He didn't have the ball anymore, and Batten followed through with the tackle "driving him to the ground". It was borderline but I can understand the call according to the rules. The fact that there had already been a few personal fouls against the Broncos meant this one was automatic. I do agree the NFL is getting too soft though. The biggest evidence of that is the new(old) kickoff rules. I was more surprised there was not personal foul against Rahim Moore for ripping Spillers helmet off after a play...That was before his dirty hit on Jones. I don't like the "defenseless receiver" rule in general but, plays like that are why it is there. Jones has no chance to make that play, Moore was simply looking to injure.

Raiders take Pryor in the 3rd round

Pryor's only hope would be as a Brad Smith type of QB. This guy is not the real deal. -
One of my biggest concerns about Fitzpatrick
Turbosrrgood replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess I am confused as to how this is Fitz's fault...? It was one on one and Miller burned him in half a second. Dumervil did the same thing plenty more times regardless of whether it was run or pass. Robert Ayer burned him on the interception. There is no command Fitz can give to Bell that will give him to power to hold his blocks... As far as the count goes, Fitz had Miller badly offsides due to his count on another play. -
I will agree that Torbor is awful. He better not make this team, the guy runs in slow motion and has no football skills. Tatupu sounds nice, but he is a 4-3 guy and would probably cost a little money to just be a backup. Chillar doesn't impress me, but I would gladly take him (or anyone for that matter) over Torbor. That move would make a certain amount of sense given our lack of depth. Moats is unlikely to go back to OLB (no room), barring injury. So I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. The Bills DID sign Barnett, the best FA 3-4 ILB available this year IMO. They also have Sheppard who we haven't really seen yet.

Now I am not saying that there weren't times when MAYBE Fitz should have moved the RB, or audible (they may not have wanted to show this in the pre-season), but blaming Fitz because the worst o-line in football is messing up their assignments is a little ridiculous. Spiller isn't helping either. He can't block, and barely tries. If he had an experienced/quality o-line and these things were happening thats one thing, but you can't blame Fitz because other players on his team aren't good... Yup. This ^ -
I don't know if buy these arguments. He picked Trent out of a bad group of QB's, and replaced/released him very early on. Moats to ILB is questionable, but gives Moats a chance to compete. Despite some hyped up love for Moats, he would have been burried on the OLB depth chart. He has a chance to be a top backup ILB if he performs. Lynch over Jackson was purely for trade value. Hangartner isn't good, why assume he'd be better than Urbik? Levitre hasn't looked good, but he still started as far as I am aware. Rheinhart replaced him for ONE practice. My take on this is that Spiller has looked good so far and deserves some playing time. This will be platoon either way. One place Jackson has a real advantage is pass protection, he can do it...Spiller cannot. I am not saying Gailey is a miracle coach, but I don't know if that was a fair assessment.

I think a little too much of the "credit" for these things is being given to Fitz. The guys on the Bills O-line would be hard pressed to make another roster, let alone start. Bell literally couldn't hold a block for a full second against the Broncos. Spiller, despite looking good so far this year, has yet to catch on at all in the pass blocking aspect. No amount of QB "awareness" can make up for that. Plus they have a roster of young WR's, only one of which has real starting experience...and only 1 year at that. I don't think Fitz is great, but he is the least of the offenses concern right now IMO. At this rate he will be hurt by week 3 anyway. -
Dumervil did look pretty good destroying Bell this past weekend... Moats looked ok last year rushing the passer, but looked completely out of his league out in space. Sure there was the possibility of improvement, but to compare Moats to the guys you mentioned is a little off the mark IMO. Even if they kept him at OLB, he would be the 4th option at best (Merriman, Kelsey (like it or not), Batten, maybe even Coleman (bigger). I think Moats is more suited to outside, but he has a better chance to get in the game on the inside. We have good starters but Sheppard, the unproven rookie is the only other depth on the inside. I don't count Torbor because he is so freaking awful. This is a situation that puts him in a spot to learn from good vets, and gives him the opportunity to be a second stringer/rotational guy. We simply need the inside depth.

Please express how you feel about tonight
Turbosrrgood replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am going to start with positives. Our D-line might have turned into the biggest strength on our team. KW and Dareus look unstoppable and Carrington shows promise. We even have solid depth. Spencer Johnson has looked way better than I have ever seen him, and Heard looks very deserving of a roster spot (playing DE too). Notice I didn't mention Troup... Also, our starting LB's look very solid. Barnett (yes he had one big wiff in that game, but still looks good) and Davis are looking like a pretty good MLB tandem. No depth behind them, but solid starters. Rahim Moore is a a dirt bag. I thought he should have been flagged for ripping off Spillers helmet long after the play was over. THEN he landed the very dirty hit on Jones, who had no chance to catch the ball anyway. I generally don't like the "defenseless receiver rule" but this is exactly what that rule is there for. DIRT BAG. For all of those who think Bell is "good" or a "quality" starter. I beg you to watch the Broncos game again. He literally got beat on EVERY play, regardless of who he was matched up against. The interception by Fitz SHOULD have been caught by Easley, but he would have had more time to throw had Bell not been beaten like a red headed step child. I haven't seen that kind of beating given to an OL since Winston Justice against the Giants... Torbor...does not deserve to be on an NFL roster. I thought he was bad on the Giants (many of my friends and family are g-men fans, so I end up watching most of those games). He looked bad in limited action last year. He looked AWFUL against the broncos. Look at every big play that occurred when Torbor was on the field, and you will realize it was HIS man. He may be the slowest player on the team, can't break blocks, can't tackle, and can't cover...Give me anyone else. McKelvin...Why are they trying to force him into starting? He has already proven that he struggles in that role. McGee is healthy, he is heads over heals better. Play him. Also on that note...Is it me or does McGee look huge this year? I remember him looking like a fairly small player, he looks bulked up and ripped now. Our O-line? Well Urbik was our best OL against the Broncos...enough said. -
He is definitely on the verge of rightfully grabbing that label. Teams targeted him last year, and rightfully so....So far he looks no better this year. Why do they insist on trying to start him? If McGee is healthy...there is no question who the better CB is... Unfortunately I have to agree of with this too. Especially this last game he didn't look that great...Of course no one could have looked worse than Bell. He got beat on almost every single play, no matter who he was blocking.

