The Steelers do just fine with a terrible offensive line. We could, obviously, upgrade at the LT position, but we have such glaring issues at cornerback (no 6'2''+ guy) and outside linebacker that we can't take a LT. I like Adams and Kalil, but we have far bigger needs.
-
They'll most likely re-sign him, but if he were to go into free agency, there's no chance he'd sign with Buffalo. Chicago and Cincy both could use a WR and are winning teams.

Gotta Love The Unions And The Supervisors
ny33 replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The real issue is that most service jobs, and a lot of jobs in general, have become redundant with advances in technology. It's better to keep people employed than doing nothing, but the fact is that we have a lot of redundant employment. -
Yeah, but look at the success Mike McCarthy, Mike Tomlin and Sean Payton have had. They are, easily, three of the top five head coaches in the league, and have won the last few Super Bowls between them.
-
There's a difference between being "broke" and being over the cap, but I digress. Anyway, the Colts owe Peyton a $28 million dollar bonus that kicks in before free agency, which they almost certainly will not pay. Manning will either retire or have his contract restructured. They will be able to keep Mathis, but I suspect that they are going to start shredding the older players to rebuild around Luck.
-
The Colts aren't broke, and Luck won't cost, relatively, that much for a #1 overall pick. Mathis will likely leave, but that has nothing to do with the team's finances.

Signing Merriman, Letting Spiller Run Wild...
ny33 replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Jets don't pay LT much, and he'll be gone next year. Scott is old enough to get significant guaranteed money. They'll be ok with the cap, I think, unlike Green Bay- who will have to give up one of their wideouts or Finley- or Baltimore, which has to pay Ray Rice and others. -
What matters is that, if we hadn't traded Lynch, we'd still have two quality RBs (Jackson and Lynch) plus a first round pick from last year that would've been used at a position other than RB.
-
I've never understood why people are opposed to paying market price for quality players. Stevie will get $8-9 million per year, as you've said, because that's what the market dictates. Since we are usually so far under the cap, anyway, I have no idea why people are opposed to spending the 1-2 million more than he's worth. We'd be in shambles at the WR position without SJ.

Thigpen has had enough playing time this year to prove that he's not a serviceable starter. Keep playing Fitz. -

I don't think Dwan Edwards gets enough credit on this board. In my opinion, he's an average starting DE. We need two solid OLBs before another DE, in my opinion. Honestly, this team would be better off in a 4-3, but that probably won't happen. Either way, here's to hoping we get Upshaw, and that he ends up being the next Orakpo. -
Bills would draft 12th if season ended today

We're very unlikely to draft in the top 5. -
Bills would draft 12th if season ended today

Ahh, my error; I thought it was head-to-head as the first qualifier, then strength of schedule. From what I recall, we are somewhere in the middle of strength of schedule as of last week. -

He's also been the head of an extremely successful private equity firm. Romney is not a career politician. -

Tampa has a tough schedule and will win, at most, one more game (against Carolina). They'll draft ahead of us. Jacksonville will likely win one more game, against Indianapolis; I'm not sure how things would stand if we both have 5 wins at the end of the season. Carolina will finish with 5 wins, and only if they beat Tampa. New Orleans won't rest their starters. That means at least one of those two teams will, most likely, draft after we do. Philadelphia wins at least one more; there's the possibility of two if they can beat Dallas. Kansas City probably lose out, looking at their schedule; even if they were to win a game, they'd draft ahead of us because of the head-to-head matchup. Cleveland has a shot on the road at Arizona, but I think they lose that game. I can see them upsetting Pittsburgh if the Steelers rest their starters, particularly Big Ben. Sadly, they'll likely draft ahead of us. I think we beat Miami and get trounced in our final two games. Sadly, this means we'll draft around 9-12. For those of you interested in drafting a QB: Indianapolis and Washington will definitely pick Luck and the second-best prospect. Between them, Kansas City, Miami, and Cleveland will draft one, maybe two QBs- this is if the position has enough players worthy of the top 10. Buffalo won't be drafting a first-round QB. Hopefully we get the best front seven player available, as I doubt one of the two quality receivers (Jeffery and Blackmon) will be available. I don't like Michael Floyd; he's the type of guy with character issues who would be a bad fit in Buffalo and wouldn't want to play for the Bills. -
What other head coaches get fired this year?
ny33 replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this is fairly accurate, though I think Reid might be fired. Did you catch the Kevin Kolb interview where he basically said that the Eagles were using the same signals for plays, and he was able to tell the Cardinals what Reid would run? -
I agree with this. Is it really so unreasonable to expect people to make some effort in forming coherent sentences and paragraphs? The occasional typo or punctuation error (commas outside of quotation marks, etc.) are fine, but reading a post like this is just tough on the eyes.

