  1. I was never a fan of signing Kelsay to be a 3-4 OLB, so I was never a fan of that contract. However the numbers in that article are simply wrong. Kelsay's contract was heavily incentive based, and included a relatively small 2M bonus. It is quite obvious that Kelsay will likely earn 2M which is his base salary, not 5M. Interesting that he did not post the actual contract terms in that article, just his assumption that Kelsey would hit all of the bonuses (I believe 5M was the max with incentives, that he is obviously not reaching). There are roster bonuses that the Bills would have to pay to keep him around...That would be the time and reason you would see him get cut, if he does.
  2. You make a pretty good point actually. Not only did he have a dominant roster when he was there, but his teams have been simply awful with the Rams...It's not just the offense either, they can't stop the run. I think if we can get just 1 strong outside pass rusher we would have a pretty good 3-4 roster. We have a strong line when healthy, a solid secondary when healthy (Byrd, Wilson, Williams, Florence). We have a pretty good ILB in Barnett. The thing we are missing most here is a decent 3-4 coordinator. But will the Bills ever cough up the money to get one...
  3. You obviously don't watch the games do you...Moats is almost always left isolated 1-1, Dareus is doubled on virtually every play. Depending on the play call Kelsay is frequently getting the RB, TE, or G blocking down him. Teams don't NEED to do that, Kelsay is hardly a scary rusher. My point is that when a team has such few threats (as the Bills do), you are going to block the biggest threats. And uhh I doubt D coordinators are planning for Kelsay, but OC's yeah. That's their job, to plan against the other teams players whether they are good or not. Like I have said, the Bills have no one better than Kelsay, I have yet to hear you offer anything on that other than confused looks.. Ok, I'll ask again then, if we cut Kelsay who do you start in his place? At no point have I said Kelsay is great...It just doesn't make any sense to cut a guy because you dont personally like him, If you have no one to replace him it just makes the team worse.
  4. They are stats, I form my opinion on actually watching guys play...On a team decimated by injury, the few decent players left just get double teamed or avoided. As I said, Kelsey is no star, and he is no pass rushing specialist, but he is at least pushing the pocket. That's more than can be said for any other LB on the team. I'd love to have a guy better than Kelsey start in his place...Who on our roster do you think is better than Kelsey? Batten? He had his chance, benched. Moats? He's starting, and getting blown away by opposing blockers on every play. Who? We OLB's, I agree with that. But until we get some better ones how does cutting our only serviceable OLB help us?
  5. Lol, so your argument is that those other guys that are so "ferocious" each have .5 sacks....You are right, they are awesome, what was I thinking... You do realize that Moats has been playing almost every down (3-4 formation) at the other OLB position right? I know, it's hard to tell because he has been invisible when on the field. Batten has basically been benched, since he simply just didn't cut it. Everyone is welcome to their own opinion, and you can try and justify it to yourself all you want, but we don't have anyone better than Kelsay at the moment. When we do...then maybe we cut him. Cutting a guy, and replacing him with an even worse guy, does not solve any problems...
  6. Sounds good to me...It's no secret that the Bills have the worst D-coordinator (in NFL history IMO). Despite all of the Haters the Bill's D roster has some talent on it. Aaron Williams is looking really good to me, we are deep at safety, and when healthy we would have a dominant interior. All we need is someone with some brains, and a good OLB or 2. Here's the problem...Don't expect the Bills to hire a top notch coordinator. They don't want to pay for them, that's why we ended up George Edwards in the first place. Edwards has been so bad that even the Bills cheap FO has to be thinking about canning him, even if they do expect them to look for a "bargain" though. It's less a question of talent, than coaching. We are weak at LB, specifically OLB, but the rest of D when healthy is solid...We just have a god awful DC.
  7. It's funny that guys keep attacking Kelsay...Other than Dareus he is the only one who comes anywhere near the QB. Sure he is no star, average at best...but of all the problems on this team why attack the player that ISN'T one? What about the other side? Merriman is washed up, Moats and Batten have been invisible to say the least. Sheppard is still learning and struggling. Barnett has been our only other consistent LB. Opposing teams only have to do 2 things against the pass, double Dareus, and double Kelsay (which they do on most plays). Other than those 2 no one else is even close to a threat. Kelsay is no star as I have said, but the Bill's had NO ONE else. They picked up Merriman and Barnett (at least one good pickup), and had "prospects" of Batten and Moats...Those guys didn't step up, actually they have been awful. Don't blame Keslay because no one else has played better than him.
  8. Umm NO, not even close. People love to hate Kelsay and put all the blame for the defense on him...despite the stats he is by far our best OLB, and definitely the strongest. He is the ONLY one that pushes the pocket consistently, granted he is no star and no he does not have the sacks you would like. Still he is an average player on an awful team, there are way bigger problems than Kelsay. And to suggest Maybin could do what Kelsey does, are you serious? Maybin is a twig with no power or natural instincts. Sure he can rush the passer on occasion, but has no strength to beat even one on one blocking...Playing the run? Forget about it, he couldn't tackle my grandmother, and she's already dead! Maybin has found a niche with a very strong defensive team playing on 3rd and longs only...He doesn't resemble anything close to a starting LB.
