Position differential is a huge factor here...identify the guy at the bottom of the top tier of players, sign him to a value deal. If your analytics say there is a drop off after the top x amount of guys, collect the guy at the bottom of that x for less. Run the analytics, sign the best value guy, and keep the leftover coin for other needs, whether that is retaining your own or spending on Revis or AP once they get released. That does not mean sign the cheapest guy, it means sign the last of the top tier guys. The guy that grades before the dropoff occurs.

Thurman the point I'm making here is that no GM ever right all the time. You institutionalize a process and trust it. Beerball is correct, these guys have played one year. Let's see how it shakes out over time.

Who cares about this? The team identified a player they wanted and moved to get him. What's the big deal? The team has to trust it's scouting. If they thought the player was going to be a game breaker, why not make the move? You cant live in fear of "what if". If you are convinced on a player, get him. Being right or wrong after the fact should never affect that decision making process.

Yes, I believe it. It's plain to see why. The guy is a leader of men. The offense will improve when the interior OL gets upgraded. The all 22 shows guys running open all day. Just need a QB to hit them (not throw behind them) and that is accomplished by better interior OL play.

I can't imagine a scenario where moving up to get Watkins was a panic move. Whaley's mistake, IMO, was in the PR department, when he said he expected Watkins to be the player to get the Bills to the playoffs.

Fascinating, cutting edge stuff. The only issue I see is with this being made public, i.e. if I play for the Bucks and I'm a known sulker when things go poorly, I may deliberately change my countenance knowing that a guy that has my boss' ear is tracking my facial expressions.
