A 4th rounder was exactly what he was worth IMO, I think the Bills were fielding plenty of calls for a 5th. It looks like the Ravens are using him exactly how the Bills did, basically just send him deep every play and throw it underneath him. He'll do ok on the Ravens, he's just a boom or bust guy...That's why we traded him. +1, no one is forcing anyone to read or respond to a thread...

Are the Bills that Good?

You're right about them not looking good despite all the talent though. They squeaked by a fairly bad team. I have V Jackson on my fantasy team, he laid an egg... -

It would be tough to be 0-2 when they already won a game... -

I thought the Bills were going to win this game (not by blow out though). Partly because the Bills improved in the offseason, and partly because I don't think the Chiefs are very good. I think making comparisons of Fitz, Johnson, and Jackson to guys like Brady, Aikman, ect....is a little ridiculous at this point. This was one game against a very overrated Chiefs team, so while I thoroughly enjoyed watching the game I am not overly excited yet. I think this will be an up and down year...some games like week 1, mixed with some head scratching losses. I will say this, the Bills D looked just like we were hoping for. They completely stuffed the run game, something they couldn't dream about doing last year. I was a bit shocked by how well the Bill's o-line played. I was also shocked that Chiefs rarely blitzed against a shaky o-line. They will get a much better test against an aggressive Raiders D this week. Fred Jackson looks good, and should have been starting for the last few years here. Scott Chandler. Nuff said... -
So you joined this site, just to go to all of the threads and proclaim how much you disapprove of the topics? Take the stick out and enjoy a laugh...

Everyone gets a little over-hyped about certain players, based on limited observations...I might be guilty of it on this one... Having said that, Heard really impressed me in the pre-season (yes, against almost exclusively 2nd and 3rd stringers). He is huge and uses his size and strength well, but he is also surprisingly quick. He is very aggressive on the line, and extremely quick on the snap. He simply made plays, consistently. I do actually like our D-line now, both starters and depth...Of those guys though, Edwards stands out as the weak link to me. He holds the point of attack, but that's about it. It's likely you will see Johnson rotating in for Dareus, and Heard rotating in for Edwards (These guys are big, and won't play every down). Personally I think if Heard continues his play from the pre-season he should start in place of Edwards down the road...Am I the only one thinking this? My only concern with him is one of his strengths, his aggressiveness on the snap. Experienced QB's will probably be able to pull him off sides fairly often..

This thread wins for best title...I had some disturbing visuals when I read it... Undersized players can be real play makers, IF they are mixed in with a group of bigger, stronger, talented players...Jauron's problem is that he went undersized all the way...at EVERY position. He is an awful coach, he always has been. The ONE year in Chicago was an obvious fluke. I thought the Browns were starting to turn the corner, but with Jauron on board I really feel sorry for them... +1, I am nervous about what these speed backs will do against our much bigger defense. Although both Merriman, and especially Barnett have looked like lightning so far.

If you watched Hangartner play...ever...regardless of position...you would realize why he was cut. The guy simply isn't an NFL quality OL. He gets thrown around and mauled by opposing DT's, even mediocre ones. He creates absolutely no push on running plays. Watching him play against the big NT's in the AFC east was laughable. The only one that looked worse than Hangartner in the pre-season was Mansfield Wrotto...and wow was he bad.... If the Panthers choose to start him...well then maybe we DON'T have the worst OL in the league.
-
For some weird reason I feel good about this game...How do I always let this happen, think maybe the Bills are turning a corner...Only to be blasted back to reality in the regular season... Still, if the Bill's D plays solidly (I think they will surprise people), then they have a very good chance. Our offense scares me a little. The O-line blows, and our WR depth chart was made by picking names out of a hat...
-
Then you are going to be disappointed... Especially with KW signed to a new long term contract
-
People over react in both directions when it has come to Troup. IMO I thought he struggled last year, his biggest problem being that he gets pushed around a lot, and rarely penetrates. So far the opposing O-line has owned him both last season and this pre-season. When you watch the strength and talent from guys like KW, Dareus...Even Johsnon and Heard...You realize what Troup is NOT. In his defense, it's tough to judge him on this pre-season with a fairly serious injury. The beauty of this whole situation is that we don't need him to be great, we just need him to be a backup/rotational guy. We have a very solid D line with Dareus, KW, Edwards, Johnson, and Heard...Plus we are massive on the line now...

Moats back to outside?
Turbosrrgood replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
+1 I actually love what they are doing with Scott. He is by far the best on the team at covering the TE, and he has the size and experience at both safety spots AND LB. He may be listed as the backup SS, but you will see him regularly in a variety of roles... I am still shocked that they kept Moats over Coleman. With the Morrison pickup, and Sheppard we have decent depth at ILB. On the outside we have Batten, Carrington, and Eddins. I thought Coleman showed he was the stronger and more consistent of the two. People react this way because of their own pre-conceived notion of what an "OLB" should be. In todays 3-4, the strong side linebacker is basically a glorified DE. Yes he is bigger than most, but to look at that as a reason why he shouldn't play that position is mystifying to me. He played that position almost all pre-season, and looked pretty good doing it. I consider his size to be a big asset. Will they have him covering WR's and TE's? Probably not too often, he will be playing up on the line where he belongs. He will be splitting time with Kelsey, and IS the backup OLB behind him. Johnson and Heard are the backup DE's -
I ignore the "homer" aspect more than most around here, in favor of the best overall talent. However Roosevelt really impressed this off season. He doesn't show game breaking speed, but was probably the most reliable receiver in terms of hands and route running. He will likely be called back up once Roscoe breaks something (week 2, 3?). Corto looked like a stud on special teams, but he really didn't have a place on the defensive roster after we took Searcy. We are pretty solid at safety. He had a good run.

