quarterback coaching and Cardale Jones
#34fan replied to Commish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL! -The point, which you clearly missed, is that personnel decisions are made all the time, in every team sport... Questioning a player's drive based on ONE seems a bit lazy... -Even for you. How's that for a walk-thru? -

I saw a terrific leader on the field with David Garrard... He also posessed a similar skill set to ALL our current QB's... Strong-armed, Mobile and Athletic... TWO things impressed me most about Garrard... One was his incredible field vision... The guy made fabulous throws, and extended plays on a rather routine basis... Even with the miserable O-lines he had at spots in his carreer... The second thing I like about Garrard was that he did not shrink away in big games.. He typically played the Colts tough, and was a headache to contain even for good defenses... Upon retirement, Garrard was actually offered a coaching internship with the Jets, who wanted him in position where he could mentor Geno... This, by the way, happened under Dave Lee's tenure with NYJ. Bottom line: The insight of someone who actually played, and succeeded at the position can't be substituted. Not even with the best of coaches... As important as footwork is, It's also critical for rookies to grasp thought process, and preparation... I've never seen a superbowl won purely on great mechanics. As far as Lee goes, I'm not buying in... There's just very little evidence of him being able to deliver a high-grade product at QB... After 39 years of coaching, there should be... And YES, as the OC of the 2011 Ole Mis Rebels, he's responsible for them being outscored 110 to 13 in their final 3 games... Let him stay, if you want... But bring in Garrard, as a vet these kids can actually learn from. -

Dave Lee is a HORRIBLE quarterbacks coach... I'm no fan of Whitfield's, but Lee is an absolute HACK.... Pennington... Fitz.... Geno.... Plus some of the other names mentioned in this thread... None of whom really stand out as success stories... Under Lee the Ole Miss program stagnated in 2011, racking up just 2 wins on the season and ZERO conquests in the SEC... IMO he is strichnine to young QB's and should be replaced. Now, for the good news: Cardale Jones has a stronger personality, and will to win than ANY of the aforementioned QB's.... Perhaps even strong enough to overcome the lousy coaching he'll no doubt receive from this staff... It's his greatest asset.... As far as someone who should be mentoring young Cardale (and EJ, and Tyrod) -My pick is none other than David Garrard... A veteran who's had some notable success, and some disappointing failures... Not exactly a stellar career, but Garrard was a wily vet who made A LOT of plays when it mattered most... He also knew how to put together a decent drive. I'd fire Lee tomorrow, if I could. -
RD 4, Pick 139: QB Cardale Jones, Ohio State

Gonna be interesting for sure.. I feel like anything can happen. -
Bills should take shot on Moritz Böhringer

We met our quota of Germans with Zimmer and Striker. ( Dutch 'Stryker').... Two strudel-eating fascists. -One with a clever disguise. -

Something to build on... Once we get everybody in camp, we'll see what's what... I just want the best QB to win out. Tyrod shouldn't have a problem.. -
I think that's what you're saying
-
It's actually quite simple: NO to running backs who may not be able to RUN in the near future. -But since his worthless carcass is already here. GO BILLS!
-
And my point is that you shouldn't take a guy with an injury cloud hanging over him, while healthier, more useful options are available... Being cleared by medical staff doesn't mean an injury won't re-occur or be exacerbated by the wear and tear of the game.. Often ACL tears result from "planting" (the foot) while simultaneously shifting directions laterally. If Williams can't plant that foot right, an ACL tear could very well be next on the menu.... Now we've wasted a pick on a guy who may never be ready to go... That outcome, while not written in stone, is still a risk I would have tried harder to avoid... Like you said, he's a Bill now, so I hope he does well... As for Miller, I wouldn't have minded him that much... He's got familiarity with Jones, and has improved by leaps and bounds at the position... A. Washington was a great pick, IMO... Young, strong, and nimble... Now bring on the coaching...
-
My bad... I thought we were talking about Jonagtren Willametg.... It's fixed now.. -How's Wolfolk doing?
-
It's not a conclusion... Just probable cause not to take the kid if there's potential for a nagging injury... What good's a RB with a bad foot? Look, the Bills saw enough my way to leave me pleased with this Draft... We got better defensive talent than anyone else off the board.... I always ike my big WR's , but I can't seriously complain about a couple of picks I wasn't on board with.
-
Being cleared by med staff doesn't equate to production on the field. He's a rookie RB with a dodgy foot going to a situation where the running is harder, and the yardage more contested... I'd have taken a receiver, or at least opted for the more explosive ARK RB, which IMO was Alex Collins... SEA ended up grabbing him, and got one heck of a weapon.
-
Correct.. for some reason I mixed him up ARK running back Juan Day who blew out his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in a spring Practice... Williams did require two screws in his foot to help the ligaments there heal... Foot injuries that don't heal are nagging, painful, and affect the lateral movement of a RB... Still a risk.. Even in the 6th.
-
Krikey! -Why is it all about zee-Germans on this frickin' board?! We made up for not taking Herr Boeringer, by grabbing Herr Striker, and Herr Zimmer... Wienerscnitzel anyone?!!
-
I suspect one could "pan out" to be a very good corner, which is great, but won't improve our RZ efficiency all that much... If a tall, rangy, wideout could make Fitz look good, what could one do for a talented rookie? -Or a game-managing veteran like Tyrod? I think If your football "philosophy" doesn't embrace putting 6 on the board whenever possible, it may be time to revisit, and perhaps adjust it to one thats more conducive to geting wins... I think the Tao's of Aaron Maybin, TJ Graham and EJ Manuel, coupled with the fact that a "sixth....round.... pick" has kept his division-mates in the cellar for a generation, is enough to demand more attention to our bottom line, which should be scoring. The RB has left foot issues, and the WR stands 6 feet even, so I couldn't disagree with you if I wanted to... Darby worked out better than I thought... Hopefully Kevon doesn't Seymour butts running off into the endzone.

