Cleveland wouldn't trade their franchise LT for a 31-year-old RB coming off an injury. -

No. Merriman is a DE in our defense.

There's a reason Indy re-signed Wayne. They're not trading him, and no team is offering a 3rd or 4th. -
Why would Florence be worth a 4th or 5th when Asante Samuel is only a 7th? I know Samuel's contract is bad, but Florence isn't cheap, either, and certainly the worse of the two.

Tim Graham back to sports desk at News

Yeah, he was a great fit with ESPN. He's still the best source on Twitter for Bills news; I hope he keeps up on that platform, as he and Stevie Johnson are the only Bills-related people I follow. -
Jags release Drew Colemen - would be a good pickup for the Bills
ny33 replied to dogma+'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's hope Ron Brooks can keep doing that in Buffalo. -
McShay has 5 AFC playoff teams (no AFC West winner) and 7 NFC teams. That seems like quite the oversight.

In another year, I'd pick him up. This year, though, with the number of first and second-year players at the position (I'm counting Rogers), I think it's more important that Buffalo sees what we have in our crowded group of CBs. Competition is good, yes, but I think it's more likely that a team with a serious need at the position picks Coleman up. We probably wouldn't offer him anything close to what he can get from a more desperate team. -

New England Patriots: 13-3 Buffalo Bills: 8-8 New York Jets: 7-9 Miami Dolphins: 3-13 Baltimore Ravens: 11-5 Pittsburgh Steelers: 11-5 Cincinnati Bengals: 10-6 Cleveland Browns: 4-12 Houston Texans: 9-7 Tennessee Titans: 9-7 Jacksonville Jaguars: 6-10 Indianapolis Colts: 2-14 Denver Broncos: 11-5 Kansas City Chiefs: 8-8 San Diego Chargers: 7-9 Oakland Raiders: 5-11 Division Leaders: New England Patriots 13-3 Baltimore Ravens: 11-5 Denver Broncos: 11-5 Houston Texans: 9-7 Wildcards: Cincinnati and Pittsburgh This is conservative, as I have the same playoff teams as last year, even though there is normally significant turnover (4-6 new teams) in the playoffs from year-to-year. However, I think a 4-game leap for the Bills is a bit of a stretch, given that the team needs to gel and the brutal nature of the early schedule. Also, keep in mind the fact that we have struggled with divisional opponents; I think that will be the toughest thing for these Bills to overcome so soon. Most of the turnover will be from the NFC; I think the Giants and Saints are out, replaced by the Bears and Eagles. -

Martin has zero shot of making the team- I hope- since Ron Brooks and Nigel Bradham supposedly are extraordinary on special teams. -
Best secondary in NFL 2013 calln it now
ny33 replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't be absurd. Let's prove it on the field first. I am hopeful for the rookies we drafted, but it's ridiculously optimistic to project anything for our secondary, let alone that they'll be the best in the league. Blatant homerism is pointless and defeats the purpose of discussing the Bills from an objective perspective. -
I go to Brown, but don't really follow our football team at all and haven't heard of Alex, or any NFL prospects this year. That being said, congratulations to Alex on signing with the Bills. I'll try to find out some more information about him.

Since when has Kirk Cousins been advertised as a first-round pick? You are acting as if Cousins was a first-round talent who slipped to the fourth round. He's a mid-round talent with no guarantee of a third-round return in a trade, let alone a first.

Melvin Ingram

Please explain to me how the tenth overall pick is worth the seventeenth and twenty-first picks of the draft, yet the third pick is only worth the tenth and forty-first? That's absurd; Minnesota would want more, though I wouldn't ever trade up for a left tackle, especially considering #3 will probably cost two first rounders.
-
How many of last year's playoff teams, when they were drafting in the top ten over the last five or six years, have used a top ten pick on a LT? None. Andre Smith of the Bengals is the only player in last year's playoffs to have been a top ten pick on the offensive line, and he is a mediocre RT; he's certainly not the reason for Dalton's success. The Lions drafted players like Suh, Stafford, and Calvin Johnson. The Texans drafted on the defensive line- Okoye and Mario Williams; the time they drafted 11th overall, last year, they picked up the excellent J.J. Watt at defensive end. The Saints drafted Reggie Bush- a bust, but a key part of their system for years- and Sedrick Ellis, one of their better defensive linemen. The Broncos drafted Von Miller, a Pro Bowler and a key part of the defense that led them to a playoff spot last year. If you want to stretch this to the immediate area out of the top 12, you get guys like Ryan Clady, a Pro Bowl LT drafted by the Broncos at 12. He, however, is the exception, not the rule. The idea that Kalil is a "safe" pick is absurd; there is no such thing as a safe pick, and LT has proven to have a high bust rate, if anything; see the history of top ten LTs over the last six years. Good teams don't draft LTs in the top 10. They draft disruptive defensive players or playmakers/QBs on offense, and shore up their offensive line in the end of the first round when they make the playoffs (where a number of very good LTs have been drafted recently). I hope the Bills stay away from Kalil, let alone Reiff.
-
Cleveland and Miami are the best example for the fact that drafting a LT in the top 10 is foolish. Add Trent Williams (Redskins), Russell Okung (Seahawks), Jason Smith (Rams), Eugene Monroe (Jaguars), Levi Brown (Cardinals), and Robert Gallery (Raiders), to that list. Some of them have turned out to be good players. None of them play for perennial contenders. The best teams draft difference-makers in the top 10 if they get there. Winners don't draft LTs early on, but late in the first (if you're a winning team) or early in the second (if you're a losing team). Drafting Kalil over someone the Bills believe to be an impact player on the defensive line or receiver is foolish. Trading up for him- as some people have suggested- is idiotic.

Barron is more of an inside-the-box safety than Wilson or Byrd. Does anyone else think he could be used in three safety packages (like the one the Giants sometimes use), replacing one of the outside linebackers? Given how much we seem to be trying to emulate the Giants on defense, I can see this being the plan.
-
LaVonte David won't be available at 71. Don't be absurd. When did anyone say that Jenkins' character problems stemmed from his marijuana arrests? No one did. The issue with the guy- that separates him from Floyd- is that he was arrested for fighting. Jenkins also has four kids already, which is absurd. Dre Kirkpatrick was arrested on marijuana charges. I don't consider him to have character problems because of that arrest; that's as little of a concern for him as it is for Floyd. You're also delusional if you think Randle will be available in the 4th.

Let's hope we have a LB who can do a decent job of covering Gronkowski and Hernandez this year.
