I have always been amazed at his potential, he seemed to be right where he should be, was rarely beaten badly, he just didn't play the ball right. I just find it hard to believe that with some intensive coaching he couldn't turn into a great player. That said, I'm just not sure who could be "that coach" for him to become the player he could be.

Stephon Gilmore Signed by the Bills
simpleman replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't care if all he ever does is scowl, and never says a word. As long as he plays hard and makes a substantial positive contribution every game toward making the Bills a winner, I will do all the smiling and cheering for him! -

According to Websters Dictionary Film - 4. Motion Picture. It does not matter the specific media, it is still "film"! -
I thought we were going to get a big WR...

I never said Nix was GM in early 2009 , please learn to read before you make false statements. He came to this team as a talent evaluator and his job was to evaluate talent. He was a major part of a team that produced that draft. As the saying goes "garbage in, garbage out". If your head scout is fed bad information, he can make bad decisions. I find it hard to believe that the scouting department did not work as a team on player evaluations and that Nix was not involved in their recommendations. Coming from the talent evaluation team, he worked his way up through the organization throughout 2009. He became GM in December 2009. He had months to prepare for the draft, since the Bills were already toast for the season when he became GM. From January till the draft his number one job was the draft, free agents and resignings, there were no games or practices to prepare for. Correct me if I am wrong, but usually the head of scouting ultimately works for the GM in most organizations. Considering Nix supposedly came from that organization's talent evaluation department, he should have been able to know enough about that side of the business to make informed decisions using input from his own staff (Modrack). In business, the buck stops at the desk of the boss. He is totally responsible for the 2010 draft. No excuses. I simply presented the facts about the team in my post. I do not accept excuses or justifications. The facts are facts. You are welcome to dispute the facts, if the ones I gave were wrong. Was I wrong about the win/loss record, the success of the picks, or the pro bowl appearances? But they are not, they are simple history. Sorry you don't like the history. You prefer to mitigate the facts with excuses and try to paint them into your delusional fantasies. But sadly, they still remain facts. As with players, what they did 5 or 10 years ago does not mean squat today, it is about today, it is about what he has done with the Bills in the past 3 years, that is the reality. You can try to paint the reality anyway you want to, but it does not change it. Those of us who are not delusional do not have to accept your delusions as ours. Enjoy your Kool-Aid. Unlike religion or politics, being a fan does not require you to have faith in the unproven, or accept lies as fact, and facts as lies. The game is played for the benefit and the entertainment of the fan, the fan does not exist for the benefit of the team, the owners, the management or the players. They get our money in exchange for providing us entertainment. We get to criticize and question them as part of the deal, we pay for it. -

Welcome to TBD, home of the Kool-Aid drinkers and lemmings galore. Kool-Aid drinkers just don’t deal well with reality and logic. “They Want to Believe”. And you had better too, or else! Everyone says Nix is a good evaluator of talent, yet let’s look at the facts In the 3 years since Nix returned to the Bills and was in charge of player evaluations, they have had the worst 3 year record in 25 years. Since Nix returned to the team in 2009 the Bills have sent 2 players to the Pro Bowl In any 3 year period in the last 10 years the least number of players that the Bills sent to the pro bowl was 6. At least 2 per year. Last year none were sent. In 2011 he had a number 3 pick and selected Dareus, a player who was in fact worthy of a number 3 pick, but then again so were all the possible top 5 picks last year. He picked 4 players that may or may not turn out to be above average players this year, this season will tell that story. In 2010 the only possible standout pick was Spiller with a top 10 pick, this year will tell the story on Spiller. In 2009 the Bills wasted the 11th pick on Maybin, but had a decent draft with the next four picks, no standout players, but decent players This record does not show Nix to be anything but a below average selector of talent since he joined the Bills in 2009. Many of the Kool-Aid drinkers talk about how he is the Pro and he knows more than us, but as a “Pro”, his record in Buffalo is well below stellar. You earn faith, and he has to date done little to justify my faith. -
While the draft after round 2 was not exactly what I wished for, with the exception of round 3 I think the Bills did well. But the Round 3 pick was a real WTF. A developmental player, a one dimensional player. There was so much WR talent in the draft and we wasted a 3rd on this pick. And besides we have a QB with a weak arm and lousy accuracy deep. Even if the WR had hands like glue (which his history does not show at all) our QB for at least the next two years is not good enough to take advantage of a burner. There were so many decent quality WR though the first 5 rounds of the draft (and a couple of serviceable TEs that could not only catch, but block and stay back for protection if needed) and we wasted 2 picks on 6 or 7th round talent in the 3rd. No number 2 possession receiver and no developmental QB. The defense got better and I give the Bills and A on defense for the draft, but a C on offense for the draft. The line choices were good, but the QB, TE, and WR were not properly addressed at all. I know everyone says our FO does not do TEs but the rest of the league has moved into the present and out team is stuck in the past about TEs.

