Easy killer, no need to take it personal just because I have different opinions than you. First of all I didn't "trash" spiller, I just said that I don't have high expectations for him this year. He is the BACKUP after all. As a matter of fact I pointed out that he could be successful if Gailey implements the wildcat. There were many people in this thread with worse outlooks than I, read carefully before ranting... Secondly, you picked up on the fact that I don't think they had a good draft 2 years ago huh? I'm not the only one. No one says you have to agree with me, think whatever you want. I have a great Job, but I won't go any further than that because it is completely irrelevant. Overreact much? Take your pills and relax.

Unexpected cuts on the way?
Turbosrrgood replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, someone also released a report that Donte Whitner had a "rep as a good cover guy", that doesn't make it true. These were my observations, I fully understand that some people won't appreciate that and have different opinions, again its a small sample and I'd love nothing more than to be wrong about him. -
Lol, those are pretty lofty expectations then (yardage anyway). Especially considering he is a backup. I'd love to see it don't get me wrong, but I'm very skeptical about that prediction...

Unexpected cuts on the way?

Yes currently Troup is penciled in as the starting NT. I know people like to get upset and take it personally if you aren't impressed by a player (I'm not saying thats you), but I was thoroughly disappointed by his play last year. Yes I know its only been one year. He could very well turn into a stud and prove me wrong...I very much hope that he does. See above. Yes it has only been one year, but IMO he was awful when he was on the field last year. Again, I'd love for him to prove me wrong. -
Unexpected cuts on the way?

Unfortunately I don't have much hope that Spiller will magically break out this season. There is one thing to keep in mind though, the pick up of Brad Smith. I think Gailey is planning an extensive use of the wild cat with Smith/Spiller/Jackson/Even Thigpen? If they start showing success, that could really open things up for Spiller.

Unexpected cuts on the way?

Lol, how the F are the Raiders that far in the red? At least we have Al Davis to make Ralph look good... Hopefully not Troup, he is awful. Jasper or Dareus -
Like BillsFreak, it does concern me that Gailey hasn't really shown solid success anywhere he has been, but I am looking at the positives (rare occasion). He is at least better than Mularkey or Jauron lol. In reality though, at the very least he makes the team entertaining. Ralph IS cheap

George Edwards has had a bad CAREER. He has done nothing but fail every where he has been, which is why I almost threw up when the Bills signed him. I credit Nix for realizing this right away and bringing in wanndstedt, my only hope is that he replaces him completely. As far as Gailey goes, he was the first coach since Gilbride that was able to squeeze any life out of our offense. Compared to Mularkey and Jauron at HC before him he looks like a coaching god to Bills fans. Whether his ability to add a spark to the offense translates into a competitive team is still far from certain. At the very least he has made the team watchable. Nix had a poor first year drafting, but I he has really impressed me since. Again, maybe it's just because the Bills haven't even had a legitimate GM for almost 10 years before him (and that one was awful(Donahoe))...

WR Buster Davis signs with Bills
Turbosrrgood replied to Frostbelt City's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess I don't understand questions like this....Is the Bills current roster of WRs that amazing and dominant that we don't need to improve it? Yes Stevie Johnson had ONE good year so far. Lee Evans hasn't performed well in several years. Roscoe Impresses for about 1 game a year before he gets hurt Marcus Easley's career could be over before it starts... Brad Smith? He's done nothing at receiver yet. I like David Nelson, but he hasn't proven much yet. This is simply management taking a guy with potential, on the cheap, as depth. I'm all for it. He looked decent with SD last year. -
Whitner signs with Cincy
Turbosrrgood replied to Mike In Illinois's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Both Wilson and Scott have had significant starting time, and IMO have looked MUCH better and have been more consistent than Whitner was. I don't think either of these guys will be making the pro-bowl, but I think letting either of these guys replace Whitner instantly makes us a little better. Maybe not everyone shares my opinion of Whitner, but I thought he was absolutely awful. He made a decent amount of tackles, and occasionally laid a big hit. However the things I really notice about when Whitner plays is his inconsistency (accept his ability to consistently get blown away by even average TE's). Among the most frustrating things was his tendancy to line up for a big hit, only to bounce off and have the player keep running. When the ball was in the air Whitner looked as lost as any safety I have ever seen. He had no idea how to take a good angle, or make any sort of play on the ball. Actually, on many occasions he appeared to let the WR catch the ball, so he could try to hit him instead of breaking it up. I would take Jasper as our starting SS over whitner. Wilson and Scott are no studs, but they have proven that they can provide a reliable, consistent mix of coverage and tackling. Wilson is even a decent INT threat. I'll take that at this point. -
Which is the reason why it really takes something unbelievable for a USC player to impress me. That team is usually so loaded with top recruits that it makes determining an individuals skill tough. When you have 3 NFL quality LB's rushing the passer, that is really going to make the secondary look good... Even when a guy looks unbelievable at USC (Bush), it seems like that still doesn't translate to NFL success.

