Good point. I never thought about this. There is good news! If the team is sold to new owners who decide to keep the Bills in the area, the new owners will have no history with or loyalty to anyone in the coaching staff or current management. They will be purging the chaff in the organization, and bringing in their own people. Everyone in management is in jeopardy. A management team with a 20 year history of incompetence and futility will finally be disbanded, and a new day will dawn!

So you don’t choose OTs in round 1 of the draft? Just the facts, not just opinions. Thank You Sir, you are walking the walk and backing up the talk. Although most are projected as shifting to guard, or are currently injured, they are the possibilities. Maybe not "damn good", but potential players. Although different mocks show a portion of them going late 2nd. Of them only James & Richardson seems to be better projected at tackle. I would not have a problem with Moses in the 2nd. He has "damn good" tackle potential. Although I have seen a couple of mocks where he goes late first.
-
I do follow OTs, and players, and draft projections. And EVERY expert has not said there will be "damn good" RTs available in the 3rd. If you make wild statements as facts you should be prepared to back them up, not wimp out and say EVERYONE just knows. Anyone can talk the talk, serious students of the game back up their opinions with solid facts and walk the walk.
-
I keep asking this and listing who is probable as being available in the 3rd. Who is that "damn good RT"? What OT is projected to be there in the 3rd? Not a G or C, but a "damn good" RT? And if you believe that LG has been addressed in FA with an actual quality player (not a bottom rated player who has never produced at a higher level), I suppose you thought it was addressed successfully last year too by the Bills management. How did that work out? How does that reflect on rating the quality of judgement by management on OL talent?

I am not a laywer, but I am a snowbird. To my knowledge, NYS does not recognize anything called "dual state residency". If you own property in the state, have a business, or even visit your family here on a regular basis, if you a substantial interest here, you are a resident. If you are a NYS resident you must pay taxes here. You can not choose which state you choose to pay taxes in if you spend time in NYS. There is no 50% 50% choice.

If We Pass on Ebron .... We Will Regret it
simpleman replied to TheBackupQB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you are just really looking for a big, strong WR, and calling him a TE, then Ebron might be your pick. Not sure I would want him with a #9, but in a trade down mid round #1 situation he might be OK. I would rather get a big TE who can catch in traffic and block for CJ and Fred (and his future replacement). I would much prefer a TE who also is a serious blocker like Niklas or ASJ in the 2nd , or even CJ Fiedorowicz in the 3rd or 4th , and spend my first on OT. Our real need position is OL. Late 1st and 2nd round still gives you top quality OL talent. There is a major drop after that. -
Why? Because New York did not pay more in taxpayer "tribute" to rich movie companies than Ohio did? Yeah , good old free loading, er "free enterprise".

Why Not Kick The Tires with Josh Freeman?
simpleman replied to patfitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree on this, at a low contract with a minimum guarantee, a prove it one year contract. Why not a performance based contract with major incentives. Let him challenge for backup. How can you even compare him to Tuel? And the upside is high if he gets his head together. I would not write him off yet. He still might flourish in the right conditions. A low risk, high reward signing if he works out is a win win. -

Any links to prove this or you are just smearing. How do you know they were factual and accurate? Proof? -
I listed this in another thread. Everyone keeps talking about getting a OT in later rounds. Let's get real here. Unless someone shockingly falls, the OTs will be gone in the 2nd. Player rankings: Billy Turner North Dakota State 3 JaWuan James Tennessee 3-4 Cameron Fleming Stanford 4 James Hurst North Carolina 4 Charles Leno Boise State 5 Other than James, none intrigue me as possible starters this year. And he just intrigues, not impresses.

FanSpeak's "On The Clock" - Try Drafting
simpleman replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Off course we all know it is just a draft simulator. You do understand, we just didn't make these up from a wish list. Anything is possible. Remember before the draft, any sensible, knowledgeable draft mock would not have shown Glenn falling to the Bills in the 2nd. But he did. Many on TBD wanted the Bills to draft him in the 1st. And 3 weeks before last years draft, how many expected Geno Smith to fall all the way to the 39th pick of the 2nd round? -

Just had to post this after recent FA moves. I know this is not realistic, but wow, look at this 5 round draft! Using Walter board. Think if EJ can play even average we could have a playoff chance with this lineup? 9 DE JADEVEON CLOWNEY SOUTH CAROLINA 41 OT CYRUS KOUANDJIO ALABAMA 73 ILB SHAYNE SKOV STANFORD 109 G ANTHONY STEEN ALABAMA 149 TE C.J. FIEDOROWICZ IOWA -
I don’t know where this belief comes from that there are going to be all those decent Oline players available “in the later rounds”. After the 2nd, here are your choices in rounds 3-5. None of them scream anything like starter, much less “sure thing” to me. If you want a decent chance at a starter, you need to grab them 1st or 2nd round. To me either one of the big two at 9, if one of them surprisingly drops. Or you get yours in the 2nd. Billy Turner North Dakota State 3 JaWuan James Tennessee 3-4 Cameron Fleming Stanford 4 James Hurst North Carolina 4 Charles Leno Boise State 5

Unless we see one of the top two OTs drop to us, I see a trade for the Cleveland 26 our best option. We get their 2nd, maybe a 4th and a higher round. They have the extra pics to make it work for them. We get OL in the 1st. A TE and LB in the 2nd. The rest of the draft we get BPA at need.
-
I know mock drafts don't mean much, the only one that counts is the real one. But the the OL players that actually are good bets keep creeping up the boards in the mocks. After the early 3rd few have any talent left at OL, and most of those players used to be comfortably 3rd or 4th.

