How about inserting E J for a few plays?
Uncle Monkeyhead replied to ShelfromNJ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No one said start him. Throw him in for a couple plays a game. Different look, give a DC something else to game plan for, even if you don't use it much or if at all. Two times we were blowing out the jets, it wouldn't hurt a thing.....but it throws more at the opponent to counter act and work on with his players during practice. That's all. Didn't feel like we were "winning and in playoff run" when we lost to KC and Miami. Both these teams and Denver had it easy defending a one dimensional Kyle Orton -

Well kudos to the OP for getting others to reply. I brought this up a couple weeks ago in two other threads about the suckitude of our O....I had zero replies My point was with a supposedly "do whatever it takes to win" and "innovative OC" that they have had weeks to work on a few plays to keep the other D on their toes. It doesn't take a DC much to game plan for Kyle Orton, which leaves them more time to gameplan against Freddy, Sammy, etc. what's wrong with giving a DC one more thing to prepare for? EJ was touted as a mobile QB, and he's 6-4, 240. I mean, hell, we sure could have used a wrinkle when Miami, KC, and Denver were sending the house on pass plays knowing Kyke was a sitting duck. -

No one is surprised there's hype, it's the amount of hype and how it's generated by the league and media, not by the fans. I think there was a poll after the Bills game and I'm pretty sure the fan voting was in favor of Hoyer (at the time I looked at it it was). But the media relentlessly pushed on. And the top plays segments would feature his TD run and not even acknowledge Hughes undeniably better play in that game. That's league and media infused hype, not fan hype. That's what many don't like about it. Even if he becomes a HOF QB, the hype is way over the top this early.

I had a possible solution to our offensive woes a couple weeks ago. All this time EJ's been on the bench, our innovative OC should have been creating/devising plays that would have EJ in on certain downs. Hear me out....kind a like a pseudo-wildcat. Before you laugh and say no way, tell me, what is wrong with giving an opposing DC something else to prepare for? Because all they need to do is 10 minutes of film time on Orton and the rest of the time they were free to work on our Sammy, or other aspects of our offensive schemes. And all they had to do was bring the house after Orton; he was no threat. You can't tell me that that would be any worse than what we've had offensively. EJ was drafted as a dual threat; his mobility was touted and he'll he's 240 pounds, 6 foot 5. If you were truly fighting for your job as a head coach you would think you would try something.....anything....what's wrong with my suggestion?

He made it on NFLN Plays of the Week but Hughes trifecta while being held didn't. And in the debate about who should start next week, they totally ignore his questionable decision to try to throw after the bad snap and Kyle in his face which should have resulted in another defensive TD. I think if that was Hoyer, he would have had enough experience to just take the sack that close to the end zone. -
This weeks TMQ mentions Hughes' great play and Gray's huge 3rd down conversion. And no mention of Manziel http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/story?storyPage=TMQWeekThirteen141202

Intentional grounding. The first word of the rule is the one they are saying "doesn't matter". Ridiculous

Why are we so down?
Uncle Monkeyhead replied to Chi-town Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I didn't say I bilieved it, but said it is possible. Anything can happen in the NFL. But to say this team has no pride or passion? They certainly do, if you watch this D and there are some on offense that play above their expected abilities. Another thing, this is not the same team that started the playoff drought. There's not one player on the roster from the team that started losing. It's like saying they never won in Chicago before this last time. It's not the same team. -

Hey who knows. Maybe this rough spot is just what this coaching staff and our offense needs....a major MAJOR kick in the ass..... If this team truly is a playoff team, then from the next game going forward, they should win all of them, right? I mean seriously....if this team plays like every game is their last....maybe...just maybe they answer the bell and win out. Green Bay....Denver.....New England........they can all lose and why not have it be at the hands of a desperate, wounded animal like the Bills? Let's see what this team is really made of. That's......why they play the games. -

Why is Leodis, of all people, mouthing off?
Uncle Monkeyhead replied to Uncle Monkeyhead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Leodis was in a position to make a tackle and got juked out of his cleats.....that's why he hurt his ankle. Wonder if he talks trash about the Jets this week....I mean, hey, he has every reason to say we'll "beat that a$$" since we did it earlier. Carry on Leodis. -
Offense is TOO predictable. At the slightest pressure, they know Orton will not move at all. KC figured this out too. Sammy does you no good if the defense rushes everyone because Orton will always be a sitting duck for the taking and he'll throw it away low or just take a sack. There's no threat of QB movement or roll out at all. This is easy to defend. If I were Marrone, I would have put time in over the bye to bring EJ in on a handful of plays....use him as that mobile threat to keep the kitchen sink D at bay at times. Can you imagine the confusion on D if EJ comes in ala pseudo-wildcat?? Hey....before you flame away, tell me....could it be any worse for the offense than what we trotted out there the last couple games?? They'd have to pause a bit to defend it. What the hell....anything should be on the table with the coaching staff's jobs and the no playoffs on the line.

5-4 and on verge of missing the playoffs for his entire career. Yeah. Carry on -
I highly recommend the younger generation on TBD to check out the Earl Campbell AFL on NFL Network. I watched last night and quickly remembered why he was my all-time favorite non-Bill RB. His play was made for slow mo NFL Films. Watching him destroy tacklers and literally leave them aching on the field in his tracks. The guy was a legend. Watching tacklers hang on for dear life while his jersey ripped off his body (at least two highlights showed this). He was my generation's Jim Brown. If you get a chance, record and watch this episode.
