Hurry Up Offense at the End of a Game
simpleman replied to Storm Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the last quarter the NE defense had to play 4:09 minutes, defend 10 plays total, during which the Buffalo defense racked up 20 yards in total offense and converted one 3rd down. One of those plays had a long stoppage to enforce a penalty. How does a hurry up offense tire the defense out at that grueling pace, lol? For the hurry up offense to work, you must first have an offense able to complete plays. The hurry up is just a gimmick, if you do not first work on execution. If the coaching staff wants to live and die by the hurry up, they must first teach the players how to properly execute before they then try to play hurry up. If the players are rushing too much to be able to properly execute, you have a problem. You have to be able to walk before you can run. -

Did Pats kick FG on 5th down at 21-17?
simpleman replied to Boatdrinks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This was another case of snatching a defeat from the jaws of victory. And I place the blame squarely on the coaching. The team was undisciplined and allowed the penalties to cost them a win. When so many members of the team commit so many sloppy penalties it is a result of bad discipline and coaching. Two costly penalties for twelve men on the field in the same game is unacceptable. And just like the Gailey era, inflexibility by the coaching staff cost us. Being inflexible about clock management and not knowing when to abandon the hurry up was deadly. Bad coaching was responsible for this loss. -

I agree. If it is really about regionalization to keep the team in WNY, and not some gift designed to enhance the welfare of the residents of the City of Buffalo,I'm not sure if the answer is Canada, or other areas of NYS. If marketing shows you get the biggest bang for the buck by bringing in the Rochester market, then locating it outside of Erie County is the answer, maybe somewhere near the Batavia/LeroyT/Way exits. Plenty of ease of access from the Rochester area and a straight shot down the TWay from Buffalo and Canada. Just make sure there are plenty of remote lots in both Buffalo and Rochester where the Bills could bundle transportation / the tailgate experience with the game day ticket. Both Family atmosphere and Party atmosphere buses, and keep them as separate as possible. Even at the new stadium there should be separation for the families and the partiers as much as possible by it's design and management. The best of both worlds for both segments. Let the beer flow in one part and NO beer in the other part. If Canada gives the marketing a bigger buck, then locate the stadium somewhere along the blighted industrial areas between Buffalo and NF NY. It should not be about what is good for the City of Buffalo, it should be about what will best keep the team in the area and all about the game of Football for the fans. And being located between Buffalo and NF gives easy access to both areas, their attractions, and a whole lot more hotels. Locating it in NF just gives Canada(NF) a bigger boost. Being across the river will be no boost for the US, since NF Canada will drain the boost away from NF NY. Why would anyone choose to stay in NF NY when they can just as easily stay in NF Canada. The choice is easy. As for a Superbowl, it is about the game, not the view. People will come to a Superbowl regardless of the area. The chances of getting one before the probably 25 year average lifespan of a football stadium today is slim anyway. NYC has been the biggest market for years and it just finally got the Superbowl. What are Buffalo's chances of getting it in such a short 25 year timespan if NYC took this long? -

And again, why would you waste valuable waterfront property to locate the stadium there. It does not matter where the stadium is to host the events, it would have the same effect desired located anywhere in the city where there is ample less valuable property. You could do the same at the current location, why not just keep the stadium where it is if that is what you are trying to accomplish? It would be a lot less costly. The answer you give is far from logical or obvious. Buffalo has plenty of underused, unused spaces and old manufacturing, industrial, and even unused former railroad facilities. -

I just don't get the logic here. Prime waterfront land is there for the view and use of the, gasp, "water". Why would you put parking lots and stadiums here? Oh, and then you will want to dome it, since the wind and cold coming off the water during the football season will be brutal. The stadium is only used exactly one week out of 52 weeks a year. Who needs a waterfront view, the eyes are on the field, not the view. It is as silly as putting indoor museums, attractions and casinos there. A stadium goes where there is space for parking and a stadium. Not on valuable or expensive prime waterfront land. Let's use our resources wisely. The needs for a stadium are plenty of space for parking and the stadium, convenient quick and easy access by cars and mass transit to get in and out of before and after the game. Don't waste space that is valuable for reasons such as being on the waterfront. -
I am not saying Kyle is not good this year, but do you really believe Kyle will be around in 2015? He will not be worth $4 million if he still is, he will be 33 or 34 years old. Restructuring makes sense only high paid younger players with their their upside years still ahead of them, not on players on their declining downside years. Use the money wisely on younger players still heading toward their peak years, not heading down the other side of the mountain.