Is Stevie expendable now that we got Williams?
simpleman replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, not knocking Stevie, he is a good player. But his contract is too bloated for his talent. It would have to be a very stupid GM to trade for his contract, and other than former Bills GMs, there are not that many stupid GMs out there. Stevie should just stay here this year considering his contract.Next year is a different story, but deal with it then, not now. -
Is Stevie expendable now that we got Williams?
simpleman replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This sounds like a real offense. Woods, Stevie and Williams with Goodwin the deep threat. The rest of the WRs really are just filler. If Williams can keep it together and we get a TE who can catch AND be a blocker for our great RBs, we have our offense. Add that TE in the 2nd or 3rd and upgrade the OLine in the draft and we have our offense settled. Next year is the year it makes sense to deal with the keeping Stevie issue, not this year. -

New Stadium or Retrofitting the Ralph?
simpleman replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The issues are simply 1.) What are the legitimate football needs of a stadium to host 8 regular games a year and someday hopefully a couple of playoff games (And a few preseason games.) ? 2.) What are the legitimate financial needs (related to stadium facilities) of the new owner to make it profitable enough to keep the Bills in Buffalo and not move the team ? I think you have to ask yourself exactly why do we need a new stadium? What is lacking in the current stadium that will make it profitable enough for the new owner to not move the team? Will improving the stadium facilities bring in enough more fans (hence the dollars they spend) to justify the expense? If there is a need for more mass transit to the stadium for only a dozen or so days a year, would it not be better to simply spend more on buses and adding routes and more buses for those few days a year, than hundreds of millions to build a new stadium? ( Who knows, if transportation is a major issue, might it not be a more efficient expenditure of public tax monies to simply provide free park and ride shuttle service from points in Buffalo, NF and Rochester 8 times a year?) Building up the cities of Buffalo or Niagara Falls are separate issues from keeping the Bills in WNY. Don’t confuse them. They have nothing to do with football needs and issues. -
Astro's Value Board - 40 days to go
simpleman replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are right. I would be very happy with the new mock. I do not get the selection of Martavis Bryant, WR over Donte Moncrief, WR in the 3rd. But I admit I have not seen enough of Bryant to see why he would be rated over Moncrief. I really like what I have seen of Moncrief. -
Astro's Value Board - 40 days to go
simpleman replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You do realize that both Lawson and Rivers both are among the lowest rated LBs in the league? Neither negate the need for getting a true every down linebacker. Both are simply depth. Getting Rivers in FA changes nothing, his benefits are questionable. We can always hope for a miracle, and have nothing turn into something, but the odds are not good. Luckily he is dirt cheap. And as much as Lawson fills a need, again he is not great at anything. You need a quality all down LB opposite Kiko to have a playoff team. And while Schwartz's defense may not require the versatility of Pettine, he still requires more flexibility than a rigid moribund defense like a Wannie defense would. -
Astro's Value Board - 40 days to go
simpleman replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to disagree on this. The word is versatility. Spikes is a situational only player. He stinks at pass coverage and is a huge liability in any downs that end up being a pass situation. I agree he is killer in run coverage, which we need. But he is very one dimensional. Not knocking his signing, he fills a need, but is a specialist for specific down situations only. We need to develop an ALL AROUND LB to go with Kiko. It makes a flexible defensive scheme vulnerable when you have too many specialists and not enough all around good players. It is too easy for a good OC to catch the defense in the wrong setting otherwise. Spikes, Hughes, Searcy and too many others on the team are specialists. Very good at one thing, but a very big liability if the play ends up not needing the special skills they have. We need versatile players if we are going to have flexible, dynamic defensive schemes, or we will get continually stung with big plays. Just like the other discussion of Skov, even at TE you need versatility. Not only do we need a big body with good hands to catch , we also need a versatile TE who can block well for a run. And we have two great RBs to run if we only give them the help they need to get started. -

I know we have had this discussion before. We agree on the needs. Just not the importance of meeting the need for DE so early. Drafting Scott Crichton in the 2nd when we have much greater needs at ILB,TE, RT and G seems a folly to me. And I don't even see Crichton as particularly worthy of a 2nd round pick. Our needs for DE are later in the draft and not as pressing. I would be very disappointed with the results of the latest mock draft.
