  1. What the hell am I talking about? I'm talking about a one-dimensional offense that relies on the strengths of one player to score points, and move the chains. If Watkins (by your reckoning our "big threat" guy) is unavailable to play for an indefinite amount of time, the result could be a multi-game losing streak. See EJ Manuel's rookie season for clarification. You can also reference the meltdown that occured when Fred Jackson got hurt in '12. But If you've been living under a rock, for the last 14 years, I'll clue you in. Things go wrong. An when you're in a division like ours, you have to have to plan for those things. I'm not so sure EJ can consistenly hit smaller, faster targets at the pro level like Goodwin, woods, and Spiller. In the event Watkins can't go, a big, agile, target ensures we can still move the chains. It also gives us a huge red-zone advantage over typically smaller defenders. As far as my "grip on reality goes" , Marcel Dareus brother was shot to death last year. Earlier this month, Marcel himself was arrested on felony drug charges. Mike Williams had his first DUI as a rookie in 2010.. Since then, he's been arrested on criminal mischief charges, and reportedly stabbed by his brother back in March. Both players are still going through the judicial process. I mentioned two receivers by name. One was Kelvin Benjamin, who was clocked at 4.64, the other was Martavis Bryant, who was, in fact, clocked at 4.42. That's a hair faster than Sammy Also, if you're going to quote people, at least get their statement right. The blue highlighted paragraph was butchered to make your point. -That is simply sad. And I never once said, or implied that Benjamin was better than Watkins. What I would have liked to see is both of them on the field in Bills uni's. I truly believe they could have turned into an unstoppable combination. Coming back to the title of the thread, I don't have buyer's remorse. I just think the shopping spree ended prematurely. IMO, We still need a big target.
  2. -If he can't complete a basic slant, how's the flea-flicker bomb thingie supposed to work? To me, it's the type of play that says "It's OVER" to a team that's already quit emotionally. Terrible, terible, playcall. Nope. We needed a big-threat WR there too. Coulda been a weapon or at the very least a decoy. What the heck are we doing out there if not trying to move the chains? Terrible analogy.... Can you really not see how a kid like Bryant or Benjamin could have COMPLIMENTED both Woods and Goodwin? You think teams like the Patsies say "We have Welker, and Branch, we don't need Gronkowski, and Hernandez" or perhaps Denver thinks Decker and Demariyus are effective enough without Julius Thomas. -NONSENSE. Like it, or not my freind, Overkill is the answer sometimes... IMO, a team that hasn't seen the playoffs in 15 years should be all about finding competitive advantages.
  3. He's the most intelligent runner I've seen in a long time. The guy can see a hole before it opens up, and accelerate right through it. I only wish he had a young protege to learn from him like Ben Malena or Bishop Sankey.
  4. Buyers's remorse? Dude, We haven't even taken the thing out of the bag yet. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving what I see in Watkins. Still, the thought of an offense that focuses on the availability of just ONE weapon troubles me. For all we know Mike Williams could spend opening day in a jail cell next to Marcel Dareus. Bob Woods, and Goodwin are good, but they're "smallish" wideouts that can be shut down... Where the heck is our big threat guy? Kelvin BenJamin or Martavis Bryan't would have been IDEAL. How can a safety ignore a 6'5" kid with 4.4 speed streaking down the sideline? A bona fide big-threat receiver would have exponentialized whatever Sammy does this season. IMO, Moreso than Preston Brown or Ross Cockerell. -Picks that would have likely been UDFA's had we not gotten in the way. Guess that's "water under the bridge," now as they say. In the end, what I think can save us is a QB (and O.C.) mature enough to recognize and exploit whatever defenses give them. Nat Hackett has to set aside dreams of being an offensive genius (He isn't one.) and pay attention to what is going on on the field. That "flea-flicker" he called for Tuel in Cleveland last year was the DUMMEST most tone-deaf, ego-trip I've ever seen. It pretty much confirmed everything I thought of him as a coach. Crap like that can't happen again. I don't have buyer's remorse for Sammy, but to those who think he's a cure-all I say "Buyer beware". This kid needs a solid coaching situation in order to be all we know he can be.
  5. Why bet on something I desperately DON'T want to happen. The list of starters is a PROJECTION. Based on that list, I made another projection factoring in the teams we'd be playing. I don't need to bet, or put my money anywhere. IF that list turns out to be accurate, we could be in for a very long season.
  6. Hard to see much happening on offense.. Doesn't seem to be any surprises for our opponents to game plan for.... Our luck that the schedule looks like an extended version of murderer's row. I see two, maybe three wins when it's all said and done. Sure hope I'm wrong about that.
  7. FINALLY! I have pinpointed the reason I've NEVER, EVER, liked Jerry "Shmuckface" Jones. -He's an ignorant son of a @#*! Worry about your own franchise, and it's GARBAGE quarterback, jackass.
  8. Gotcha. -Fixed, I think. I watched Coates all last season. Kid high-points it with authority. All-weather pass catcher. Has a chance at round 1 if he doesn't f#*@ it up.
  9. If you look at some of Guiton's big runs in college, you see an interesting athletic prospect. I'm seriously thinking wideout. Good height. -Former basketball player. I'm curious to know how well he catches.
