Daboll and Frazier....have they run their course here?!?
billybrew1 replied to Sweats's topic in The Stadium Wall
I still think fans blame the coaches when it's more of an execution problem.....most of the time....anyways -
Maybe? Maybe? Maybe McBeane has seen enough of our approach and now knows that you need impact players on the defense to combat players like Josh Allen and Mahomes? Maybe there will be someone out there that can help us in this regard and that someone really wants a Super Bowl? Maybe McBeane drops its mantra of staying competitive and adopts a Super Bowl or bust ideology? That could be what has to happen for the Bills to take the next step. Teams with much less QBs have gone peddle to the metal and it is time we joined them. I think we need to buy a pass rusher. I think we need to change our defensive philosophy somewhat. (Even though it was more poor execution than playing style that ruined the Bills chances. I think a better, nastier pass rush is needed. I think our #1 pick pick should also be a pass rusher if one is there that is worth it. (We need to go BPA somewhat at positions, DE, DT, WR, CB and TE.) We need to come away with a blue chipper most of all. That is what we lack; blue chippers. Moreso on defense though.....

Defenses still win Super Bowls. The Bucs defense rag-dolled the chefs O last year and ZkC's defense won the Super Bowl for KC the year before. I don't know why fans try to peddle this BS all the time. Go back to all the Super Bowl winners and you'll find a very good defense. The truth of the matter is you need balance. Balance is what wins Super Bowls. That's why the Bills lost to the chefs, not a good enough defense that completely choked in executing. The Bills D leaders are two safeties which is fine but we need more leaders. We need players in the front seven. Everybody in the front seven (but maybe Ed Oliver) choked in that game vs. the chefs. Oliver made a couple plays but we need more than one guy or perhaps someone better than Oliver.

No way, the rams are loaded with talent. They just need Stafford to bring his A game and they got it. Their roster is fairly similar to KCs. But the rams have better pass rushers, a better OL, a better RB, similar receivers, and an iffy QB. But the rams can protect him and Stafford just has to distribute. man, I wish the Bills had Aaron Donald and Avon Miller..... and an aggressive coach who would send them to crush the QB.... I say the rams are KC's equal.

We already have Urlacher's LB coach. He coached several great LBs in his time in Chicago....
-
When you think about it, it wasn't the defense called,it was a total lack of execution. There was never a defense designed where you let the opponents best player run whilly-nilly down the field.

Just a feeling? Nothing more?

They love Josh Allen here in California as well. Probably one of the most popular players in the whole NFL now. I bet top five for sure. And Buffalo has a lot more going for it than The Bills. A hell of a lot more including plentiful water and clean air, two things lacking where I live here in Rancho Cucamonga. And if you live in Buffalo (or anywhere) you've got to make a practice of being thankful with what you have. Buffalo is on the only warm Great Lake besides. It is great for swimming and catching the tastiest fish, the walleye. Buffalo has an awesome history, I think the common council or somebody ought to do more to make Buffalo's architecture more easily known about and accessible, it's gorgeous. Affordable education and housing are two more huge pluses. The Sabres will be watchable (on most nights) starting next year, imho....If not, the following year. IDK, we havta see how aggressive KA is in making the Sabres competitive now. Is it reasonable? Or is it better if we wait one more year. The offseason will be telling. I could go on and on about Buffalo, it is a great city with a football team. Every city has bad weather at times. Even San Diego now with global warming. Everything is being built with air now because the city needs it in the summer. Thirty years ago that wasn't the case. SD is also comically expensive.... Lets Go Buffalo!

I really don't know how much money individuals are willing to pass up to have a shot at the SB? I guess we'd win most ties now (if the money was equal). The Bills will be lucky to stay together. This, even though we need a premium pass rusher desperately. In fact, you could make a good argument that we need two..... That's what makes the rams so difficult now, having two primo pass rushers. Man, we had better hope Beane knows how to evaluate DL..... Our premium pick DL.... Two firsts, two seconds, and a third.... Ed Oliver, Greg Rousseau, Epenesa, Basham and Harrison, that's our DL right there. How much better can Groot, Boogie and AJ get now that they get a nice long rest before embarking on changing their bodies for the better and working on pass rushing moves individually and together. Work, work, work! I sure hope those three have the desire to be great. Maybe Bruce Smith can help? I think the city of Buffalo would go absolutely bonkers if TheBills could even swing one elite pass rush specialist. Probably would go nuts with a series of moves designed to be more aggressive on defense.... Do the Bills hit the DL yet again with their first round pick? I feel like if a DL drops, he is ours for sure. Is there an injured highly rated DL coming out this year?