Been talking him up for months. And taking him in the 5th is fantastic. A pick I really like. Hope he justifies my belief he will be a solid player (not a star, but a good solid, reliable player)

Still some good talent available .....
simpleman replied to Don't stop billievein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Carder LB, Toon WR, McNutt WR, Possession Receivers. Lewis LB depth, Sanders RT depth, Dennard CB Depth, Crick DB depth. Criner WR developmental, Lindley QB developmental project. After that everyone else is a shot in the dark and hope to hit something of value. -
RD 3, Pick #69: WR TJ Graham - NC State
simpleman replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just when I was beginning to have some faith in the Bill's competence they absolutely wasted two picks on 7th round questionable talent in the 3rd. What a HORRIBLE pick by the Bill's. Must have been past Nix's bedtime. There was so much talent available and they ruined a good draft. It is all downhill from here. SAD!! -
I agree

If Martin and David are there, who do we take
simpleman replied to aussiebills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My feelings exactly! -
I personally like Fleener, but he should be gone by then and Nix does not want a TE. But if we take someone like Martin, Glenn, David, Quick, Jeffery or Randle I would not be unhappy in round 2.

RD 1, Pick #10: DB Stephon Gilmore - South Carolina
simpleman replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very happy. The Bills made the pick I would have made in rd 1 for two years in a row. Only hope they pick a few of the players I want in the other rounds, last year the were 0 for 6 in the later rounds -
Top three realistic choices
simpleman replied to WhitewalkerInPhilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Realistically Gilmore, Barron, Floyd. If either Kalil, Blackmon or Claiborne should somehow drop in a miracle, of course I would jump on one of them, but I don’t see that being too realistic. -
I did not think so earlier, but Wilson in the 4th if he is there. Even as just a solid career backup with a lot of upside possibilities. A "Reich" to whoever we ultimately get as our feature QB, it is definitely worth a 4th to get our "Reich" for the next 10 years. Wilson seems to have the skills, attitude and instincts to fill that role.

I really like those picks. Although I would add McNutt in the 3rd at 3

I only wish. If we had that draft it would be time to bring out the bubbly. Don't think Martin will slip that far though. -
Character and Talent, plain and unsimple
simpleman replied to Pilsner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree! It's about winning, we are not talking about a religious leader, politician, teacher, next door neighbor, family or friend. It's a paid athlete who is paid to win. -
I have thought for a long time that if McNutt is there in the 4th we should grab him. Great hands and a lot of upsides and a great value in the 4th. A no brainer if he is still there in the 5th. No matter who we choose ahead of him at tackle Adcock at 5th or higher would be a good project for depth at tackle if he is willing to work hard on his form, his strength and balance. No expectations of starting this year but we need to prepare players for the protection for our QB of the future that we draft in the next two years.

Interesting. Serious question here. Is there any rule against doing something like this to add a little height for a QB? Would it be illegal equipment?
-
Yeah! Just like Pigpen.

What would your Draft prospect BPA list look like?
simpleman replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I qualified it with the 2nd question because I knew I might get answers like yours. You fail! -
I still only see about on 6 to 7 almost “sure thing” picks in this draft. If the Bills truly were just picking BPA at 10, what would your list as the top 15 BPA look like? How would you rank the draft prospects strictly based on being the BPA? Below are some of the so called “experts” lists. cbs fftoolbox draft countdown Scouts Inc. ESPN

Okay, talk me out of Gilmore in the 1st.
simpleman replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After Claiborne, who we don’t have a shot at, I see three quality CBs left in the draft, Gilmore, Kirkpatrick and Jenkins. Of them I see Gilmore is the best fit for the Bills. I don’t see any of them lasting till the Bills 2nd round pick. After them I don’t see a CB left in the draft with a reasonable chance of turning out to be a top quality CB and being so in their first year. I really believe the Bills greatest need is LT. But Reiff, Martin and Adams just all seem too flawed for a #10 pick. And we all know there is no way Kalil will even make it past the top 5. I don’t see any of them as much of a sure thing. I see Sanders and the rest of the 2nd – 3rd rounders as not that much of a drop off in potential for success. While I believe Floyd will be the technically BPA and is a position of need, I really believe the difference in talent between him and the huge pool of talented receivers for the 2nd round is not really that great. Hill, Jeffrey, Sanu, Randle, Streeter, even McNutt in later rounds all seem to have the potential to be true contributors to the team, and it appears more than a couple will still be there to choose from when the Bills 2nd round pick is up. Thanks for the responses. The true first round talent this year is about 6 or 7 picks deep, and then it seems everyone else is more like 2nd round talent. And we pick at #10. So that is my dilemma, this is one year I’m glad I am not responsible for making the draft choices. Glad the pressure is not on me, it is a tough year for Nix and company to have a #10. So much pressure, so little chance of finding sure thing talent, and so many high expectations from all of us.
