AFC Opposition FA move you fear
billybrew1 replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’d say the only thing for he Bills and there fans is if the Bills don’t go for it this year. And by that I mean making sure the offense is as good as last year and the defense is clearly improved…. -
Not saying we couldn’t use it, but I think all the folks that want mostly offensive players are going to be heart broken come draft day… Though I do think Beane is going to keep this O about as strong as last season through signing our own our guys and getting a couple new ones…We’ll probably replace Sanders and draft some OL around 5he third round or later probably draft two…. Or, maybeIm dead wrong, we’ll see, but I see D in the top two picks (again)….

Kareem Hunt: Cut candidate. Possible 2022 Bill?

What’s your point? -
Yeah, it’s going to be very tough keeping the team together moving forward. That’s what this draft so important. Hopefully, soon we will (at least) get real compensation picks and that will help a little bit….We’ve got to hit on these drafts. Even on FAs post-draft. Lotsa work ahead for McBeane and friends.

AFC Opposition FA move you fear
billybrew1 replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
Where was Rogers in the playoffs this year? He showed absolutely nothing special the entire game and lost. Rogers is over, Josh Allen is the reigning king of the NFL now. Super Bowl or no Super Bowl but a Super Bowl is coming…. Rogers never played as well as Allen did during this end of season and the playoffs this year. Allen was spectacular in 2020 as well…. Be a Bills fan and trust your eyes…. Allen is #1! Go Bills! -
PFF ranks Milano best in pass coverage
billybrew1 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
He might be…. Where he hurts you is defending plays run at him. OL just completely wipe him out. He is more of a safety than a LB so he had better be good in coverage. And this is how our defense is set up. We want to be very strong vs. the pass. But we fail horribly on two counts. Number one, our hole defense depends on Tre White being magnificent and our safeties being smart as hell. The defense really isn’t designed to lose Tre White. Second, our hugely paid defensive line didn’t even come close to making their money. They were pretty poor. The run yards we give up are really insignificant if things if our team is functioning properly. JA should be scoring touchdowns all the time and our pass rush and coverage combined should be among the very best in the NFL. Thats why we have to draft defense again. The FA market is not good enough or too expensive plus we can keep the offense together with a lot less money. Imho, We spend on offense again maybe adding a player or two. We dedicate the top three picks in the draft to three positions…. DT, DE and CB….looking for big upgrades at least the #1 pick and the corner… -
I think we follow our MO….Sign a FA WR (probably on an affordable one year deal) Sign Bates, ask Feliciano and Williams to take pay cuts, Draft an OL in the third round (again) but the first two picks will be defense again. Hopefully, this time the Bills hit the jackpot, upgrade the defense….and win a Super Bowl.

While this news is very far from ridiculous this poster does make a point. We spend an awful lot on STs and didn’t really play dynamic STs last year. We basically were very good on coverage and made a few mistakes having no natural PR… If we are going to pay that much we should get more bang for our buck, imho…. We had no real PR or a good punter and we never execute big plays. It is something to look at… If we follow our nickels everything else should be money well spent. I particularly like Neal. He mostly looks good playing D and STs. And as others have said, he has that look like he might be able to handle a larger role…. He appears to be a Bill thru and thru as well…. I’m glad he’s here for another year but I hope the Bills are really watching that bottom line and trying to get the best deals possible (without being lowly cheapskates either.) LOL, IDK? I really like that this Bills team is truly a team that has been together through the years. As a fan, I really appreciate that. Congratulations, Siran Neal! Go Bills!

We all gotta hope Beane never does anything like that Star contract again. OMG is it ever going to end? Why n gawds name did Beane do that? LOL! He is a decent player so I don’t really mind if he stays another year as long as he is working but…..??? that d a run contract….

