  1. It's funny that you just completely ignored his post in your response. The specific concern was stopping the run...Why were people concerned about this? The Bills were the worst run defense by far last year, they wanted improvement there. It's tough to ever doubt his pass rush, but Miller does not play the run well. That is where the concern was...You are basically making stuff up here. The fact of the matter is, despite how good he has looked rushing the passer (yes, he looks good), he has NOT done well against the run. I have watched every game, he was even benched due to poor play when he wasn't blitzing, specifically the run. Miller is good, personally I have never doubted that. But I DID want Dareus over him, as that seemed to be the bigger need for the Bills. This is all a moot point anyway, Miller was taken before the Bills pick...end of story. Exactly. Yes Miller looks like a stud pass rusher. He still struggles against the run. Dareus has been a force so far this year, and has been good against the run, while applying plenty of pressure against the pass (of course we could still use edge rushers, but we couldn't draft BOTH of them). Things worked out great for both teams...
  2. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. As you mentioned those guys ARE playing OLB. The Bills badly needed the beef on the front line, and it's not like Dareus doesn't provide pressure. Did you for get our epic disaster of a run D last year? Our pass defense was ranked ok...because no teams even BOTHERED to pass against us. A pass rusher doesn't help in that situation. Dareus has been a beast all year, and has produced plenty. He isn't going to get 15 sacks, that isn't whats expected of him. As a rookie, I think he has been exactly what we wanted. We still have a weak, inexperienced LB core behind him (except Barnett), and precious little other help on the D-line. And that is still an issue. He is getting double teamed on virtually every play. Obviously the Bills certainly could have used either guy, I think they started in the right place...Besides, there was never a choice in the matter. Miller was selected BEFORE the Bills picked. This is a good point...It looks like all of the early draft picks are living up to the hype...I feel like that never happens...
  3. This exactly...Some Miller fans wont accept his glaring faults in the run and pass coverage games. However I will admit he was worth his draft spot on pure pass rushing alone. I think the Bills needed Dareus much more though, a pass rusher isn't much use when teams can run against you unchallenged, like the Bills of last year. Dareus is even more important with the injury to KW, our best defensive player.
  4. Personally, I never doubted Miller would be able to get to the QB but I will admit he has been better than I expected at doing that... However what many people were worried about with Miller was his ability to play LB (playing the run, and coverage). I have watched almost every game, and so far he has been awful in both categories. He makes some nice plays against the run when gets them in the backfield, but in all other situations disappears. He was even benched at one point because of his inability to play the run. What you get with Miller is a one dimensional pass rusher (looking to be a pretty good one at that). I think that was the concern for a lot of people at draft time, considering our awful run D last year. I still think the Bills were better off with Dareus, who can stop the run and the pass, as well as play multiple positions. Miller is proving his worth, he is just a PURE pass rusher.
  5. You mean our third stringer?
  6. Yet another reason why Ryan is just a fat bastard. He knows a lot less about coaching then he does about talking, sucking on feet, and being an annoying prick. BTW, if you think Rex's fetish is gross, what about his wife? Letting disgusting fat dumpy guys slobber all over your feet? What a catch... Anyway, this puts pressure on Maybin...And we all know how he responds when the spotlight is on him, by disappearing...And I'd love to see how Maybin will play the run...
  7. I really wonder what the Broncos fans are thinking right now. They were all screaming for him, and I get the feeling Fox is letting him play just so he can say "SEE? told you so...". Orton is no all-star, but he may have been the best player on that team. Sitting him in favor of Tebow will do one thing, and one thing only...Improve their draft position.
  8. Hairston is solid, he may be our LT of the future. If he's healthy enough I have no problems with him playing over Levitre. Whoever plays will have to be able to handle some blitzes though. I think Hairston is well suited for that, I have seen him numerous times block two guys at once, one with each arm. The guy is a monster....
  9. Lol, I missed that as well. All I remember hearing from him is appreciation to the franchise that he played his whole career for...
