Fool's errand to directly link economics with politics. There is no capital shortage. There is no labor shortage. There is no exigent condition, like energy, that threatens growth. Labor pressures will be handled, largely, by productivity increases. The world is in a growth vector, from the emerging economies up to and through the G7. Enjoy it. It will slow down.

What's the old aphorism? "Economists exist to make astrology look good." Or... "Economists predicted 25 or the last 5 recessions."
-
If you're concerned about inflation, make money off it. You can buy TBT, which essentially shorts the US 20 year+ Treasuries. Easy money if you're right.

I really wonder where you get this crap. "The worst situation in economic history?" I'm guessing you pay no attention to people who actually run businesses in the US. CNBC has them on everyday. They have a completely different view than you express, but what do they know, since they're actual fiduciaries running businesses? I have no idea how old you are, but you are destined for failure unless you figure things out.

Be careful with your terms here. Of course the economy never grew at 3% in a quarter during Obama. That would be a 12% annualized growth rate. Further, posting annualized growth rates per quarter is based on multiplying the quarterly growth rate by four, another inaccurate way to consider growth, since quarterly growth rates vary for a considerable number of reasons.

Anyone familiar with San Fran Bay Area?
sherpa replied to Fadingpain's topic in Off the Wall Archives
And selling into that market can set you up for a long time. The "Bay Area" is a really complex market. Peninsula, Marin, north over the Bay bridge, or further north over the Golden Gate towards Petaluma and Santa Rosa. Very different weather over small geographical distances, and very different commute. The City is a completely different environment, and not something I would buy in to. The East Bay gets progressively cheaper as you get into Central Valley weather and commute difficulty. If I was forced to live there, at least in the East Bay, I would purchase a bit west of my employment, so I was driving east in the morning and west on the way home. Nothing turns me off more than wasting my life in traffic. We chose Benicia for our first home, and enjoyed it, but I was only driving into work once per week. -
Neil Diamond: Parkinson's Diagnonsis/Immediate Retirement

Little known fact. Neil Diamond and Barbara Streisand were in the same choral group in Brooklyn in high school. -
Ronald McNair, Mission Specialist was on Challenger. It is preposterous to claim racism here. NASA, with a really limited budget spends a fortune on training. Absolutely no way they did this without cause.

Twenty six years and one day ago, a new strategy of warfare was introduced, and we are never going back.

Republican Tax Plan (a nothingburger with cheese)
sherpa replied to Tiberius's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Dead wrong. There is nothing in Carter's economic performance that indicated any wisdom on economics. No economic skill. No military skill. No political skill. Cost us money. Cost us lives. Cost us prestige. -
Republican Tax Plan (a nothingburger with cheese)

Not to quibble, but Paul Volcker at the independant Fed is far more responsible than Reagan. While it happened on Reagan's watch, the Volcker recession, brought about by keeping rates that the Fed could control high, is what changed the course. Reagan constantly fought for spending cuts, and didn't get them, resulting in his repeated calls for the line item veto. To get his military budgets approved, he signed off on increased spending. He had the right idea, but Volcker was the single cause of the end of Jimmy Carter's "misery index." -
Republican Tax Plan (a nothingburger with cheese)

After a good long time in this country, this economy, this political system and this media system, I have come to one undeniable conclusion. The Democratic party will never be exposed for its bad ideas, bad history, bad plans and bad performance. They will continue to exist and thrive because they play to very basic human views. Someone is screwing you. Your problems are not of your own doing, and I can help you by legally stealing from the bad people who are succeeding. It's not you....It's them. And to inoculate myself, I am no Trump supporter. That was Ford. -
Really good weather. Really good geography. Unbelievably stupid government being run by unbelievably stupid people. The bottom claim trumps the top two. An idiotic situation, the evidence of which is the amount of human urine and excrement on the streets of San Francisco, the town that I dated and married my wife.

They tried that with me for two years. I left after living there for 13 years. A year after leaving, they billed me for that full calendar your of income taxes, plus penalties. I told them I sold my house and there were countless real estate records available, per their code, to prove that. They demanded my current states income tax return, my full IRS return with all schedules, and said they would continue to assess penalties until I paid. I sent them the required returns, at great waste of time and expense. Three months later, I was on a trip and they called and informed my wife the new tax levy plus penalty, which amounted to a very significant sum of money. My wife was in a tizzy. I called Sacramento and spent three hours talking to them. Finally, I got to one guy who said "Oh yea, we got all that and you're off the hook," or words to that effect. I asked him why he didn't inform me of that weeks ago, and he said "We don't inform individuals when their appeals are approved, only when they're not." Can't stand the place.

The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency
sherpa replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It's what they have after an impeachment primary. It will take some time for Ms. Clinton to designate the winner though, so we have some time. My suggestion would be to hold the primary during the Pro Bowl, because nobody on earth watches that. -
You clearly know that I am talking about accusing him of treason based on his behavior as a POW. Frankly, I am not interested in this "boot" vector.
-
He is certainly not a hero, but neither is he guilty of treason. Jeremiah Denton and James Stockdale were heroes. Calling him a hero is an overstatement. Calling him treasonous is contemptible.
-
And they would be just that......"Made Up."
-
I think the attempted sullying of McCain with regard to his POW experience is contemptible.

Oprah's becoming a Republican? -
I'm here to learn. Just hadn't heard of that one, and who knows?
-
Oh. Since there is no such command, I was wondering who you meant.
-
What exactly is "US air command?"