  10. Or should I say, a better Sammie? Sammie Coates (Auburn) is 6'2 201lbs of fearsome pass-snatching CREATURE. Pretty violent runner for a wideout. -Still improving. Which is pretty scary if you've ever seen him. Here's a sample....
  11. I'm hoping Guiton replaces TJ at the WR position. -I like the Kid, but he doesn't strike me as a QB at all.
  12. No. WHEN Nat Hackett fails it will be because he's a lousy OC. -Terrible, is actually closer to the truth. The Kaufman kid has awesome hands. The fact that Hackett has no place for that anywhere in his offense is a bad sign. I mean at least get the kid in TC, and see what happens... Four months out, I'm calling it proof of a flawed decision-making process. Or should I say further proof. Guess we'll see.
  13. Dumb move. Brandon Kaufmann deserves a chance with another team. If he gets it, he'll turn heads for sure. Kaufman is a natural-born playmaker. Six months from now when everyone is screaming for Nat Hackett's head, I'll remember this roster cut.
  14. I don't believe Preston Brown or Ross Cockrell can change outcomes the way a kid like Martavis Bryant potentially can. We have roster spots being wasted by the likes of TJ Graham and Chris Hogan. I would have preferred we grab the tall, lanky kid form Clemson with the 4.41 speed.
  15. And this is perhaps my biggest concern.... We're not on the team. We do not coach. We don't call plays. -We're mostly fans. Still, does that mean we have to sit back, horrified, as a worst-case-scenario unfolds? This team isn't known for it's good luck. We've had good players rendered useless (for one reason or another) at critical times more often than I dare keep track of. Given this history, Why shouldn't we discuss options? My stance is that it's better to be prepared. -If only mentally. Many of the answers here are good. In the event we face the challenge depicted, It would shock me if our own TBD posters came up with better solutions than our coaches. -Then we'd know something is REALLY wrong. There's a snippet of offense at the bottom of the previous page. I see an uncoordinated MESS. I see a team that was not ready for the curveball it was thrown. As a fan, I don't think it's too much to ask that we be ready the next time stuff goes down.
  16. Saw your thread. -Liked it! Not sure if I feel the same way about these quick progressions. In certain games, the plays seemed to take longer to unfold, and EJ was rushing. Here's an example. Our guys seem to be running very basic routes. Easily anticipated by that defensive backfield. Then EJ was catching hell up front.... Does a faster player in that scheme really help? I'd almost like to see more intricate routes with some of our WR's called on to block. JMO. I don't have any cool diagrams or anything.
  17. Something like this sounds good. An offense with such explosive players should lead to a record-breaking year for some ignored weapon. You'd think it WOULD be your RB. I certainly wouldn't mind.
  18. Not al all. I momentarily forgot he was on the team. I see Williams on a crossing route being stalked by the SS... Watkins is deep and gaining ground but the FS knows and is closing the gap... Woods is open in the flat momentarily, but EJ doesn't recognize it fast enough. -Ball goes to Chandler over the middle. TOO HIGH. Tipped. INT.... That's negative, I know... But I'm wondering if an RB checkdown isn't the best way to go with the weapons we've got. I can't picture a scenario where we'd have an empty backfield. I'M LOST... HELP!
  19. Ok... Mike Williams. Picture's getting alot clearer here.
  20. Bear with me here... Over the next few weeks I may present some negative scenarios in an attempt to find solutions for them. This is a fairly intelligent fanbase. Some of you take it a step further with an intimate understanding of X's and O's... As much as I LOVED the Sammy pick, I can't help wondering if him and EJ can make the proper connection. -Do we trust EJ to throw in double coverage? -Can he exploit the seam, and throw on time for comeback routes? For the purposes of this discussion, I'm presenting Sammy as our #1 offensive weapon. What's the next best option in the event he's shut down???
  21. Honestly, I was a tad grossed out. There, I admitted it.... I found all that toungue and wedding cake a bit excessive. I woulda been OK with a little PDA, but I think they took it too far. Michael Sam was a great college player. I think he can make a good pro. -Hope he makes the most of this opportunity.
  22. No, he can't. -He can't and he will... I have no problem with EJ striving for perfection. He'll miss, but in the process, he might find excellence. I've always felt that EJ was the best QB in his draft. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the best circumstances. -A rookie head coach, and an OC that hasn't proven he can game plan for anything. Amazingly, EJ is doing the right things. -He's seeking out information. Now he must do the OTHER things. -Study film. Observe what those cosidered "Greats" did, and synthesize what data he can from their success. Most importantly, EJ must reject the paralyzing properties of FEAR. Borrowing a page from the "Green Lantern", Fear is the enemy of will. And will is exactly what EJ must be able to impose on defenses come September.
  23. Prefer Sankey or Seastrunk. Even though Hyde wears my namesake, he lost me with the fake emotional breakdown. -There's some good lower tier RB's like Storm Johnson, Jeremy Smith, and FSU's Devonta Freeman.
  24. I'm on board! For the scotch, AND the tackle. -But mostly for the scotch.