What are the top three worst losses in franchise history?
billybrew1 replied to VaMilBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
There are too many to choose from. We're a 1960 to present team and we only won one AFL championship (one year prior to the first Super Bowl). You can make a list.... 1. - Wide- Right 2. - Homerun throwback. 2. (tie) 13 secs. 3. - the Ronnie Harmon drop. 4. - that playoff loss to San Diego (Chuck Knox) 5. - Ten plus years of mostly losing to the pats. 5. - Ten plus years of losing to the fish. (Tie). 7-9 the other three Super Bowls. For some reason I don't have those that high, IDK? We shoooda beat Dallas that second time. I'm still mad at Marv levy for never getting a true ginormous NT.) Or a pass rusher to complement BS..... Now during our Josh Allen days we need a Bruce Smith and so far, none have even faintly resembled him.... Maybe Groot next year? maybe Ed Oliver and Basham can learn to work together as a pair of pass rushing DTs? Groot - Boogie - Ed - Epenesa on third and long. With the job to try and send the opposing QB to the blue tent. Can our DL coach pull out the stops and get these kids ready to really dominate? Will the Pegula Family break the bank and find us a FA situational pass rusher to mix with those four? Can our LB coach pull out all the stops and get Tremaine to resemble Urlacher in some way? He coached them both. I don't know what the huge problem is? Why was Urlacher so much more effective? Could it be the defense and what we askTremaine to do? Man, I hope thePegulas and Beane can find a way to give the keys to JA so he can win us a Super Bowl! 13 sec. Really hurting right now and it is going to get even worse on Sunday. That's when the loss will hurt the worst I think. Then, and again on the Super Bowl. I hope the rams kill the chefs so I can feel like the rams would have beaten us too.... Go Rams! (I kinda like the niners (and the rams) but I feel the Rams are a much better team and more apt to beat the chefs..... -
Coaching or Drafting? - The Defensive Front
billybrew1 replied to ThurmanThomasEnglishMuffin's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think you can really say one way or the other much about Epenesa, Groot and Boogie... They have been brought along very slowly and Groot and Basham are victims of Covid. I think all three could really blossom next year. I also think Ed Oliver sort of bloomed this year. A disappointment? Maybe a bit, but he is a useful player. Look at Harrison Phillips, it took him his entire first contract to really shine as a DT. I think especially Groot could really turn it on next year, but who knows? It could be the other two ends that really succeed. Im going to look at the glass half full. We (just about every Bills fan) had this team stuck in the mud at midseason and needing dramatic improvements just about everywhere but then the team went on a six game tear. You never know. Football is a weird game. How come we never see the benefits of having nine DL? It seems to me that it should really work, that the OL should break-down after nine DL give it their absolute all..... -
Coaching or Drafting? - The Defensive Front
billybrew1 replied to ThurmanThomasEnglishMuffin's topic in The Stadium Wall
When the team in functioning the right way, to give up yards on the ground is no big deal. Our defense is set up to stop the pass. All our defensive problems stem from not being able to label QBs or play man that well. It is a lot better with Tre White and may improve as our young DL continues to mature. What could be a problem is that our defense might be inherently non-aggressive all too often. I almost wonder if McD wouldn't be happier if Leslie moved on and McD could use some of Jimmy Johnson's principles more often? We could perhaps develop a bit of meanness and toughness into our D? -
Should the Bills extend Edmunds?
billybrew1 replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wonder what you could get? We don't even have a reasonable back up for him, we never had one. I wonder how much of his lack of big plays comes from playing in the Leslie defense? Around midseason, I was joking that no one would have heard of Bruce Smith if Leslie was his coach. After watching this D for four years I really think there is some truth to it.... Our ends looked slow, lost and confused versus KC when they should have looked fast, mean and viscous.... I think this is the truth? But IDK, the last time we played KC we looked great on D, what happened? If Leslie changed the gameplan that much into a laid back approach, he should be fired. -
Mic'd up: Kelce outsmarted McDermott/Frazier
billybrew1 replied to beebe's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think the coaches said, don't watch, Kelce.... Our defense was just shot, period. As long as I watch football, I'll never understand how great players go uncovered through out NFL history but it happens again and again and unfortunately again. At least we're not the only ones..... Does misery love company! Yes. -
First things first, - I bet Beane gives Moss every chance possible. We kind of counted out Singletary around midseason and he turned out fine. Beane Billieved in his draft picks. Expect a new third RB for competition's sake but no more than that (another Breida type signing ~ money that is.) - We hold onto our current safeties (both starters and backups)and maybe draft one or two in the 6th and/or seventh round at most. - I'd love a new WR too but I bet the top pick is a lineman. Probably both top picks. though it depends on FA... - D. Williams will simply take a pay cut. - If we trade Star something is coming back, imho... Otherwise, we keep him or he retires. - The Bills have got to count on their recent draft picks on 5he DL in Harrison, Ed, Epenesa, Groot and Basham to really improve. Expect lower level adds. But expect big things from Epenesa, Groot and Boogie. Maybe Beane surprises everyone and gets a name FA on a good deal like Tribusky last year. Maybe someone that is currently disgruntled. Right now, reading what you outlined, it seems like we're going to be a lesser team this year but I think just getting TRe back makes us better. Having our three ends get an offseason and get older makes us better as well. Having nine picks really helps too.

