, but he is a team leader, the starting RG as of last season AND the number one back up center, there is just no way he gets cut, imho..... I-will admit he is not the most coordinated OL around though.... It sez here he keeps his starting job because he is not bad and has a ton panache....

Expanding on the importance of Oliver, Epenesa, Groot and Boogie becoming very good football players it probably will come to this whether we win a Super Bowl or two or not. Josh Allen is Without a doubt the real deal as long as he has good protection and very good weapons and I think Beane will see to that, so I think we have theoffense down. But offense alone seldom gets you a Super Bowl. Everyone here raves about Mahomes but it was the KC D that won that SB for them, no doubt about it, so we too, probably need a much better D than we had Last year. Good defenses always have good linemen, much better than we had last season. It's up to those four young bucks to see to it that we get there. For myself I don't think we get there this year but you never know. Had Groot played last season and repeated what he did the season before he would have been a top ten pick. Likewise, I saw Basham mocked to us at 30, and he now feels he was ripped-off and disrespected. That's great for us and gives me hope. (But not even Bruce Smith had an impactful rookie year.) I like that Bruce came out publicly to support the pick of Groot. It takes a great DE to know a great DE is my thinking.... I liked Groot's film more than most as well. He is going use every inch of that massive frame to play longer than most and surprise many QBs by catching them I hope.

I think this is the year for Ed Oliver
billybrew1 replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I find it very difficult to ascertain what exactly he is supposed to do on any given play. God knows it can't be trying to make the tackle. I have never seen him hold a double team either. Not saying he didn't, but I never saw it. I like to think I watch closely but I don't watch like I used to (I use to watch the game in slow-mo and really break it down. I think it may be the only way to really know.) His stats are terrible and he is often the last one to react after the snap. This is weird because he moved very fast at the snap in college. I think we play a weird defense that was never successful in Buffalo before so it is hard to judge what a player is supposed to do in this D. We're used to attacking defenses and simple ball. if Anyone recalls, Kyle never rushed the passer once McD was here either, so WTF? I have also seen Tremaine not attack the ball where he was clearly frustrated that he could not (because that is what he is coached to do, keep the ball in front of him.) -
Efe Obada “true sack score” ranked 9th in league

Yes, of course it was Injuries but Smoke was old and frail, Beasley is tiny, Diggs is small, etc. so what do you do to combat that? Get more receivers. You just don't hope it doesn't happen again. I wanted Sanders, Ertz AND another drafted WR.I guess I have to settle for Hodgins and Stevenson; two low-round guys, one a rookie, the other, still wearing a red no contact jersey. I'm not holding my breath.....Maybe Stevenson shocks us around November, he has a decent size/speed ratio I think. (Very fast and not tiny.) Hodgins has the great length and leaping ability, maybe he can do something when (not if) we run into injury problems.... Diggs - Sanders - Beasley - Davis - McKenzie.... I gotta admit that's an impressive top five but I think Davis and McKenzie thrive because of the top two or three drawing so much attention and Daboll's being a fantastic OC. This top three can readily beat man to man. Davis might end up being another guy.....sometimes he runs that post and seems to beat man, other times he looks helpless trying to beat man. Simply not so with Diggs and Sanders. I think Beasley is less valuable because he can only play the slot but he is unwatchable in man from the slot t. I don't know why we don throw more to him probably because he is just do small. I've seen him doubled though. One player takes short inside, the other long outside. He can't beat that but at least takes up two defenders. -
I like it. Truthful but very hopeful and promising. Going on last season, I'd have to include Daryl Williams as well, his pass blocking was superb. I also might have to find a place for the boat-rocking Beasmeister as well (again, going on last year.) Also, I would have included future-Bill Zach Ertz. Lastly and somewhat unfortunately, you'd have to include the cookie, Milano, our two LBs play best together as a team (maybe he gets hurt too much?) I'd also lower Edmunds/Milano as you always wish they were better. Crap! I should just make my own.... 1. Allen (by a country mile.) 2. Diggs. (He's the real deal,) 3. Dawkins. (He can do it all.) 4. T. White (Needs to stop guessing wrong. He costs us some TDs last year.) 5. Morse/D. Williams (tie) ((Morse is very underrated in Buffalo just like E. Wood. Daryl is extraordinary at pass blocking.) 6. E. Sanders (for 2021!) ( I always admired him.) 7. Z. Ertz (him too.) 8. Milano/Edmunds/Hyde/Poyer (LOL, the heart of our D, Poyer probably a notch above the other three but it's close.) 9. Epenesa/Groot/Boogie (yes, I stole this idea but it just has to be if the Bills are going to be great. They are our future.) 10. Ed (I guess, see above.) This was fun, thanks!