Other than the Trent Edwards comment I didn't think it was THAT bad...They seem even more pessimistic than us....and I am pretty sure one Chiefs fan said he hoped another Chiefs fan died... Actually, I might read that forum more often. Chiefs fans apparently all hate one another, its pretty funny to read.
-
Yeah, April was a stud...Dehaven, not so much...He may have some better ST'ers to work with though, he'll get a chance to prove himself still capable...

Honestly I never thought Jasper would make the team as a DT, at least not this year. But I also didn't expect Heard to look so freaking good in the pre-season. Glad he made the team. We have real depth on our d-line, Johnson, Heard, Carrington, and Troup backing up Williams Dareus and Edwards?....Sounds good to me. Talk about going weakness to strength... Plus, those guys are freaking huge...Ironically our starting NT might be the smallest guy on our D-line roster.
-
To me it seems really odd that they are trying to move him to OT. He is huge, but doesn't have the "desired" height and wingspan of a tackle. The guy is massive, and looks more like a guard type...plus he's played guard. Doesn't it make a whole heck of a lot more sense to try him there?
-
For me there there are only 2 big keys to the Bills succeeding in week one.... Stop the run, their offense is less than spectacular after Charles. They lost there top TE, which is usually a bane of our defense (luckily we don't have Whitner or Pozluzny anymore to get blown away). Don't turn the ball over! We have some tools on offense to score enough to win this game, but their defense is solid...If we turn the ball over, or get sacked 6+ times...forget about it...
-
+1, the main reason Martin made this team is for special teams. Our ST unit was awful last year, pencil Martin in as our #1 punt coverage gunner. He is a serviceable bottom of the depth chart receiver.

Roosevelt and Coleman
Turbosrrgood replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought Coleman should have been kept over Moats, I was really shocked by that...I know people love Moats for some reason, but Coleman looks far more consistent and strong at that position. I think what really killed Coleman was the rise of Eddins. He has looked really good from day 1. Those still saying "keep Coleman over Kelsay" must not have been watching the last 6 games of the season last year, or all of the pre-season this year. Kelsay never played OLB until last year, and he has been playing down right good as of late. He deserves to the starter, mixing time with Carrington. Those still claiming he is "awful", are still sticking to some weird emotional hate for him regardless of his play. -
Jones and Easley are pretty much interchangeable in my opinion. They have the same size, speed, and skill sets. While both have had problems holding on to the ball, Easley's biggest problem has been all the drops. Even easy ones. I think that is the sole reason Jones gets the start, plus Fitz seems to like him. Personally I think they should have given Nelson more of a shot, he has by FAR the best hands on the team and he's 6-5. Everyone is welcome to their opinion, but mine is that you are giving Bell WAY too much credit for the things you listed. Bell looked serviceable at times last year, and awful at others. There is no way he starts at LT for any other team in the league. Watch the Broncos pre-season game for the real demonstration of Bell's "skills". I agree with you on the other fronts though. I was a big Pears detractor when he was announced as the starter before camp (mainly based on his history). He has been by far the most consistent OL through training camp though, at least in pass protection. He actually looks like he might be a quality starter. Urbik looked absolutely awful early on, but has seemed to improve as the pre-season went on. He is big, and has been doing well in the running game. I don't think he has a high upside, but maybe he's not as bad as everyone initially thought. I honestly think Bell is the weakest link on our O-line now, at the most important position. Hairston may have a crack at the job sometime during this season.

Are we suddently strong at LB???
Turbosrrgood replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He did have a few nice plays last year, he also completely disappeared on run plays, and cant cover. Moats might have made for a nice situational pass rusher, but we have better guys there now. Carrington, who will be splitting time with Kelsey it appears, then Batten and Coleman as solid backups, with Eddins looking good and making a strong push. Moats had a few nice plays, but looked FAR from great overall. People are only remembering those few nice plays, and are assuming he's a stud. Neither do I, which is why I think it is a good pickup. Unless something dramatic happens though, he will be a backup. Davis has looked very solid so far. -

Green, you are neglecting the fact that he got plenty of playing time there last year, and struggled. There was a reason for the move, it wasn't "arbitrary". If they didn't move him to ILB, he was an auto-cut... Wanting a guy to be good, and a guy actually being good, are two different things man...Gailey went with the best players at the position, and they have looked good so far. I don't think you can fault him at all... Morrison is a backup and was awful for the Jags last year (solid experienced depth guy though, good move). Davis is our starter...and has looked pretty good at that -
Fact -bills will be a lot better then last year
Turbosrrgood replied to mc kid 78's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can believe whatever you want. I left out Holmes because he IS a good receiver yes, glad you picked up on that. I was only mentioning overrated ones. Sanchez is on a team that dominates in all aspects of the game...except one, QB. They have a good #1 WR, a good TE, a good line with a top caliber LT, and decent RB's...not to mention one of the best D's in the league. Even with all of that Sanchez has struggled. You are welcome to think of him however you'd like though... Fitz vastly out performed him last year on one of the worst teams in the league. While not even playing the whole season. And just for the record, I don't consider Fitz to be anything more than an average QB. -

White is a lock to do one thing, get cut, and most likely make the practice squad. I just don't understand the emotional attachment to Moats. He was a late round pick, that got some playing time last year...made some nice plays, made a lot of bad plays, didn't look all that great to me. Batten, Coleman, and Eddins all look much better IMO. With those guys, and Morrison and Sheppard (despite being injured all preseason) in the middle, Moats is on the outside looking in. White never really had a chance, but he should be safe on practice squad and get a shot next year. Well said sir