Do we now become a “goto” destination for free agents.
billybrew1 replied to billvernsays's topic in The Stadium Wall
For wide-receivers maybe.... Maybe we can get a guy that really wants a Super Bowl, but FAs will generally go to who pays 5hem the most. Maybe we will do good with some one year deals? I expect the Bills to more or less be built by 5he draft now. We don't have much money and I don't see much money becoming available. This year could be the first year that we lose players. Players like: McKenzie, Wallace, Bates and Harrison P. We will start to get compensatory picks every year....We HAVE to the best at both drafting and developing top-shelf talent. Maybe the Bills surprise and gets a vet that really wants to come. Maybe both Josh and Stephon can recruit some talent? Dont forget, UDFAs make it all the time in the NFL and those two extra low picks this year are like gold to us, imho.... much better than a UDFA a sixth rounder can really help. Honestly, I'd feel better about drafting our talent if Epenesa, Groot and Boogie showed more raw flashes.... We ABSOLUTELY NEED those three to really rise up next season and have all three beat out their draft position. IDK? Can these defensive coaches develop some talent? -
Any of these guys an elite pass-rusher? No, seriously. I think all three young defensive ends, Epenesa, Groot and Boogie have untapped potential. We have to give them a month off and then meet the coaches, trainers, etc. to learn and get way stronger. Truth is we didn't draft Groot and Basham for this year. We drafted them for next season and on into the future. I hope all three are ready to commit to becoming great. Maybe even convert Basham to more of a another small DT that can really penetrate up the middle. This should be an offseason priority for everyone involved. Gotta really nail that draft as well, make every pick count. Go Bills!

Let's Go Buffalo! That Super Bowl is as good as our's next season! Seriously! We're as good as anyone moving on into next season. We get Tre White back and have nine solid picks in the upcoming draft. Go Bills!

It’s time to trade for an Edge Rusher
billybrew1 replied to BillMafia716ix's topic in The Stadium Wall
I didn't expect the Bills to be THAT lax. In our week five victory we played as tough as all get out, I cannot Billieve how badly we reverted. Our D looked like they were playing with zero confidence. All of this because we lost Tre white? It looked to me that our DL kept pausing as well, just playing tentative. I mean, Mahomes is great but come on? I have no idea why we didn't squib kick, I imagine it is because the chefs have crazy good speed back there, but you're right. It was like we coached to lose and not win. If we kicked it too them and they returned it wouldn't everyone say why did you kick it to that speed? I guess the thing that can help you reason all of this is that McD has shown time and again that we can learn. Maybe McD needs another chance? Not many teams are situated as well as the Bills now. We have a young super dominant QB and hopefully we keep enough weapons.(I say this as everyone seems to think we just need Diggs, Davis and McKenzie which is just ######ed. We need a plethora of weapons to get through the year.) We have a decent line. We have a decent defense. Imho, we really have to give our three young DEs a month off and then start Super offseason training of everything defensive end. I think the three can get way better. We really need to make this a priority. I think there is a ton of untapped potential there in Epenesa, Groot and Basham. We could include Ed in that too if we can afford to keep him (even though he is here regardlesss this year.) I think it is time to cut ties with some older players mainly because we can't afford them. I say keep Star probably unless he wants to retire on his own. We can't afford 5.1 mill in dead cap. I am so glad that we have some money and a very flexible cap number. I am even more happy we are set up for a strong draft. We probably continue to build our lines mostly but a really goo WR sounds tempting to me. Expect a DL #1 though....An OL #2.... Though Beane really has to find a way to make every pick count! It'll be interesting to see how the rams do against the chefs with there two ultra-premium Pass rushers. I wonder if they do any better? Anyway, cheer-up. There are 31 teams that wish they had the talent we do. -

Jones is going to the highest bidder, imho.... I bet the Bills don't even ask.... -
It’s time to trade for an Edge Rusher
billybrew1 replied to BillMafia716ix's topic in The Stadium Wall
You have to give Mahomes a lot of credit although I DL seemed to stop or pause repeatedly. The nine DL didn't seem to work at all either. I think they would do better in rematch, but that ain't going to happen until next year. I wonder how zone-blitzing a DB would have worked? I think our D needs to go back to the drawing board and consider things outside the box. Sure, a better pass rusher would have helped but maybe Groot, Epenesa and Basham mature this offseason. I think we have room to add one more DE but no money.... It's going to be an interesting offseason, but If I was to guess Beane is not to play an FA a ton of money. Even so, we are a coin flip away from going to the Super Bowl. -
Comments don't strike me as actually composed. Needs a rewrite after a few days I think.

Well, he sure played like sh** yesterday. Maybe he should hang up the cleats and move into history?
