  1. When we were kids and saw the "honey dipper" coming to clean out the septic tank, we ran away!
  2. I thought he picked up Kemp on waivers from the Chargers for $100, not $100K.
  3. As KRC pointed out to me in conversation, the first meeting was actually two weeks earlier. I knew that and was happy to see someone else did too! No commentary - just some history: The National Football League is formed as the American Professional Football Association in Canton, Ohio on September 17, 1920. The Akron Pros finished undefeated and are the first champions of the league. The admission fee was $100 per team. The teams pledged not to use any student player who still had collegiate eligibility left, as the good will of the colleges was believed to be essential to survival. The teams also agreed not to tamper with each other's players. Jim Thorpe, a player-coach for one of the teams, became president of the league during its first year. The American Professional Football Association gave way in 1922 to the National Football League (NFL). Red Grange, the famous halfback from the University of Illinois, provided a tremendous stimulus for the league when he joined the Chicago Bears in 1925 and toured the United States that year and the next. His exciting play drew large crowds. Thereafter, professional football attracted larger numbers of first-rate college players, and the increased patronage made the league economically viable. Strategically, the early NFL game was hardly distinguishable from college football at that time. There was no attempt to break away from collegiate playbooks or rule books. For 13 years the NFL followed the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Rules Committee recommendations. In the league's early years, players considered the low-paying NFL a part-time job and held other jobs during the day. Thus, while college coaches could drill their players daily for hours, professional football coaches arranged practices in the evenings, sometimes only three or four times a week. reference one reference two Rocknote: Three original franchises were from WNY - Buffalo, Rochester and Tonawanda The Tonawanda Kardex? Defunct NFL teams 1920-1952 The following is a list and brief history of teams that at one time played in National Football League. In some cases it is hard to tell if a team change its nickname from year to year or if it was a completely new team. It was also not uncommon for two or more teams to have the same nickname during the same season. Please note the purpose of the list is for NFL teams that no longer exist. The last NFL team to fold was in 1952. Also the Colts and Giants teams that are listed on this page are not the current teams in the league today. • Akron Pros • Akron Indians • Baltimore Colts (1950) • Boston Bulldogs • Boston Yanks • Brooklyn Lions • Brooklyn Dodgers • Brooklyn Tigers • Buffalo All Americans • Buffalo Bisons • Buffalo Rangers • Canton Bulldogs • Chicago Tigers • Cincinnati Celts • Cincinnati Reds • Cleveland Tigers • Cleveland Indians • Cleveland Bulldogs • Columbus Panhandles • Columbus Tigers • Dallas Texans (1952) • Dayton Triangles • Detroit Heralds • Detroit Panthers • Detroit Tigers • Detroit Wolverines • Duluth Kelleys • Duluth Eskimos • Evansville Crimson Giants • Frankford Yellow Jackets • Hammond Pros • Hartford Blues • Kansas City Blues • Kansas City Cowboys • Kenosha Maroons • Los Angeles Buccaneers • Louisville Brecks • Louisville Colonels • Milwaukee Badgers • Minneapolis Marines • Minneapolis Red Jackets • Muncie Flyers • New York Giants (1921) • New York Yankees • New York Bulldogs • New York Yanks • Newark Tornadoes • Oorang Indians • Orange Tornadoes • Pottsville Maroons • Providence Steam Roller • Racine Legion • Racine Tornadoes • Rochester Jeffersons • Rock Island Independents • Staten Island Stapletons • St.Louis All Stars • St.Louis Gunners • Toledo Maroons • Tonawanda Kardex • Washington Senators reference three
  4. Nonsense. America invented everything. Hell, we invented gravity.
  5. I take credit for her wonderful personality. Mrs. Rock gets credit for her looks. (No, I am not posting her picture!) Nikki had a great time. Many of you were already friends with her from last year.
