Who is going to be the biggest surprise Bill this year?
#34fan replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In your opinion, he would work... but I don't like this type of TE, and I still have zero hope it will work. Peters is an Eagle now, and yes Fred counts... Wes Walker was undrafted and cut by the Chargers... he is a prime example of an underrated guy paying bid dividends. -

I was replying to a post that accused me of preferring marginal talent... I was explaining that this isn't the case... It could very well be that the Bills had this in mind all along... If so, then great... The fact that I don't feel as strongly as some do in favor of Clay (who isn't really a "big name") means just that, and only that... If Gray ( who I think could be lethal if coached-up properly) managed to "surprise" the insiders and pundits who prefer someone else... Then we'd all be happy anyway. -

Because IMO, a tweener, who isn't a red-zone threat will struggle to succeed on a team weak at QB... I get Roman's offensive philosophy, I'd just rather have a solid TE, and RZ target... Lots to like about Gray... I think he could be a surprise... Which is the premise of this spculative thread... -

Very few players walk into this league ready to lead their teams to the playoffs... I believe that even a player with seemingly marginal talent, can have that talent exponentialized with the right coaching and development... Something we consistently get WRONG... The Julian Edelmans, Wes Welker's, and Brandon LaFells of the leaugue PROVE that good teams can develop players that don't appear very promising at first... I'm not for marginal talent over big names at all... I just hate it when good talent is marginalized by big names... I think each player we draft, or sign, should be acquired with a specific vision in mind... a purpose... perhaps something we saw them do well at the collegiate level... Something we're planning to exponentialize at the pro level. This requires WORK... sometimes alot of work. -It's worth it when the guy you picked does EXACTLY what you need him to, and then some. -

He's not a true TE... Period. HB perhaps... Maybe a little FB, but definitely a tweener... And as such, Quite frankly, I think we overpaid... This guy is scheduled to make more than Gronk or Jimmy Graham over the next two years. (24.7 million, or so in NFL Salary.) For that kind of money, I'm not that impressed with his 2 red zone TD's last season! I genuinely feel, that Marqueis Gray has more upside as a pure TE... Big, agile, runs good routes, decent speed in the open field.... Just doesn't get the amount of reps a young player requires to get good... As I implied earlier, I hope he makes the most of his reps, and has a breakout year.. GO BILLS! -
Matt Simms has good chance to make team

This! Matt Simms is garbage squared... I'd rather beg Orton to come out of retirement. -

I'm Hoping Marqueis Gray gets a long, hard, look... He definitely has the talent... I have zero faith in Charles Clay, and Nick O'leary needs a solid compliment in 2 TE sets. Wishing the best for Manhertz too (Even though he probably won't make it..) -

Nick O'Leary has tools to be a big factor in Bills offense

Page 3 Post #58... I'm not really a tiresome analysis type of guy.... As for Randall Cobb stats, you'll have to ask the poster who introduced him into the thread... I see you're a relatively new poster.. I'd just like to inquire on how many Bills games you watched last season, and what some of your general observations were. -

The tide I was referring to John, was our nearly two decades-long playoff drought... And while It may not be directly analogous to the ocean, it NEEDS to turn... I lke the two TE sets... I've been calling for them for years. I just think we need that added dimension of a big EZ threat to create mismatches that lead to 6... I stand by what I said. -Size matters.... But, when you've got the type of arm talent a guy like Rodgers brings on Sundays, it matters ALOT less. Randall Cobb doesn't do jack squat without the threat of 6'3" Jordy Nelson BURNING your secondary for an 80-yarder, but fine... Igore Nelson and key-in on Cobb. See what happens. -

"Not sure"? -Of course you aren't sure, because you didn't see the Senior Bowl... Let me say this since you obviously don't know... Nick Boyle can block...Really, really, well... He's got soft hands too, but speed isn't his game... Sticking people is his game... My fear is that he'll get even better at it by the next time we play the Ravens.. Very smart pickup by Baltimore.. I can also tell you never saw Maxx Williams in a game either... Talk about athletic! I don't give a damn what some stopwatch at the skivvy-bowl says, -Maxx Williams' instincts, and game-time speed are a rare find in a TE... As I've said before, I like O'leary a whole lot... The kid is a Natural born winner... He's just not enough of an offensive threat to turn the tide IMO. -