One UFA you'd like the Bills to sign? (realistically)
billybrew1 replied to warrior9's topic in The Stadium Wall
That’s a good question. I’m looking at it from a purely talent level situation. We need more talent and I don’t know how else to increase the talent level. Old guys aren’t gong to do it. Good young DL rarely hit the market. I guess Beane could trade for one but I have no idea why one might be traded. Good young DL are gold in the NFL. Epenesa will be hitting season three and while he is still wildly inexperienced maybe he is ready to take a step. I think the thing you don’t want is too many rookies anywhere. Second year players like Groot and Basham are miles ahead of rookies… IDK? Some think we should get Efe Obada and Zimmer to be the fourth end and Tackle in the front eight and draft a tackle to understudy as our ninth… The Bills might do exactly that, IDK? The way I look at it is those two could hardly play on last year’s line how are we going to get better? By our young current guys getting better? Perhaps but I saw the game lost vs. KC because we allowed 42 points and hardly pressured Mahomes at all. I think we still need more talent there. Though you definitely might be right as far as McBeane decides…. One thing I’d do this year that perhaps we didn’t do last year is pick 4-6 positions of need, let’s say… DE, DT, WR, CB, OL and try to get as exacting as we can at grading them and then go BPA…Beane talks a lot about filling holes before the draft so you can go BPA but somewhere along the line I think idea fell to the floor and DE turned into a must draft position. Hopefully, Beane got excellent pieces of clay anyway and they start to pay off by making some plays this year….Though, as exciting as our offense is, our defense did nothing vs. KC in the playoffs. As Bills fans, we havta think about how well we played in the week five matchup to find hope for next season vs. KC. Man, did we ever kick their ass in that game; total domination. So there’s hope…. BTW, I’d take Efe over Jerry. And Zimmer really did surprise though that would give us two injury prone three-techs. I guess we’d draft one to shore that up…. I hope that you at least understand if McBeane pulls the DL lever high again this year. We’ve got to really hit sooner or later…. Or maybe get a bunch of red chippers that can play well together in rows…. -
Me too, OJ all the way and I know he blew everything but I really watched running backs a lot and OJ was easily the best, imho. He could do everything close to what Jim Brown could do but he was much faster, had insane moves and wiggle and balance. He was quicker. There has only been one like him, imho, Bo Jackson but Bo didn’t have quickness or wiggle like OJ did. But he did have the power and speed like OJ. Probably a little more power. But make no mistake, OJ was extremely powerful for a guy known for moves, wiggle, balance, speed, etc. Favorite player was Bruce but Allen is truly on that level and they both nice guys, etc. Allen is already the closest thing we have had to Bruce. Bruce was the perfect DE. Allen is the perfect QB. Allen is going to be a bigger player because he plays 5he number one position. I still an feel the excitement everyone felt when Joe Ferguson and those Bills beat Miami to end the streak. It was truly a phenomenal experience. Everyone was so happy. They were dancing in the streets. You’d think we won a Super Bowl. I hope I last to see us win one. I’d like to be in Buffalo for that or 5he parade or something. It will be special. I didn’t give my name much thought, just to positive and get it over. I guess it’s all been beer and Bills every Sunday in the fall for forever. Ted Washington would be my third fav. I loved Shane Conlan, Jerry Butler but they couldn’t stay on the field. I despised losing Pat Williams but especially Antonio Winfield who may be my fourth fav. Player but I still remember Chuck Knox’s whole team. They were loaded and very close to a Super Bowl despite the little they are talked about. Probably it was injuries that kept that team away, maybe the QB wasn’t good enough? People don’t talk much about Jim Kelly’s missing players but we lost LOT Will Wolford to a trick contract. As I’ve said Shane Conlan who hit closest to Ray Lewis, could never stay on the field. We lost an ascending blue-chip CB to injury in Derrick Burroughs, three guys that if they stayed on the Bills field we would have definitely won at least one Super Bowl as all three were blue chip talent. And this year we might have won it all had Tre White never got injured. I love how McBeane radically changed our injury minutes overall for a team in the NFL. I think we’re the best over the last three years and that’s not luck at all. That’s very hard work, training and taking care of everything. Kudos to McBeane, they don’t get enough credit for this. I want to draft three defenders with the first four picks this year: DE, DT and CB. Get Tre White back. Really do everything possibly to get our young DL much better at everything by this fall. Well….LOL….I guess my rant is almost over…. You know though….For some reason I think I gotta be about the oldest here but not only is that wrong but there are tons of us old timers here and Buffalo Rumblings…. I sure hope we get that Lombardi trophy this year….for the old guys and the young… Go Bills! PS - maybe you should have asked for the Bills favorite non Josh Allen player? Then you’d get some variety…. Allen is just so freakin’ good and not a dork off the field… If I had to pick my second favorite player???? I dunno? White, Poyer, Hyde, Diggs, Dawkins? I really owe an apology to Singletary as I gave up on him midseason….that’s not like me…😃. Probably white or Diggs….. Diggs. My unsung hero for 2021 is Mario Addison. With Mitch Morse getting a tip of the hat. I always liked Jerry Hughes and he is the last link to the past but he is done, imho… LOL, what else do you want to know?