  6. Yes, you must be right. Frez, tell your 8 year old to be a man. Are you kidding me! Go talk to the teacher and get some information from the teacher's side by all means. I never coddled my four kids, but I never abandoned them to assh*les with tenure either. Get the facts Frez, and take it from there. You may not be an idiot, insensitive, or even right, deeray, but you jump to conclusions very quickly and condemn a whole generation with only few facts. Rockpile - whose kids were not "silver spoon fed, video game, tv watching, lazy, unmotivated, fat, medicated to the max" at all. All are active responsible young adults.
  7. Thanks, Brandon! Wow, Rockpile and ICE in one frame and the lens did not crack.
  8. I do not remember what it cost but when we had our property lines surveyed we also had them put in metal spikes, not just wooden stakes with red flags. You can pound them into the ground and find them years later with a metal detector. I do not know where you live. I would consider evergreens for a year round barrier (like an arborvitae in the northeast), and see if there any places where you can dig your own, and transplant them. That can save you $20-$30 per tree or more depending on the size. Do NOT crowd them, and keep the row trimmed. They will grow 25ft tall or more if you do not keep them topped at 8-12 feet high. Great natural fence. Good luck.
  9. I did not get much use from my camera, Sunday. Too busy socializing I guess. I was hoping to get photos from some of the OTHERS here. Please?
  10. I regret you were so busy I did not have time to thank YOU properly. YOU are an excellent host. Thank you, Hammer!
  11. Pleasure meeting you; it was like a reunion with an old friend - no barriers! Who would have pictured Nikki and ICE sitting together in the Pub, chowing down steaks and having a drink. And me with no camera.
  12. At that time the ability to project instant replay in 5 shades of black and white was hi-tech.
  13. Rich, you need to clean your PMs out, your file runneth over. PLEASE send me your e-mail ASAP about the Jets game. (click on my screen name for my address) Thansk!
  14. I will not let let the morons ruin my tailgate with TSW. It would be less of a party without you Bart! Our section was actually pretty well behaved, and loud when we needed to be. B)
  15. Hang in there, Bill. Sending my prayers to you and your family. Sometimes people go to work in the face of extreme adversity because it is how they stay sane. Feel free to e-mail or pm me if you want to talk. Let us know how the MRI comes out. I have had three head and brain stem MRIs and I can say they are not bad. Let me know if you have questions about that.
  16. Problem was, you asked! SOMEONE is always selling something or fund raising. Just do it... I know you are legit and have a very worthy cause. No one will hassle you.
  17. Zubaz are really loud. You can only wear them when the other team has the ball.
  18. They have a right to be there. They should also have the right to be taken out and executed.
  19. Cannot disrespect Henry though. Henry: 23 rushes, 75 yards, 3.3 avg, 3 catches, 9yards McGahee: 9 rushes, 31 yards, 3.4 avg, 1 catch, 12 yards McGahee MAY be the future but TH is not finished.
  20. Hard to place the entire blame on the D when the offense had three drives of 10 plays or more and NO POINTS!
  21. Had a guy several rows in front of us who tried to get the wave going - all game long. The he expressed disgust when he got very little response from the crowd. THEN, late in the game the whole stadium starts doing the wave. Problem was the Bills had the ball!! I was screaming at this guy: "Sit down, WE have the ball!" but he was too pleased with himself to hear anything, and too ignorant to know the wave was intended to rattle the OTHER team with the ball. I was hoping the national media did not catch this. Made Buffalo fans look like complete maroons!
  22. Hey, you are a Bills fan. Repeat after me... "Wait until next year!" I am not down on this team. I am already planning on going to the Jets game.
  23. Hey, bro, I was smiling when I said that!
  24. Rich, argue with me any time. There are many fans MUCH younger than me who can analyze the game better than I ever will. Just don't ever lump me in with the Dickerson types! I have NEVER been with that crowd.
  25. Cheap shot? Same game, good angle. B) I was very impressed with the D for 58 minutes. I loved 32 runs for 106 yards by Henry and McGahee. BUT - commitment to the run? 3rd and goal from the Jagwads 1 yard line? Bledsoe goes back to pass and get sacked. WTF? Great call! Where were the two TEs, RB, FB?? They lacked the heart in the last few minutes to put the game away. Three 4th down conversions, the last to win the game. I NEVER giveup on the Bills, but this game pissed me off!
