Shawne Merriman-- Team Player?
DefenseWins replied to miserable_fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This team has no chance of going 4-0. What kind of DRUGS are you taking? Did you not see the Patriots DESTROY the Jags 47-12 and the next week DEVASTATE the Bucs 31-14?? Not that the Bills have ever played very well in KC for starters... And Oakland isn't looking too shabby either... Yeah, The Bills should beat Cinci but that ain't saying much... My prediction is 1-3, 2-2 unlikely though possible... I agree though that the Bills let themselves get "played" by Clabo... Question for you... Why would a GM not make offers to 4 or 5 players (OT's) at once to "weed out" those who are not really serious?? Guys like Doug Free, Marshall Yanda (He can play G or T allegedly), both young improving players by the way, the kind you can biuld around... There were other OT's and Guards as well... What does this say about your GM?? Do you think other teams put Pears, Wrotto and Urbik on waivers for no good reason??? The answer is they S*CK! And Merriman is trying to come back from an extremely serious injury that has ended the careers of countless players... I wish him well too, but statistically the odds are not that good... It's difficult to make any assumptions about his play. You can hope for the best but there are no guarantees for sure... -
So anyone who is not a "GAME CHANGER" however you might define it must go???? I got a news flash for you! Most players in the NFL are not "GAME CHANGERS"... You need what I might call "mid-level" players (good - but not great, would be my definition) and Lee was certainly that... I don't mind replacing Evans when you bring in a BETTER player, for sure... But none of these guys have come even close to doing that... And while I like this years draft, none of last year's picks is even close to starting yet... Troup and Carrington appear to have promise... Spiller hasn't earned anything yet and that is indeed disturbing... I think we can all agree that an improved OL would make evaluating Fitz, Spiller, Brad Smith as well as our young receivers much easier...

At What Point Do Nix and Gailey Own This Team

Perhaps, if the Sabres win the Stanley Cup this year Terry will set his sights on Winning a SuperBowl or Two.... That may be our Best Hope... -

And they surely are as well... But as the article clearly points out, 2011 and 2012 are nothing more than opportunities for the owners of these franchises to make a killing financially... And as Jerry Sullivan's recent article pointed out, the Bills have not been spending up to their own "cap" for several years now... Is there ever a time NOT to try to improve your team? This article mentions that each team is getting $125M this year in TV money. The Bills are somewhere between 25-30 million or more, under this right now. That spells "NOT TRYING TO WIN"... I won't waste my money on a team that is NOT TRYING TO WIN... Maybe it makes YOU happy to stuff Ralph's pockets with cash... NOT ME... -

Nobody is asking for a Dan Snyder, or a "Dream Team" approach but a couple of NFL capable OT's is not asking too much IMO. All Nix has done is pick up a few waiver wire pieces of garbage. And then there was last year's trade for Cornell Green... We all remember how well that turned out... -
Actually, it goes back to Spiller vs Bulaga...

Glad to see the Chicken Littles are out in full force

Why does it have to wait? FA ain't over yet. Granted "the best and the brightest" may be gone but there are still better players available than we currently have. I'd like to be at least "marginally entertained" this season... And we have loads of cap space... -
San Diego ended up with a nice consolation prize though in Rivers...
-
Just remember John Elway... He didn't like being drafted by the Colts and forced a trade to Denver...
-
Our OLine IS THE PROBLEM.
-
It doesn't matter what Gailey wanted... The Bills never had a chance to get him.... If it made sense for us / to the Bills, to draft him, it certainly would make sense that Carolina was gonna draft him... I mean Carolina had an arguably worse situation at QB than the Bills... Besides, I think Dareus will workout just fine here... Now if we could just get us an offensive line...

And how many of Buddy's picks from last year are currently starting?

Updated cap space for all 32 teams

Wrong. There is no cap "floor" this year or next.... -

For those that are worried about the O-line

Yes, but alot of those other 30 GMs have at least one NFL caliber OT on their squad... We have none... Actually, I am not a big fan of Gaither... But look at all the other OTs that we apparently didn't even attempt to sign... Free from Dallas and Yanda from Baltimore just to name a couple... Nothing says that you have to wait on Clabo like we did while he took our offer back to Atlanta to match... We would have had to overpay ANYONE to come here but when you are sitting on over 30 million in cap space you can afford to overspend abit - especially at a critical position... Clabo was hardly the only up and coming young player out there.... -
YOU HAVE NO F$KIN IMAGINATION.... RALPH CROAKS, THE BILLS ARE SOLD TO TERRY PEGULA, AND THE FIRST THING HE DOES IS TELL HIS NEW GM TO GO OUT AND BUY AN OFFENSIVE LINE....
-
In the past 5 years, have we re-signed...

Who else would hire a 70 year old rookie GM????
