What would you consider a "Successful Run"
ny33 replied to damaynman150's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For fans? Winning a Super Bowl. For owners: whatever makes a consistent profit; I think making the playoffs most years qualifies as that. -
If Buffalo is to become one of six afc playoff teams

We can't just replace the Broncos, given that they were a division winner... -

Keep in mind that we'd be replacing a wild card or the Patriots. Buffalo can't just take the spot of Denver or Houston, for example. In order to make the playoffs, we need 10 wins and a strong showing against our division rivals and other AFC teams. Hopefully the AFC North teams struggle outside of their division, with two of them struggling to get 9 wins. Our offense will struggle. -
Bills 3 double digit sack guys

Pierre-Paul has only had one year (2011) with double-digit sacks. -
Saints shouldn't give brees a long term deal

That's a common problem on the board. -
I think the Bills should sign Visanthe Shiancoe TE

Dallas Clark is done. -
There won't be one on the practice squad. If Powell is truly good enough to start in the NFL, another team with greater punting issues will snap him up. This will be an interesting positional battle.

Is it so difficult to use Google to see if Anderson had double "didget" sacks in another year? In 2006, his rookie year, Anderson had 12 sacks. -
Can you try that in English, please?

Matt Moore has been more impressive than Sanchez, at least from what I've seen. That being said, Sanchez might look better at the end of next season, given the Dolphins' loss of Brandon Marshall. Regarding the Jets' offensive line, Wayne Hunter is a serious question mark that Buffalo and New England don't have at any spot on their lines. The Jets may have the best o-lineman in the division in Mangold, but Hunter is bad enough- in combination with the Jets' weak running game, which may be a result of poor run-blocking- to put Buffalo ahead of NY.

Dansby is a solid player, and Burnett is at least as good as Morrison.
-
I think the Dolphins' passing attack will struggle without Brandon Marshall and a lack of QB consistency. That being said, Fasano certainly has a more consistent track record and had a better year than Chandler in 2011, so it's probably reasonable to put Miami ahead of Buffalo at TE.

Tashard Choice v. Johnny White
ny33 replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
White was incredibly unimpressive for a RB, especially considering the success that Jackson and Spiller had. I know he was a rookie, but running backs should- and do- come in to the NFL ready to produce at a relatively high level. Unless Choice slows down and White proves to the coaching staff that he will benefit greatly from having OTAs, White should be gone. I don't think his versatility in college translates to the NFL. -
QB • Patriots • Bills • Dolphins • Jets RBs • Bills • Dolphins • Jets • Patriots Offensive line • Patriots • Bills • Jets • Dolphins Tight ends • Patriots • Jets • Bills • Dolphins Wide receivers • Patriots • Bills • Jets • Dolphins Defensive line • Bills • Jets • Patriots • Dolphins Linebackers • Dolphins • Patriots • Jets • Bills CBs • Jets • Bills • Patriots • Dolphins Safeties • Bills • Jets • Dolphins • Patriots Punter • Dolphins • Bills • Patriots • Jets Kicker • New England • Miami • Buffalo • New York Return Teams- Kickoffs and Punts • Bills • Dolphins • Patriots • Jets Special Teams- Kickoff/Punting Unit • Dolphins • Patriots • Jets • Bills Obviously, this isn't the definitive measure of how competitive the team is- QB, for example, is significantly more important than, say, a kick-off unit- but the Bills appear to be top-two in most categories. Again, this is on paper, and when you consider the team's late-season and divisional struggles, particularly against the Jets, Buffalo needs to show something on the field before we can declare ourself best or second-best in the division. Either way, the team has clearly improved on the defensive line, special teams, and hopefully at CB.

How Many Bills Will Be Named to the Pro Bowl?
ny33 replied to WickedGame's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Three: Dareus, Levitre, Byrd. -
Tanney has shown nothing. You are crazy if you think that Tanney is "an instant up grade (sic)" from Thigpen. As for "& B . Smith make a trade for another pick," I have no idea what that statement is supposed to mean. Are you saying we should draft Brad Smith for a draft pick? I doubt the Bills would make such a move, especially considering his relative value to our system. Most teams wouldn't give up a 6th rounder for Smith; we're better off seeing how he does with another year on the team. I think Thigpen is gone, but Tanney, at this point, is far from being the #3.

If Sheppard goes down, I'd expect Barnett to shift back to MLB.

Has Another Team Improved More Than the Bills ?
ny33 replied to Owen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Offseason moves mean nothing until the season actually starts. What the Bills have done looks promising, but look at the Eagles last year, or the Giants and Packers' tendency to not make major offseason moves. I'm optimistic, but let's see what happens. -
Aaron Williams looks to have been a decent pick, so the team appear to have "hit" on the draft slot. Regarding Dalton, there was no guarantee he'd be a good player, and even still, I don't think his ceiling is very high. That's not to say that the Bengals made a bad pick- they made a great one- but we don't know what Dalton will turn out to be. Also, had Cam Newton been available, we would have drafted him instead of Dareus. By your logic, we should have drafted Blaine Gabbert instead of Dareus, if you are so insistent that the team needed a "franchise" QB. Be glad that we have Dareus instead of Gabbert, who was floated as an option for our first round pick last year. If Fitzpatrick fails this year, Buddy will draft a first round QB if he feels a good one is available. A fixation on drafting a QB means that you end up with players like Blaine Gabbert and Christian Ponder in the first round instead of drafting the best player available.
-
I'm not sure why that's "obvious." I watch ESPN and First Take pretty often. My point is that there is a reason ESPN employs Bayless; people are drawn to watching him to see his ridiculous points of view.
-
Bayless's job is to be controversial. I don't think he's an "idiot"; I think ESPN requires his opinions to be controversial.

Browns DT Phil Taylor possibly out for the season

Edwards is a DT in Cleveland's scheme. -
Thanks for this post, and thanks to eball for his previous ones as well. I think it's incredibly disparaging to players who aren't religious to automatically link being of faith- in one religion- to having good character; it implies that those who aren't religious lack a positive influence on the community.

The most interesting part of these lines- which will be very accurate for the regular season, as 7, 8, or 9 wins are likely for this team- is that Kansas City is a 2.5 point underdog, while Tennessee gets 3.5 points. Considering that we destroyed the Chiefs in Kansas City and lost to the Titans at home last year, you'd think the lines would favor the Titans more than the Chiefs. I guess Vegas is high on Kansas City this year, which makes sense since their roster is one of the best in the NFL outside of Matt Cassel. Vegas is usually pretty accurate with win projections. I think we can expect 7-9 wins, with a shot at 10 if we take care of the Jets (our greatest challenge in recent years). This is good news.