Get Christian McCaffery to be our #1... slot WR...???
billybrew1 replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Eh, I think it’s too much compensation for a highly injury prone player. Besides, how does this make us better on defense? I think Beane, Allen and Diggs, are going to get us a primo WR on a one year deal or some type of bargain at least to keep the offense loaded with weapons. I want those two picks. Beane has gotten Singletary, Knox and Brown with third rounders…. The offense only needs a WR, OL and RB. We get the WR in free agency. Draft the OL around the third round and another back around the fifth. Moss is by no means over with. We just need a third back for depth and competition. I actually think Moss bounces back somehow (even though he looked pretty bad last season. But so did Singletary there for awhile. Moss has got to find his game. -
One UFA you'd like the Bills to sign? (realistically)
billybrew1 replied to warrior9's topic in The Stadium Wall
I really think JA can get us first rate WR on a good deal. Maybe just for one year, but that would cross off a huge need on our shopping list. Besides, like Jerry and Mario, the FA pass rushers available are all too old. I wish it wasn’t so but they are huge gambles that probably don’t pay off. I think three of our first four picks should go to defense. We need a young DT, DE and CB to upgrade our defense. The fourth pick in the top four should be an OL. So, I’m saying drafting three linemen in the top four picks. We need to go BPA with those four positions: DT, DE, CB and OL…. We have the chosen one, now we build from the trenches. Go Bills! -
I did. Not know that Babich was a DC! ***** he would have been one of seven active or former coordinators on the Bills this year! That had to be some kind of record! Still, we have six now, maybe that is a record? yeah, hiring his son doesn’t sound like McD got rid of him. And I’ll tell you what, he looks like he is about 75. I don’t know what that all is about but he does…. Must had some hard years. Was he a player?
-
So many are picking Allen and the Bills because Allen did what was never done before in NFL history. He looks a lot like the most dominant player in the NFL. He even makes it look easy to pick him. Buffalo built an excellent offense for him. If the Bills can build a defense look out, Bills might go back to a time when one team crushed the other in the Super Bowl....
-
Man, I'll tell you what. Building a Super Bowl worthy defense, It is not going to be easy....there are no free agents that we could sign that could turn this defense around I don't think.... I could see a CB helping a lot but our story is on the line..... I think the odds of players on our team getting that much better are slim and I don't Billieve Leslie will change his defense and get a two-gapper DT....

Colts to either trade or cut Carson Wentz
billybrew1 replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well, at least now they are moving on. I think a lot of GMs would just keep the QB rather than admitting they made a big mistake... Maybe with this FA and draft the Bills can surpass the colts overall talent. I mean, the QB makes such a huge deal but Super Bowl winners tend to have pretty good teams independent of the QB position. Getting Tre White back will be huge as well.... We perhaps have the best offense in the league if we can keep it together and get some good OL depth., we just need to get that defense to kick it up a notch.... But man, did we look bad the last time we played the colts and we escaped by a hair the time before... -
Me too. I think the player gets some cash though.... I think it is insane to sort of stand Pat. We have an extremely rare player in Allen and we cannot blow this opportunity. If McBeane doesn't get a Super Bowl ring with Josh Allen, they are horrible at their jobs. You have to be dominant to win a Super Bowl. A dominant GM that goes for it. A dominant coaching staff that goes for it and dominant players that play all out. You have to grab that trophy by the scruff of its neck and take it. Allen maybe more valuable then Kelly and BS combined. That's a pretty crazy thing to say but Allen is truly unstoppable if you give the protection and weapons that he needs. Then again, I don't understand how we didn't win one with Kelly, Reed,Thomas and Bruce. And Polian only brought one of those players in.....

Keyshawn Johnson downplays Mac Jones hype: ‘He ain’t Josh Allen’
billybrew1 replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
You had Billieve he's right. No one is like Josh Allen. No one in the past or present. Josh Allen is a completely new thing in the NFL. Maybe fans dreamed of such a player but probably dimissed it from ever happening. A total QB package with the best arm in the league. Tremendous peripheral vision you have to protect the entire field, he thinks outside the box and commonly makes plays no one has ever made before. Runs like a mean FB, injuring players that dare tackle him..... LOL! -
I can't Billieve the Bills went out and got Dorsey and Allen not one but two former OCs to help out. I hope they have their tasks well defined and have a lot of work to do for all three in game planning and execution. You gotta use these bright minds or it's a waste. Kromer can run the whole show we gotta use that. The guy from LSU is rising star in this league, we gotta use all of that knowledge as well.

Bills Hire Kyle Shurmur, Son of Pat Shurmur
billybrew1 replied to JGMcD2's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know a little about this and those farmers (in central California anyway) have so much money they don't know what to do with it... They run the towns they are attached to. Incidentally, I think Josh Allen's dad is one of those farmers..... They're poor compared with Josh now though.... Me? Just lucky to be born in the states.... So, rich to most people in the world, poor compared to those in the states. Although... "To know you have enough is to be rich." - Loa Tzu -
Bills Hire Kyle Shurmur, Son of Pat Shurmur
billybrew1 replied to JGMcD2's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wow! The Bills are taking no chances. Replacing Daboll with four men. Daboll had to be one helluva OC. LOL, I assumed he was on the offense. Maybe this guy can help the D be better prepared? or at least, I'm glad to see the D do something to improve the D. It could be the Bills needed someone to do this? -
Only if we had double the picks we have.... Imho, the D needs more help than the O...but we have to be careful that we have the weapons and protection needed. That's a fact.

Dolphins Hire Wes Welker as WR coach
billybrew1 replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
And that's putting it mildly. You have to have a strong group of coaches o succeed in the NFL. I absolutely love the fact that e current Bills staff contains six former and current coordinators. I think I is huge. I wis McD could have found a highly desirable STs coordinator though this new guy might be you never know..... we have to get that defense to be much better this year. Hopefully the three coordinators get some more talent, learn to be more aggressive and turn the corner to really become one of the better defenses one league.