I thought Dixon looked decent too, although I don't know if he is actually starter material. The pickup of Thigpen and Smith makes this a moot point. They want smith for the wildcat, I think it would only be in an emergency scenario that he would ever play full time QB. But he's not going anywhere. Thigpen probably makes for a better backup, so the Dixon ship has sailed for us...

People tend to defend their threads to the death...But you might want to let this one go...That "logic" simply doesn't make sense. If it does in your mind, that's cool, just don't expect many other people to buy it... This thread has a nice combination of hindsight, speculation, rumor, and psychic powers... For the record I thought the Bills got the best overall player in this draft, so it couldn't have worked out better IMO. Newton was a big risk/big reward guy, if he works out then great for Carolina. If not, too bad for Carolina...

Kamar Aiken #2 on depth chart???
Turbosrrgood replied to dcbillsfan13's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've never found the BuffaloBills.com roster to be all that meaningful this time of year. Having said that, I am always happy to hear we have someone stepping up. My question is, if he makes the team...Who gets cut? Davis (hopefully)? Easley? Roosevelt? Maybe even Nelson? Davis hasn't done anything to prove he's not the "bust" he was from SD so far, and certainly doesn't look better than any of our young guys. Hopefully Nix can get over him. Easley has had tough luck, but has proven next to nothing so far...Still, I'd like to see him get a chance. I was a Namaan doubter last year, but he is starting to make me a believer. He has looked like one of our most consistent receivers. I like Huggins and Hubbard too...One position where we certainly have depth... -
Don't forget about the other WR that the Redskins took. The guy that was supposed to be the best in his class and possible early 1st rounder...College one year wonder Devin Thomas. He cycled through 3 teams last year and is now fighting for a roster spot on the Giants I believe.

It seemed like there were so many receiving options in that draft, almost all of them have been disappointments so far. For a big guy, Hardy had awful hands. All I remember his him dropping just about anything thrown his way.

Jets offer Maybin one year deal.
Turbosrrgood replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My mistake, I should have said "are trying to sign him". -
Bell is has proven himself capable of the position, nothing great but good enough for now with the potential for further improvement. The rest of the O-line is the real concern. Other than Wood, maybe Levitre (recently demoted), I don't know if any of these other guys could make another NFL roster, let alone start. In the case of Pears and Urbik, they actually couldn't hold an NFL roster spot until the Bills. Although in general, this idea makes sense...Our o-line isn't small. Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better at this position anyway. We've seen sub-average (to down right terrible) very big guys roll through our o-line in recent years. We've had guys like Mike Williams (biggest of all), Derrick Dockery, and Langston Walker (The best of the bad group). All very big guys, all leaving in disappointment. At 330lbs plus Urbik is big too, too bad he isn't good...We need TALENT more than anything. If we get talent AND size, then we actually have a top level player...

It is pretty hilarious that after cutting their own high pick bust Gholston (almost HAS to be better than Maybin, right?) They sign the Bills garbage... Maybe they picked him up for his vocal talents.... http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/NFL-s-worst-player-Aaron-Maybin-releases-awf?urn=nfl-284572 -
Levitre demoted / Levitre promoted
Turbosrrgood replied to Justice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this is a little over blown, and seems to be more about Rhinehart looking good than Levitre looking bad. Just listen to Gailey talk about it, apparently Rhinehart impressed him. Levitre has starting experience, Urbik does not and needs all the reps he can get. Starting Rhinehart is the only way to find out how he will match up against starting defenses. IMO, this is a good thing. It means maybe one of those guys is finally stepping up and showing some ability. I don't really know anything about Rhinehart other than what I've read, but his competition is weak. If he shows any ability and consistency, he has a chance... -
Why did Brown play more than Thigpen?
Turbosrrgood replied to Mr. WEO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who's to say they don't keep Brown on the roster. Brad Smith is a real weapon, but not a real QB. He is probably listed at WR. With our O-line it's not unreasonable to think we might keep 3 QB's...With Smith around as an "emergency" QB, it seems unlikely but not out of the question. -
Exactly, with this o-line I wouldn't expect a consistent running game, especially on the right side of the line. Urbik has looked like he's out of his league, and Pears isn't exactly a mauler...

Aaron Williams!!!
Turbosrrgood replied to Don't stop billievein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought he got burned a couple times during that game, but CB is usually hard for a rookie early on. They are not used to the speed and routes of NFL receivers yet. He had some good plays too. The int was nice, it showed him using his size. I liked the pick, but I won't say that he was the best or has more upside than Dareus...That guy could be a real difference maker for us. -
I don't think putting Hangartner back at center is the answer, he is pretty weak at that position. Wood is a major improvement over him. What we need is to bring in someone, ANYONE that can compete for the o-line spots. What is even worse than Urbik, is the though of what happens if he gets hurt. Has anyone watched Mansfield Wrotto play? That guy IS NOT an NFL player. Unfortunately, the RT spot is not wide open. I am not a Pears fan, but unless we bring in someone else there is NO ONE I've seen behind him that could step up and be a capable OT. Pears is our RT by default at the moment.