THIS is proof that coaching matters in the NFL
ny33 replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have average personnel at most positions besides, as you mentioned, OLB. That being said, we don't have anything close to the elite talent that those teams do. Houston, San Francisco, and Dallas all have top-five players at multiple positions. Buffalo's only players with that kind of talent are Barnett, Williams, and potentially Dareus. That's a huge difference. Edit: Misspelled "Dareus" as "Darius." -
Commentators: Best and Worst...
ny33 replied to Buffalo Beeeews's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you really think Joe Buck is the best commentator, or is this post sarcastic? He is an arrogant fool. I can't stand him. -
I'm more worried about losing SJ in free agency and not making an effort at all in free agency. Sadly, this is exactly what will happen.

Metal Detector Screening to Begin this Weekend

Ehh, I think they have good reason to implement metal detectors league-wide considering the recent stabbing/shooting incidents. -
Somebody needs to be held accountable

I don't believe in forced sterilization, but a lot of countries offer incentives for sterilization. Rajasthan, in India, recently began offering cars in exchange for sterilization; various other states in India, which has a massive overpopulation problem, have begun similar campaigns in the last decade. They've been successful; states like Kerala have cut population growth to effectively zero. Unfortunately, the U.S. doesn't have the balls to implement similar programs. -

Incidents like these make me amazed at people who are opposed to abortion and birth control. Most abortions happen in low-income, unemployed "families"- often single mothers- and those kids end up going nowhere. Abortion is, unfortunately but effectively, population control for the children of degenerates. -
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/09/business/how-a-financial-pro-lost-his-house.html?pagewanted=all Read the above article for a great take on the nature of mortgages during the bust. The Times profiled a guy- a financial adviser, mind you- who says, verbatim: "We borrowed 100 percent of the purchase price. In fact, I was told I could borrow even more if I wanted. I had perfect credit and a solid income that was growing. But even so, when the lender approved us at 100 percent, it was more than I had expected. I remember thinking something like “Wow. I guess if they’re willing to lend it to us it must be O.K. I should have known better. No matter how well things are going, borrowing 100 percent of the purchase price of a home is not a good idea." I apologize for not using a block quotation above, as the formatting of the message board did not allow me to use proper spacing. Anyway, on point: this guy basically is admitting that he knew the mortgage was unreasonable for him, and others in his community to take. He had no problem taking the mortgage, though, just so he could own a house. Were banks predatory and perhaps expecting the majority of loans given to fail? Yes, of course. Were there scumbags like Angelo Mozilo who gave favorable, possibly illegal rates to guys like Chris Dodd and collected outrageous golden parachutes after being forced out? Sadly, there were. But the bottom line is this: if people were too stupid to not realize the massive risk they were taking by accepting mortgages they couldn't afford, they deserved what was coming for them. If you don't take the time to do the math on the most important financial investment you have to make- your mortgage- then, no, you really shouldn't be thinking about buying that $400,000 house on a $40,000 salary. People brought the mortgage crisis on themselves.