  10. I was a fan of the Merriman signing, he was cheap and low risk/high reward...But he hasn't produced anything so far. I disagree with the assertion that Merriman was getting constantly double teamed, he WASN'T. I didn't necessarily think he played poorly, but he was nothing compared to his former self. Most of the time when he was rushing the passer he was one on one with the opposing LT, he just simply could not produce enough power or speed to get by. Actually, he rarely got double teamed. KW, Kelsay, and Dareus were doubled more. Also Merriman had exactly 3 years (yes they were very good years, ON STEROIDS), and has done nothing since. Schobel produced for his ENTIRE CAREER, and not only got to the QB, but also played the run extremely well. To say that "Schobel couldn't carry Merrimans jock" is just ridiculous...
  11. Norwood was good before he missed that relatively hard kick...But all I can think of when I hear his name is "Einhorn is Finkle, Finkle is Einhorn..."
  12. I would just like to point this out again...So what if some of the players didn't like Gruden? He got it done. We had Dick Jauron, whom the players loved...Too bad he was a god awful coach, and didn't produce results. You look through history many "A#% hole" coaches have led their teams to the super bowl. Players hated Parcells (I hate him too), but he had success. Pretty much all players that ever played for Coughlin hate him, but he has always had winning teams, and improbably beat the undefeated Patriots in the SB. Shanahan, doesn't exactly have terrific people skills either and he won 2 SB's (even though all the credit goes to Elway and Davis). Tough coaching is what it takes to win sometimes, its not about coddling the players... I think there are signs that he "gets on peoples nerves", but he was an effective coach.
  13. Uhh the dude retired, he didn't quit first off. Secondly, what is the incentive for Schobel to continue playing for a god awful team? Just because he didn't stick around to satisfy you doesn't mean he has a "lack of character". As a matter of fact Schobel was one of the strongest character guys on this team. It's his life and career, he gets to hang it up whenever he feels like it. I have doubts that he could come back and be effective though, without having played or practiced in a few years. He never played in this defense. Heck, he wouldn't even be playing the same position.
  14. +1 Compare him to a brainless, arrogant, moron, who is clueless about the game like Theisman. Compared to him Gruden is a broadcasting genius, he actually knows the rules of football and brings energy.
  15. I'd like to see that as well, considering he was a former QB...But have you seen the guy thrown? Man I don't know how Smith was a QB, he can't throw a spiral to save his life. I doubt we will be seeing many "bombs" from him. I have a feeling the Jets will get a good does of him this week though...
  16. Here is the thing, most of Smith's productivity was in the wildcat and special teams. I would say he has been pretty effective for us in the wildcat, using him mostly in short yardage situations. But our offense has been very efficient this year, we don't NEED the wildcat very often. I don't think anyone expected our offense to be this good, and most people probably thought that we would need to rely on schemes like the wildcat. Running the wildcat means taking the Ball out of the hands of a very smart QB that is getting the job done, and one of the leagues most effective RB's so far. Unfortunately Brad Smith simply isn't a very good WR. He has awful hands, and doesn't judge the ball well. Hence his limited reps at that position. We also aren't a very efficient special teams unit, ranked low in returns. So while I think smith is good in that role, ST's just isn't a strength for us. I am still a fan of having him on the team. Regardless of how often we use him, teams HAVE to game plan for him. He HAS been effective in short yardage situations, and he is one more thing defenses have to worry about when playing us.
  17. Joe, you're just off on this one. You are giving WAY too much credit to Dungy, and not enough to Gruden. As a matter of fact you make points contradicting your own stance. Gruden not only "built" a strong team in the Raiders, good enough to make it to the super bowl, but then went on to beat that team the next year. You could say he had two teams in the same SB... Yes the Bucs had a strong D when he got there, built by Kiffen NOT Dungy. Gruden added the tough coaching and offense, and won the super bowl with that team when Dungy couldn't. Again, not touting Gruden as a coaching genius, but he deserved full credit for his superbowl. I would say more than Dungy with Manning. That team with Manning looked exactly the same before during and after Dungy's tenure for one reason...Manning. After Gruden left the Bucs, that team tanked. In reality, no one talks about McKay. The GM who REALLY built that team (not Dungy). He deserves credit as well.
