CUTS - a few thoughts....
DJasper Probincrux III replied to Booger's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For some reason Marv Levy liked Kenny Davis on the GL better than Thurman Thomas. Wayne Fontes let Derrick Moore vulture a bunch of TDs from Barry Sanders because Barry "wasn't a good goalline runner". Al Davis ran Marcus Allen out of town. I never understood that. You have 2 HoF backs and you sit them. You just wanted to sit them down and say "If you need 1 yard to save your life do you want to give the ball to Barry Sanders or Derrick Moore?" If the answer is Sanders then WHY ISNT HE ONT HE FIELD! -

I don't think his body will let him play anymore. If they wanted vet leadership from a declining CB they'd have kept Florence - his body still functions correctly. -

If Fitzpatrick keeps hanging him out like he did Thursday he won't be the real deal very long. -

Yeah let's hope that puts the Tashard Choice as a goalline vulture talk to bed. That was hard to watch. -
How did Tank Carder look?
DJasper Probincrux III replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In my unlearned opinion he looked active but little. He got flagged for a facemask on a play where he was flat out owned by the RB and his hand got caught in the facemask as he was being trucked. It helps that our LB depth is crap but he looks like a Jauronimo LB to me. -

I'm bringing my 6 y/o up for the Tennessee game for his first Bills game. We went to an Eagles PS game last year and it was great. He also went to 2 Sabres/Flyers playoff games in Buffalo when he was 4 and had a great time. He's loud and wants to cheer and participate and he already knows the 3 most important words int he English language (Let's Go Buffalo!) I can deal with bad language (he hears more than he should already) but I'm more than a little bit worried about someone being fall down inebriated and deciding to either be violent or puke all over themselves. The last game I was at was the horrible Cleveland mess and it was fine (because I think the game put everyone to sleep) but the game before that was vs. the Jets and it was a trainwreck. The row behind us was nearly black out drunk and two of the girls in the group were barfing or nearly barfing for about a quarter. The row in front of us wanted to stand the whole game and got wildly pissed off when my 60 y/o father asked them to sit down. I started going to game with my parents in 1984 at age 6 and had my own seat from 89-95 so i've seen my share of stadium nonsense but I never felt unsafe during that time. It was known not to sit in the endzone and there were more than a few big BIG scuffles down there over the years. I'm already fighting the Philly influence since the kid lives here and has only lived here. I'm winning with hockey but losing with football. Part of that is the great time he had going to the Sabres games with my Dad and I. I hope that he doesn't get turned off of being a Bills fan by other Bills fans being jackasses. It makes me sad that I even have to type that. One of the best parts of going to games when I was a kid was it felt like you were seeing your extended family. You sat with the same people every week and those people got to see me grow up and I felt like I knew them too. I'd see them 10-12 times a year which was more often than I saw a lot of my actual extended family. The guy I sat next to for 6 years was named Rick and he wore a red satin Bills jacket all the time. He and his friends would sneak in beers in the sleeves and hoods of their coats but they were never out of control, ever. They had fun and were fun to be with. The guy at the end of the aisle was named Wayne and he'd wear a shirt that read "Section Supervisor" on it and I credit him for teaching me most of the foul language I know but he was funny as hell so even my parents didn't get too upset with him. I miss watching the games with those people and I have no idea if they still go or not. I hope they do - I like to think of the stadium with Wayne in it when I watch on TV. I want to give my son a taste of that so those of you who feel like the stadium isn't a place for kids I challenge you that that is the place where the best future fans are made. If my son can't go to RWS dressed in Bills gear and have a good time I'm going to lose the battle because I already know that he can go to the Linc and do the E-A-G-L-E-S chant and sing Fly Eagles Fly and be welcomed by the adults in the building. BTW - my old seat was Section M6 row 10 seat 111 - right in the middle of Section M5 and M6. If you sat near there from 89 - 95 I was the big kid in the Bennett jersey and zubaz pants

Don't leave out Joe Dufek! -
Does this mean I'll have to stop hating Toronto if this comes to pass? God I can already imagine the political wrangling between the city, Erie County, Niagara County, NYS, and all of the assorted agencies and authorities who would want a piece of this. Getting transportation infrastructure built and a stadium would be the ONLY plusses of this.
-
So 250 million then??? I think that IF a new stadium were built it needs to have a rail hub integrated into it so folks from across the state would have easier access. Also, people from Canada could access the stadium that way as well. Taking the train is the BEST way to get a stadium and I do it whenever possible. No driving, no parking, no traffic. Schumer does have some influence over transportation funds and that is one of the few things (for me) that would make sense about locating a stadium downtown. Putting it downtown makes it more expensive no doubt and I feel like there would be tremendous pressure to make it a retractable dome which drives up the cost even higher. We need to look to Baltimore for guidance rather than Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh's stadium is right ont he waterfront and we don't want that in Buffalo. Baltimore has the stadium downtown, adjacent to the baseball stadium, near rail access. It's a compliment to the Downtown/Inner Harbor area, not a dominating piece of it that ties up acreage with the structure and scads of parking right on the water. The area next to FnC seems about right but there'd need to be access improvements (but we want those anyway). Borders would be Illinois St, Michigan Ave., Scott St. and South Park Ave. We could use the stadium project as the conduit to get state and federal transportation monies to get our new bridge to the outer harbor as well as improvements to Ohio St. and access to and from the 190 to that part of town which will help development down there in general.

Just because you yourself don't have the physical gift to do something doesn't mean you don't know or can't teach the correct way to do it. I can pick apart pitching mechanics but I can't throw 90+mph, I don't have that gift. It doesn't mean I can't look at mechanics and see what's wrong. Hell the Dolphins had a kicking coach with cerebral palsey who used a wheelchair for a while who, for obvious reasons, had never kicked a ball in his life.

Fitz comes out throwing as Bills open camp

If we had a long lost of two timers since 1996 I'd agree with you more readily. Clearly passing is up. I don't look at this as proof of anything other than we finally have a QB who can at least hang around with other NFL QBs in the passing era. I don't see him throwing for 5k yards or 50 TDs but he wasn't very far off from 4k and regardless of era 4k yards is some quality work throwing the ball. In 1991 (Kelly's best year) Dan Marino had 549 attempts for 3,970 yards and 25 TDs Last year Fitzpatrick had 569 attempts for 3,832 yards and 24 TDs Fitz threw way more picks (23 to 13) It's admittedly far from a perfect comparison and I am in no way equating Fitz to Dan Marino in terms of talent - in this era Marino would be ungodly. But in terms of production the two years are pretty stinking close. What does this mean? Nothing other than we probably have the chance to compete at the QB position which has been rare in the post-Kelly era. We had about a year of good Bledsoe, a year of good Flutie and that's basically been it. It's refreshing. -

DJasper Probincrux III replied to bowery4's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not for nothing but in Bills history there are only 4 QBs who have thrown 20 or more TDs 2+ times. Jim Kelly - 7 Joe Ferguson - 4 Drew Bledsoe - 2 Ryan Fitzpatrick - 2 There have only been 3 QBs to throw for 3k yards 2+ times Jim Kelly - 8 Joe Ferguson - 2 Ryan Fitzpatrick - 2 Fitzpatrick threw for the 3rd most yards in team history despite having no WRs and being broken the second half of the year and he trailed Kelly's best season by only 12 yards. I know stats are irrelevant but lets make sure we put his accomplishments into some sort of historical context for the team. -