Efe Obada “true sack score” ranked 9th in league

Not me, I wanted to draft another WR in the second round this year. We had no receivers in the playoffs last year and we simply can not afford to lose any. Cole Beasley really is one of the top slot WRs in the game and we cannot simply absorb him even if we sign Ertz. (We'd be damn good but we couldn't beat KC or Tampa without everybody and everyone healthy and the whole point is to win a Super Bowl.) PS - Beasley is soooo good I might have misspoke saying we have to replace him. Right now, it is probably impossible to replace him. Whoever we did end up getting most likely would be a downgrade. I'm not a fan of Beasley's stance at all but I have to admit, if he is in single, he can just about beat anyone for that five to ten yard gain. Plus he is far from just limited to that. He is very good football player and Allen and him got it down. -

NE is going to play us with a double TE and run the ball down our throat. I can't imagine the Bills carrying less than four true DTs.....The last time Star started he played < 40 snaps/game. In fact, the Bills need an upgrade at DT imho... Also LCB and TE. And if Cole chooses to die on that bitter hill, he has to be replaced (not absorbed) imho.... -
What do you expect from our 3rd year players?
billybrew1 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was thinking about this a little further and remembering how great the DT class was supposed to be that year and looking now we aren't the only ones to draft a DT that fell below his draft status so far. Neither are the jets or Miami thrilled with their DTs; so we are not alone anyways..... What can you do? It's not like we drafted the only dud here and Oliver isn't a bust at least.... -
What do you expect from our 3rd year players?
billybrew1 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is NOT the draft McBeane wants us to look at to see how they are doing. In fact, the only good draft McBeane ever had was in 2017 and yes, I think Beane pulled the strings here, but all the other drafts were weak aside from selecting Mr. Everything, Josh Allen. If the Bills continued to draft as well as they did in 2017, we'd have won a Super Bowl by now and be favorites for this one. Instead we are a second nd class team behind KC and Tampa. Where Beane has won is Free Agency netting players like Hyde and Poyer, Sanders (Brown) and Beasley, Daryl Williams, Our center,Morse and LG, Feliciano .... We are weak at TE, DT, and LCB and the DE room is a mess with too much money and not enough production. While Edmunds is a good MLB he is far from a great one and wasn't worth the trade-up. Make no mistake, the Bills are a very good team, we can beat anyone not named Tampa and KC, but that line between us and the very top is very real. It is questionable as to why McBeane chose not to try to match up with those two clubs. Will we ever have a better chance? (The reason we couldn't try is probably because we wasted so much money along the DL and drafted iffy at best (not counting 2017). -
La Canfora sure likes Tremaine
billybrew1 replied to TailgateChef's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've always been on the fence with Tremaine. He definitely lacks instinct and drive and can't beat a blocker to save his life but on the other hand he plays every down and his size is extremely visible and clearly very useful in our D. You just wish he jumped routes, made tackles at or behind the LOS, beat a block, all the things probowlers do every game. Could he make that big jump? Theoretically, he could because he has the physical attributes needed to be a pro bowler but he has seldom shown the knowledge or the dog needed to be a great one, so probably not. Perhaps one thing in his favor is that his front four should be better this year.... the problem is that the DL will only be a little better probably.... He should rise that little bit the DL does though.... One last thing I'd mention about Tremaine is that we do not play standard defense like we are used to. Tremaine is sometimes seen jumping up and down excited to make a play but holds his ground at the LB position because he is he coached to do that. Leslie wants everything in front of the D.... I miss Wade. -
I agree with everything you say but I think the Bills are the clear #2 team with Josh Allen and our whole offense leading this team. I think if the offense is healthy (which it wasn't last playoffs) none of those other teams stop ouroffense, maybe even KC can't stop us healthy. If Allen has his weapons, it turns into a shootout with KC. I definitely think Allen is a rare super talent. (I think every QB ever born needs to work with a lot of talent to be effective. )

I think JP Losman might have made it if he went to a team built to win. IDK, I badly wanted the Bills to trade up and get Rothlesburger and of course, we didn't..... But JP seemed like a winner to me.... Donahoe might have been the worst GM ever here in Buffalo letting go of Winfield and Pat Williams in favor of a broke-down Lawyer Milloy.... IDK, maybe he drafted a lousy QB too? We'll never know.....