Still in the same place in Bat-town, just another name because of family disfuctionality. Still great pizza@! We grew up on Mighty and love it, but an outsider would say what the &*$! is this suppose to be? It is an acquired taste. Always better after a night of drinking on the way home. -

You use the best guy you have if you want to win. He is the best period! I would give Goodwin a shot as well. -

Does Goodwin make you rethink the McKelvin deal?
simpleman replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the OP is getting way ahead of reality on Goodwin. We are only two preseason games into the season. Ask me about McKelvin VS Goodwin on returns 5 or 6 real games into the season if Goodwin is better than McKelvin on both punt and kickoff returns. We need to see a game history comparison to make an informed decision. If McKelvin does not make it as a CB under our new system and coaches this year this is our hit to release him after this year : Dead money: McKelvin 2014 $3,000,000 2015 $2,000,000 2016 $1,000,000 -
I really don't understand a lot of posters here. The posters that for the past two years have been saying it takes two to three years for WRs to blossom and become all they are capable of. Posters who defended Graham last year and still cut him a lot of slack this year. Yet, they are ready to give up on Rogers. He is for real, in preseason and practice he has shown flashes of brilliance. It is just a matter of effort and maturity whether or not he will become what he is capable of being, a superstar. As someone mentioned, Hogan and Sampson's ceiling is pretty much Roger's floor. Smith is just an average receiver at best. Kaufman should be able to make it to the PS and give the Bills a chance to see what he is really capable of. I believe this is a rebuilding year, there is no Super Bowl in our future this year. It is about next year and the future. Forget the average receivers this year and take a gamble on the future next year and the year after when we will be a legitimate force in the league if Manuel works out as we all hope. Roger is a gamble we would be foolish to give up on too soon. Give him the chance we have given Graham (who still has not proven himself yet either). He have Stevie,Woods,Goodwin(plus ST value) and Easley's last shot to be the WRs this year. Give Graham and Rogers the chance to show us what they can become. Fifth and sixth receivers are not going make a huge impact on our season this year and should be considered our developmental projects for the future, not just adequate cogs in a machine like Smith,Hogan and Sampson.

EJ hurt knee according to BB.com
simpleman replied to Kemp2Warlick's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thinking good thoughts. I would feel better if Kolb did not reek in the last game. But only the real Kool-aide drinkers expected a winning season this year anyway, this is a rebuilding season with a new attitude and a lot of rookies with real potential learning how to win. The realists among us just hoped for real growth and a team consistently winning and jelling by the end of the season so we were ready for a real drive next year. But the statement about the starters not playing the final game is something I'm not so sure of. That is the old way of approaching the preseason, and the exciting thing this year is the coaching staff is approaching preseason a whole different way! It has shown in the first two games as the other teams have looked under-motivated and poorly coached compared to the crispness and execution of the Bills. This new attitude about winning in the preseason, instead of just getting through it, is exhilarating and promising! -

Since I didn't see the game, no Byrd, but how did A Williams play today? No one mentioned him, good or bad. -
The most exciting part of the draft for me was getting Rogers as free agent. So far he has been a disappointment. Not horrible,, but still he is making it tough to justify his roster spot over the competition, I never expected that.

Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't the vet Welch get called for two penalties? I would think that would hurt.

I'm not a Kool-aide drinker, but I was very impressed with the coaching of the team. Compared to the Colts our players were disciplined, motivated and energetic. Yes, this was a preseason game and teams have different philosophies about how to approach them. And players respond to the philosophy of the coaching staff. The first string, and even the second string backups for the Colts seemed to be just trying to avoid getting hurt. There was little effort or fire in most of them. They just seemed to be going through the motions during the game. They seemed disinterested, almost lackadaisical at times. I swear I saw the Colts 1st team members shaking their heads at the Bill's players when they busted their butts off on a play exactly like they would in a "real game". Like what do you think you are doing? I'm not sure how this will translate to the real season when everyone on the opposition is going full out, but the Bills looked like a well coached machine playing a stray group of guys playing pick up ball. I can't help but be excited if they continue this effort and discipline, but it is hard to judge the real talent of our guys when they are not facing a team that seems to really care or to really be trying. I hope we face a team with a winning playoff philosophy in preseason to find out. I hope they are for real. I do know I really like the coaching so far.

Salary Cap thread updated 4 times a day
simpleman replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A question to all those knowledgeable fans. When we talk about a yearly cap, what is the time frame, how is it determined? Is it an average, a median of spending over the whole season, a maximum fixed dollar trigger point reached? Is there a specific target date? Is it by the end of the year, the Superbowl, the last game of the season, some other date during the season etc.? -
Byrd Skipping mandatory mini-camp
simpleman replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As others have said "What contract?" We normal guys don't get contracts, or big bucks. We bust our butts working for the man day to day doing what we have to to survive. We have no choice but to constantly bend over and take it regularly. Our true relationship with our employer is, and has always been " bend over and take it, or I'll be seeing you as I drive past outside the welfare office or notice the cardboard box you are living in under the bridge". It does not matter how hard you work or how much education you have, that is the way it is in our country and our world for normal working people. Most people don't even have the luxury of belonging to a strong union and working under "contracts" that give us any rights or say about our job except the right to bend over and take it, or else ..."poof".