Whitner signs with Cincy
Turbosrrgood replied to Mike In Illinois's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haha, I just saw that, you beat me to posting it. That might be the funniest thing I have read in weeks....Where did this magical "rep as a good cover guy" come from? If Rex Ryan was the opposing tight end he STILL wouldn't be able to cover him... I wouldn't be so quick to appoint Wilson the replacement starter (although he probably has the edge). Bryan Scott has a lot of experience there, has very good size and tackling ability, and can cover TE's WAY better than Whitner ever could. Who knows, Searcy might even make a push. That's a decent SS competition, we are in pretty good shape there. Byrd is a FS, where I imagine he will continue to start -
I never really saw any "fast" out of him. I just looked at his draft numbers, he ran 4.78 and 4.87 (combine/pro-day) in the 40 4.5 years ago. Not bad for a guy his size, but it's not like he's going to be flying by LB's. The Bills O line could use some blocking help, so If he knows how to use his size blocking and can use his height in the red zone, then he should get his shot...
-
I am excited by the fact that they are trying Williams at end...That just seems to make so much more sense given his penetrating skill set, short arms or not... With him and Dareus out there eating up O-linemen, Barnett and Merriman should have free sailing to the QB if they can stay healthy by some miracle.
-
They didn't bring in Jasper, Merriman, Barnett, Troupe, Carrington to play in the 4-3. It has been suggested that it will be a hybrid defense until the 3-4 can hold its own. Kelsey isn't going anywhere for that exact reason, he was decent in the 4-3 last year and their best pass rusher down the stretch. So you want to trade our 2nd round pick next year for an injury prone part time DE that is probably past his prime? It's not like the Bills will be competing for the super bowl this year. Personally I would rather save that pick for an OL or LB next year...
-
Osi is a 4-3 DE, with injury problems at that. In no way does he fit in our defensive scheme. Can a team that is not in contention really throw away high draft picks on a guy that probably wouldn't even help them? There are WAY more important holes on this team that need to be fixed, (MLB, OL, TE,...) Interesting that you are naming all backups. Currently our penciled in starters are Merriman and Barnett. You also left out Moats.
-
How is that not a good thing? Being a 2nd round draft pick doesn't mean you are good, especially when the pick was a reach. Yeah I know he was a rookie, but Troup has shown next to nothing so far. He is not a starter, so I am not sure how he can be "supplanted". But if a 370-390 lb guy can out play troup or even become a starter, that is a VERY good thing IMO. I am kind of worried by all of this hype though. I am rooting for Jasper as much as anyone else, but he is still a long shot to contribute to this team. Size, and youtube workout videos don't make someone a good NFL player. Let's at least watch a few preseason games before we declare him the next Ted Washington. Don't forget, he was an OFFENSIVE GUARD in college last year, he has a lot to learn.
-
I can't say I remember specifically who was getting beat, but the O-line of the Dolphins looked absolutely awful last year. I know we need help, but I personally don't want any more Derrick Dockery types...
-
That site is notorious for publishing complete and utter BS... Great idea though, I should create a website with a bunch of made up lists and try to make money off of it. Lol +1
-
Overpaying for 1 mediocre playing once every few seasons does not make up for not even trying to sign the players that are actually GOOD (P.Williams, Peters, Clements, Winfield...). The Jets, Patriots, and Giants sign a few of these contracts every year. He is still cheap IMO. How about letting guys that show any sign of talent walk out of the door, because they are too expensive. I reiterate though, I like what the Bills have done so far this year and am not in anyway suggesting we throw more money at guys like Dockery. I think Wilson appears to be letting Nix do what he thinks is best. I think we had a good draft. We will still suck this year, but at least maybe we bottomed out?
-
I hope not. I really don't think Whitner helps us defensively. He can hit, that is his strong point. However he tackles with his shoulders, he often wiffs on his big hits, or bounces off. This leads to occasional huge plays. More importantly, he is consistently awful in coverage. He gets blown away by even average TE's, so much that the coaching staff had to use Bryan Scott when they played good ones. He makes no picks, forces few fumbles, and breaks up few passes. Both Scott and especially Wilson have better cover skills, Scott also has the size to play physical (after all he played LB at one point). We also have our young safety Searcy. Regardless of money, I don't see any reason to keep Whitner. EXACTLY. For me its not about the money, he just flat out isn't good...
-
+1 I strongly believe we need to improve the o-line(thats probably obvious to most)...However you can't simply pull talent out of the air. This was considered to be a very weak O-line draft, and I am glad the Bills didn't reach this year just because it was a need. There isn't a ton of O-line talent available in FA either (no more dockery/walkers!). Last year? well we've already had those discussions...
-
I like it...But Jasper is a long way from making this team, let alone cracking the starting line up. If he does actually pan out, that would be one beefy line... I would guess there would be a better chance of some rotation as opposed them all being on the field at the same time, but it is certainly a different roster at that position now...
-
Wood has looked solid to me, Levitre decent. I am not sold on Bell, he has done "OK". As Bills fans, OK starts to look good, but in reality we should want VERY GOOD players, or at least better than just "OK". I think Gaither would be worth the risk, but other than that Captain Caveman makes a good point...there aren't a lot of great options at that position right now. While we need to improve I would, I would only want to throw money at significant improvement. Not just more Dockery/Walkers...