Bleacher report ranks the supporting cast for each QB
billybrew1 replied to BruceVilanch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills entire O is going to work to improve the run game to achieve more balance and they are going to succeed, imho. They are doing this to lessen the wear and tear inflicted on our WRs. While I still Billieve the Bills are going to sign Ertz, I think Knox, Hollister and Sweeney will be better than what we saw at TE last season. With Ertz it's going to be night and day. PS - While deep speed is always preferred it is far from necessary. Just break out the TT film. We are going to be good at RB this season, imho. I hope whoever wins the LG job is a step above play there last year. I think our line could gel a little more as well. Maybe run some of Singletary's favorite run plays as well. It's Singletary that I think plays well for us this fall although our duo may be a trio this fall with either Brenda or Williams sharing the load. So, more practice at running, better play design, better execution by the O-line, going from a duo to a trio with all three fighting for carries is going to do the trick. PSS - I wonder if Daboll wanted Brenda to run particular plays for us? Go Bills! -

And.... Hyde talking on Poyer..... While I, of course, always found Poyer to be a good football player if someone asked me what is special about Poyer I'd have to say his ability to stick his nose in the high danger areas and to usually come out walking. So many times he takes on players quite a bit bigger and he rarely gets hurt and if on rare occasion he does, he's back in a week. Amazing! Go Bills! -

Came here to say, if Tremaine Edmunds wins the AFC DPOY the Bills just about have to win the Super Bowl, imho anyway. That would be a remarkable change for our D imho....I mean, the whole D would have to be better plus Edmunds would have to really take a huge step up, imho.... I like that someone is talking about it though.... If our D kind of resembled Carolina's when they were good and our stayed healthy I don't think anyone stands a chance against us. As we all know, last playoffs, all our WRs were hobbled and our run game wasn't clicking and our defense was only so-so aside from the Ravens game. If we're healthy and play defense a clear notch better the trophy is ours. Allen will destroy and build insurmountable leads. -
Whaley's actions demonstrate he was in love with EJ.... having said that, I think his biggest frailty was that he did not lead his team by example. I don't know who picked his coaches, but I don't think they did much better.... Aside from QB, we had a lot of talent at times though.... He'd probably be a pretty good scout.

NOT TRIPS FOR BUFFALO.....N/A This year especially, while Diggs is the clear #1, and Allen is the captain and keystone player, after that it's a fSIX pronged attack. Allen, Diggs, SANDERS, BEASLEY, DAVIS, SINGLETARY AND KNOX. Then, Moss is half of our RB attack and McKenzie (with seven TDs) is one hell of a fifth option at WR... Our line is pretty damn good and it's easy to be proud of those guys. I just love our offense right now even if it doesn't quite fit the trips analogy. I just hope we get Ertz to throw out n there too! Sort of replacing Knox but Knox would then be an impressive second TE And Ertz would be another primary weapon really taking a lot of targets.

Give me and the fine city of Buffalo a Super Bowl trophy, let's get the Lombardi and then go from there. Sure, you have to think about the future but you have a team to win a Super Bowl. You don't think how can our team stay competitive. If that's the plan, the odds of winning a Super Bowl are slim. If Ertz can still play you sign him. He is another primo weapon for Allen and we need them to win a Super Zbowl. And BTW, the more dangerous weapons you have, the more you can spread the wear and tear over an arduous ~ 20 game season. And BTW, I expect more touches for our running backs to remove some wear & tear from our WRs. I say this because it is very important we hit the second season with our weapons healthy (not like last year.)
-
I think Josh absolutely takes another big step IF the guys around him play better. John Brown being injured most of last year (all of it?) really hurt Josh's ceiling throughout the season. By the playoffs every receiver was truly beat-up to the point of seriously hindered ability. With the top four healthy, we should absolutely destroy opponents. Having said that, I'm really concerned with how he can play vs. the Stealers and Washington. Last time we played the Stealers the defense really impressed me and they did this without their starting LBs. I can't imagine what they look like when healthy. The Washington Defense is on par with the Stealers. If those defenses are healthy when we play them, I can't imagine any offense having an easy time of it. Having just said that, I still think we beat both teams and think Allen finds a way to score.... They both should be outstanding games to watch. Maybe our defense comes to the aid f our offense or perhaps our special teams? Give us some nice fieldposition and the defense cracks. I think with all four receivers healthÿ and the line grooving, Josh hits that new level. Maybe what Josh does this year is crush great defenses? With our four WRs, with a new focus on the run game, I could see it....
