Low Country Boil. Easy, good outdoor fun, or indoor in the winter. Simple ingredients: Potatoes/sausage/ corn on cob/shrimp/onion/lemon in Old Bay seasoning. There are others I do that are more complicated, but I've never lost on this one.

The issue in Florida has never been the temperature. Many places have higher temperatures. It is the dew point, which is a measure of moisture in the air, and it is extremely high during the late spring and summer months. Dew points above 63 get uncomfortable, and Florida's dew points are outrageously high.

Low country boil is perfect for Memorial Day. So is the 15 hour pork shoulder on the Primo XL. Alas, neither is happening here, as my kid is going to come over and do his chicken thing on the grill. So.....Instead of being a grill maestro, I'll be reduced to a "side."

I have a couple of memories/experiences at the Niagara Falls airport. They had a National Guard squadron there that would host me when I was flying in the Navy. When visiting my family, and later when I was dating a Buffalo gal, I would fly there and they would let me park on their ramp. One time, over Christmas holiday, and a week before starting a carrier deployment, I went there with the knowledge that there was a strong snow forecast during the two day period I would be there. Got the OK from the National Guard unit that they would store the airplane in their hangar for the two days. When I landed, late on a Friday, they said they would tow it in on Sat. When I called on Sunday, it had not been towed and was told it had quite a bit of snow on it. Since I was leaving the next day it had to be cleaned up. I got a call at home from some junior watch officer who told me that they had a holiday schedule, and my airplane was not going to be dealt with, and that whomever I talked to wasn't there and my concerns didn't matter. Called back to my west coast squadron. We were leaving for a WestPac cruise aboard Kitty Hawk, and the airplane needed to be back within 48 hours to be prepared for carrier deployment. Anyway, calls were made and I got a call at home that the airplane would be ready for my desired departure time. The other time was more fun. Again, dating a girl from Buffalo, so I was home for the weekend. When I got to the base operations at Niagara Falls on Sunday morning to fly home, there were two other military planes preparing. One was an Air Force T-37, which is a tiny twin engine primary trainer, and the other was a T-2, a Navy basic jet trainer. The National Guard guy who handled our flight plans kind of challenged us to a takeoff competition. I was flying an A-4 Superfox, with the Pacific Fleet Adversaries, and it was really overpowered. Anyway, with family and girlfriend witnessing this, along with the folks from the other two airplanes we agreed. T-37 takes off, does about a 50 degree angle climb and off he goes. Navy T-2 does a little better, but still nothing impressive. I take off, get the gear up at about five feet and level off, hit 320 knots at the end of the runway, and pull to the pure vertical. At about 1000' I did a four point roll, where you roll 90 degrees and stop. Did it four times for the full 360 and I was into the overcast. Tower says, "nice takeoff," and I replied that if anyone complained, (aerobatics in civilian airspace are prohibited), I noticed a flock of birds and had to avoid them.

The comet was overrated. Like the Texas saying.....all hat, no cattle. The wild mouse was the real deal, and ski ball.....Who could forget ski ball? Those summer nights.......... That aside, I still liked Sherkston better.

I think it's a good idea. Now, instead of having to bribe people, falsely claim to being a row crew athlete or paying someone to take the SAT for you, all you have to do is get an address in a bad neighborhood to give your kid that extra advantage. Much less risk of persecution, and a lot cheaper.

And by the way, and you didn't hear it from me.... Marv Levy used to always "challenge Jim Ritcher to get bigger or end his career. There would be a weigh in at the start of camp/OTA's whatever. They would allow you to wear a baseball hat at the weigh in. Jim's wife used to sew weights into the baseball hat to get Jim a few extra pounds.

Jim Ritcher was simply not big enough to have the impact to make the HOF, but he certainly made the best of what physical stature he had.

Its a change in the deployment location for Lincoln. It was operating in the Med and will head east, probably to the Red Sea and east. Stennis was in the area recently. Stennis and Lincoln are changing homeports after their current deployments, Stennis from Bremerton Wa. to Norfolk for maintenance/nuclear refueling, and Lincoln from Norfolk to San Diego, so Lincoln would eventually transit the Indian Ocean anyway, but this is a change.

Inkjet printer replacement cartridges. Insanely overpriced to the point where some printer manufacturers lose money on the printer because they know they'll make a bunch on the replacement cartridges. If one gets "low" and low isn't really that low, the printer becomes dysfunctional until all are replaced. Not difficult at all to get around the issue, depending on the type of printer. Easy to find solution at a fraction of the cost.

Ya. Like the the overwhelming majority of people here who have lived here for generations and don't give a rip. Never bothered anybody before. Get that? Overwhelming majority.

I live in Charlottesville, and the entire process is ridiculous, and the entire issue deserves not one bit of attention. A group of lunatics drove here and tried to do something. Local people objected and one of them got killed. A guy is serving a life sentence for that. The statues are very nice, have been here for ages, and offend no normal person. My proposal was to rename them. Just name them monuments to guys on horses and be done with it. This entire episode is totally wasteful and ridiculous. Interesting, but almost everyone who was in office when this happened is gone. city manager, police chief and a bunch of others.

"Farms" aside, and I can't believe the solar yield in Western NY justifies the cost without some other influence, on a domestic basis it's simple cost vs benefit. I've been following this industry for years. The house I currently had built and live in has a garage that points true south, the roof is stressed for solar panels and the slope is very close to our latitude, which is what you want. The stressing only required additional joists bonded together, and I think it only cost me a few hundred bucks. The issue is that absent government incentives, which have diminished significantly, it still isn't worth it from a purely financial standpoint. I built a 30x40 barn last year, and even with minimal electrical requirements, it is still more efficient to purchase a very small gas generator rather than solar power the thing.

Many considerations. First, you say it has no access or frontage. I assume you mean by road. That means that if anyone was to build on it, they would require an easement, which is a huge negative. What about zoning? Is it possible to develop? Of so, how many units/lot size requirements? You may plan to use it for your enjoyment, but such a consideration impacts value considerably. If used strictly for farming, what is the tree situation? How about grade/slope/drainage/soil condition issues? What local crops are grown successfully, and what is a reasonable price to expect? When those questions are answered, I would start at looking at local farmland sales, if there are any, and I'd look at what the owner paid and subtract a reasonable amount for the house, adjust for time of ownership, and come up with a starting offer. If you plan on doing some kind of agriculture on it yourself, spend the necessary time researching the amount of work that takes based on the specific crop, the equipment you'll need, if aggressive preventive spraying is needed and the tax consequences. Some localities will provide a significant tax break if the land is in agricultural use but may require an income producing crop to justify it. I own 30 acres in wine country here, so I have run a commercial vineyard for twelve years. It is extremely labor intensive from March through mid Sep. Much more than I thought when I constructed it, and doing things at specific times is not an option. The county requires proof of sales to justify my tax credit, and the credit is significant. If you are doing some agriculture on it, refi options are greatly limited since 2008. Anyway, lots to consider. Good luck.