If we had Aaron Rodgers or Big Ben, you and I wouldn't even be having this tortured conversation... As of right now our QB is NOBODY.. And even when it was EJ or Kyle we struggled to move the chains... You think having Murray and Witten on the field didn't free things up a tad for Dez??? And having Leveon Bell, and Martavis Bryant did nothing to help A. Brown's bottom line?... Yah, right.. 6'4" Martavis Bryant's stats were paltry this year.. 26 catches for 549 yards, and 8TD's -No big deal.. But wait... 16 first downs?.. 6 out his 8 TD's grabbed from INSIDE opposing 20??? But the Steelers didn't like that action at all... In fact they HATED it so much they took the biggest TE in the draft (Jesse James PSU 6'7" 262lbs) to NEGATE the effects a big receiver can have in the red zone.. Sadly, The Baltimore Ravens the fell into the same trap... Not only did they snatch standout TE Maxx Williams from under our nose, they doubled down on the position with Blue Hen stud TE Nick Boyle... Get a clue!....Big Targets....EVERYBODY IS DOING IT.. -Everybody GOOD, that is... -

In a word, no. Sammy is very good, of course, and Charles Clay has proved effective at times, but no... it's not enough to uproot the cheating juggernaut that's had a choke-hold on the division for 15 years... We need at least ONE very big guy to help our sorry QB's in the red zone... No hesitaton, just toss it up, and let the big guy go get it...It'd be nice if someone like Chris Manhertz 6'5" 260-ish developed, but that's a very long shot, IMO... We need that blunt force weapon... That Ace of spades... You can't be a "bully' in this league without the physical prowess. -Size matters. -
4 reasons Bills D won't miss a beat without Dareus vs Colts
#34fan replied to pbanach's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Between Fleener, Johnson, TY, and the rest of that offense, we should be good and screwed by halftime... Luck has a gun, and a host of reliable targets to hit with it... Us winning this game whould be nothing short of miraculous. -

I've been watching Nick for years, and I think he's a tremendous athlete... However... I think he needs a "big threat" (Benjamin or Funchess) type WR opposite him in order to really thrive.... as the league's offense have gravitated towards these types of weapons, we've shyed away... A big mistake IMO... I hope Dezmin Smith makes it, but I seriously doubt it... He's BARELY practice squad material IMO... We need more size at WR for 3rd down, as well as for "toss up" red-zone situations.. Until we get that, the playoffs will be a tall order. -

Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft
#34fan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cardale Jones is as legit an NFL QB prospect as any... Arm strength for DAYS, and still manages to put the ball where only his guy can get it... Tough, and intimidating as a runner.. Wills the game to an outcome....Lots to like.. Hoping like heck they keep him away from Dave Lee, and George Whitfield! -

1. Red Helmets 2. White Pants 3. Royal Blue Jersey (with red and white trim) 4. Red Socks I'm as old-school as anyone, but the white helmets are uninspired, and boring... I'm ready for a late 80's-early 90's variation. GO BILLS! -

Who will have a better season Scott Chandler or Charles Clay
#34fan replied to jumbalaya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't recall seeing significant YAC for Charles Clay... Sure, he catches the ball well enough, but meets the turf shortly thereafter.. -Just an observation. I actually think Nick O'leary just might save EJ's bacon... Hewas a reliable target in EJ's days as a 'Nole... Might just work out better than anyone thinks. -that's what i hope, anyway. -
We did great up until the fourth quarter.. Considering our coaching and qb situation... Bryce Brown doesn't fumble and it's a different outcome for sure... Imagine if Orton had a nice big target in the EZ to catch one of his line-drive passes... I love Bobby Woods, but he is a hair and a half too short. disastrous fourth quarter fumble by Mckelvin also...

Andre Davis is a weapon. -Just needs a little polishing. Tarp, and BJ Larsen round out my top 3.

Yah, the Jets are a big threat, if the "Big Cat" can get up to speed... Also with Revis and Cromartie back in the fold, their defensive backfield could be scary... I look for significantly improved QB play by Gang Greenhorn as well. Practicing against veterans like Cromartie and Revis will instantly upgrade whichever starter they roll with... In order to take our division, we'd need STELLAR QB play...

. This could work out better than our Draft, and I'm being serious... AJ Tarpley is a stud when he wants to be... Despite not having ideal size, Andre Davis is a legitimate downfield threat! USU's BJ Larsen and TEX Cedric Reed are a pair of QB-mugging DE's that might actually grow on you as well... -These aren't four kids that could get lucky and make our roster, these are four legit starting threats! Good cmpetition for camp... -I'm excited.