RD 4, Pick 139: QB Cardale Jones, Ohio State
#34fan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, I hope it flourishes... I want it to be something opposing DB's worry about. -
There weren't any 1st rounders that size... Still, I think a big WR would have done us more good in the 6th than a corner... Devon Cajuste, Mitch matthews, Alonzo Russell... Coulda been any of those.

RD 4, Pick 139: QB Cardale Jones, Ohio State
#34fan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Jones finds himself a favorite WR it's OVER. -Finding a favorite target is something EJ, Kaepernick, and Tyrod never did.. Brady has Gronk.... Rogers has Nelson... Wilson has Baldwin... Flacco had nobody last season, but used to have Boldin.... QB to wideout chemistry is one of the most impressive things on a football field... You gotta have it if you want to win. -
Look, if by some miracle Rex gets his coaching mind together, and Just TWO of our first three picks work out, your'e looking at a top front seven in the NFL. Ragland is ready to play. -He could start tomorrow. And the kid simply cannot be blocked... -Once Adolphus Washington gets in the weight room, and learns some technique, he's going to collapse pockets. Shaq Lawson has the physical gifts, but he's goig to have to learn everything from scratch... It'll be a lot of work. And I can't think of two better guys to absorb from and compete with than KW and Marcel. Now to Cardale...-The best pick for an OC like Roman... Unlike Manuel, Cardale is a self-starter... Cerebral, and able to improve without constant tuteledge... Naturally accurate, and elusive as a runner... He's a ballerina in the pocket, and a sprinter outside of it....YES, he's entirely capable of taking Tyrod Taylor's Job... Great news because the competition will bring us closer to finding our franchise signal caller... All in all, a shockingly good draft. Though I still wish i got my 6'4 WR.

RD 6, Pick 192: WR Kolby Listenbee, TCU
#34fan replied to Steve Billieve's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You mean the guy who torched the league for a whopping 528 Yards last season? -No thanks.. The ball needs to get downfied to a pair of willing and able hands.. Tyrod and Cardale both have the distance... What they don't have is the ability to reel in 50/50 balls should that situation arise... We need that... IMO, making these types of completions is what puts us over the top in the AFCE. -
RD 6, Pick 192: WR Kolby Listenbee, TCU
#34fan replied to Steve Billieve's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Listenbee is very fast... Still, 6'0" is just too damn small for what we're trying to do.... Roman, -Whaley, are the both of you completely blind? Size matters at WR.... Fitz is garbage. -Yet he had a career season with a 6'5" long-armed WR who could wrangle-in his high and off-target passes... EXCELLENT DRAFT. -Still, you guys won't get squat without a big-target WR for your shaky QB's -
RD 5, Pick 156: RB Jonathan Williams, Arkansas
#34fan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Alex Collins was by far the more explosive RB at ARK... I didn't even know he was in this draft until SEA grabbed him. -Still, Williams is OK. -
RD 2, Pick 41: LB Reggie Ragland, University of Alabama