  18. I am a Gruden fan, more as an announcer than as a coach. But the above comments never made any sense to me. Dungy never did anything to make a name for himself as a coach. If that was "Dungy's team", why couldn't Dungy win with them? Yeah he won a super bowl....as Peyton Manning's clipboard holder... Gruden turned the Raiders into contenders, who quickly descended back into oblivion once he left (after he beat them in the super bowl the following year). I am not saying Gruden is an all time great, but he did a good job with both the Raiders and the Bucs. Ending with respectable 95-81 record, 5-4 in playoffs, and a ring... Besides, Chucky made a bunch of changes on offense that year, both scheme and players. That proved to be the difference in winning the superbowl. BTW, Monte Kiffen was the DC that engineered their powerful defense of the day, he should deserve more credit than Dungy...
  19. Yeah I liked Batten and was routing for him, but he is dropping like a rock from the depth chart. He just isn't showing any ability to get off blocks. I was not as big of a Moats fan as everyone else, but he does have at least some knack for getting to the QB...Actually Moats has produced more in limited action so far than Merriman did. And despite the Keslay haters, he is by far our best OLB, over the closest competition. Ever since they put him back on the line of scrimage he has been very solid...good to have him healthy again.
  20. Dude, that guy looks like an older Eric Cartman. I feel bad for him, obviously the 'skins are all that he has in life. He also clearly doesn't even know that much about sports, although I admittedly couldn't make it through the whole thing. He was just ranting about how miserably they make him. It seemed like he was blaming their troubles on luck, curses, and the players efforts. Meanwhile it has a lot more to do with the Owner, FO, and Shanahan... I thought it was funny when he said they should emulate the nationals, the laughing stock of baseball for...well their entire existence so far. He said they were slowly "dominating"? Yeah they were better than last year, but they were still under .500 and a mere 22 games out of first place...Now that's domination to strive for... Hah, yeah I liked that one...
  21. This ^. To my great surprise Edwards/Wanny actually dialed up some aggressive blitzes, something did very little of all season. This is something I have been dying to see. It wasn't all Blitzes though, the return of Kelsay was very much welcome as well. He still looks like our strongest edge pass rusher. Moats was looking like a pesky pass rusher as well. Of Course the big guys, Heard, Edwards, and obviously Dareus were dominant all game long as well. The real trick here is to continue this trend, especially against Sanchez. I hate the guy, but he will not be NEARLY as easy to sack as beck. Oh yeah, Shanahan is a freaking idiot. To think I wanted him as our coach at one point. He has driven all players with the slightest hint of talent from his team, and despite Grossman (I'm no fan but he did ok) leading his team to an improbable 3-1 start, he was benched after one game. The only thing keeping this team from being a bottom feeder is a surprisingly good defense, which Shanahan has nothing to do with(Haslett). He is supposed to be an offensive guru...Obviously all his success rode on the backs of Elway and Davis...
  22. never heard of indecent assault, but it sounds hilarious... Although I am sure the lady didn't think so... Too bad it wasn't the "girl" from crocodile dundee...
  23. The Bills O-line has been a huge surprise, especially considering the injuries we suffered on it. I personally had thought that if we suffered injuries to any of our starters we were screwed...I was wrong. I think it is a little much to be saying they are the best in the league though, a lot of the credit for the success of this offense has to go to terrific coaching and game planning. The Bills rarely throw deep, and Fitzpatrick rarely holds onto the ball for more than 2 or 3 seconds (A tremendous break from Johnson, Bledsoe, Losman, Edwards, ect...). When a QB gets rid of the ball that quickly it is tough to get pressure on him (Credit to that Harvard brain). In the run game, Jackson and Gailey are a match made in heaven. Jackson's style is absolutely perfect for the blocking scheme and running plays Gailey likes to call. He is also well balanced, quick enough, a great receiver, tough to tackle, with great vision. Combine that with the fact that opposing defenses actually have to defend the pass now and you have a recipe for success. As good as our O-line has looked most of the time, I would say that this is just an offense in sync, as opposed to being the best at any position.
  24. Ever since I saw that $100 million plus price tag for renovations I thought, why the heck don't we just put that towards a new stadium? That does make a certain amount of sense. Of course money is an issue, and getting that type of investment in this economic climate seems difficult at best. But a dome? No freaking way. I don't think true Bills fans could ever support a dome. The bad weather games are part of this franchise, like they are in Green Bay, Chigago, and Cleveland.
  25. In a way he's the ONLY real WR we have... Heck we have a RB at the #2 WR spot now....Although I like the move, Spiller actually looked pretty good in his first outing at wide out. It at least gives us speed again.