  9. I don't care how many lucky late wins Tebow gets, he still sucks. Last weeks win can be credited to one person Marion Barber (Or "god" if you are religious, I'm not)... Fox should get all of the credit, that team is winning with a strong running game and amazing defense, not Tebow. I'd take Fitz any day. I like Cam, but how can you say we would "be in the playoffs no doubt"? Have you looked at Cam Newton's record? He's exciting, and has talent but hasn't exactly gotten that "winning" thing down yet. It's not like the Bills have a better defense or receiving core that they would all the sudden be playoff contender with him...I guess this is just one of those "it's always greener" comments...You are way off however... I'm sure in week 7 you were ready to crown Fitz league MVP and assumed the Bills were superbowl bound too...
  10. I'm not arguing that, now is Spiller's chance to show what he can do...But I'm naturally skeptical as a Bills fan that he can be consistent enough to be a starter. I was just saying I understand why Choice got a few carries, he can at least gain a yard after contact, Spiller can't. I'd love to see Jonny White get a few shots as well. These are basically tryouts for next year at this point. I agree with all of that, Id love for the Bills to pick up a good QB prospect. Fitz is good enough where we don't need an immediate starter. I just don't want to trade away picks to get one.
  11. Jets are champions? of what, the hype bowl? The Bills were one Stevie Johnson drop away from squashing their playoff hopes...
  12. I don't care what his stats say, Maybin sucks, end of story. Sure he has had some success coming in purely to Blitz in passing situations. He is basically a glorified Blitzing DB, he is not a real full time LB and could never even come close to being one. For the Jets he was a worthwhile pickup off the garbage heap. The Bills made the right move in not paying his 1st round pick salaray... Oh yeah, to answer "why can't the Bills find LB coaches like this?" is easy...MONEY...
  13. I definitely see the logic in your post, but I think you have to take into account the self-destruction of the rest of the team. Fitz was lights out the first 7 games of the season...Then the rest of the team fell apart, Jackson, Wood, Jones (even though he sucks), Kyle Williams (yes this matters, losing him and George Wilson completly broke our fragile defense forcing a changed game plan). Losing Jackson and Wood was a huge loss, Jackson was also our most effective receiver... Sure these are excuses, but Fitz is still by FAR the best QB we have had since Bledsoe's one year wonder. There are way bigger problems on this team than Fitz...like GEORGE EDWARDS and the lack of WR and LB depth. I kind of agree with this, but Choice actually looked ok last week. His first game was absolutely horrendous, he just ran around in circles and fell down. While Spiller has shown big play potential, he has also shown he has no ability to run in traffic. He can't break tackles, or even push for a yard. He is one of the weakest RB's in the league. He just isn't starter material, our best hope would be for him to turn into a Sproles type.
  14. I definitely understand where you are coming from, they are cheap no doubt about it. However they did make some pickups that had huge impacts this year. They signed Barnett, by far our best LB. They signed Merriman, even though it has now been confirmed that he is washed up... They picked up Erik Pears who has looked pretty good, and now have signed him again. They also picked up Urbik, who has been better than expected and has now become our starting center. I never understood why Gaily thought we were so strong at WR that he said they didn't even look at them in the draft I thought it was a pretty obvious weak spot. I really like Nelson, but he is a depth guy. SJ is our obvious starter, but the lack of a real #2 has killed us. Donald Jones was awful last year, awful in the pre-season, and awful while he was healthy this season. I never understood the hype there. Brad Smith? Sure he's quick, but his hands are crafted from solid brick... Why didn't we try for Lloyd for a measly 6th round pick? The only look they took was at Buster the Bust Davis, and the mighty Ruvell Martin...
  15. I am fine with taking a QB if a good one is available (decent chance there will be one). We definitely do not have the luxury of being able to trade away picks though. We desperately need quality LB and WR help. Actually the most important thing the Bills can do this off season is dump George Edwards and try to pick up a real DC... This has to be the worst QB comparison I have ever heard...It's pretty obvious you just pulled a random name out of thin air...The two of them couldn't be any different. Fitz is a big physical guy, with no problem initiating contact. Pennington was a weak fragile QB, he had amazing accuracy combined with the weakest arm in the history of NFL football. Fitz has average at best accuracy and a decent arm, his strength is being aggressive and making quick decisions. He can however, through the ball all over the field (even though it's not part of Gailey's system).
  16. Yeah I was a hater before the season started, but he made me a believer. He is no pro-bowler, but he has been very consistent and good in pass protection. A low key, but capable starter on the right side. Hairston looks good at LT. It looks like we will be able to keep these guys together next year...Hopefully they can stay healthy... This offense was good until we lost Wood and Jackson...that was game over...
  17. Posts like this are funny...According to the above post, since we lose, that means all of our players must suck... Let's forget about the injuries, or the fact that we have the worst D-coordinator in NFL history... Confused by this statement...Maybin, and Whitner weren't traded, and still suck (Maybin a part time glorified blitzing DB, Whitner went to a team loaded with D talent and great coaching, he is their weakest link in the secondary. George Wilson was infinitely better while he was healthy). Lynch was traded so that a much better RB could take his place. Yes Lynch is finally starting to look like a real RB 2 years after, but Jackson was the best RB in the league until he got hurt. I consider those to all be good moves (Maybin being cut, Whitner not being signed).
  18. I laughed out loud when I read this. First off, all 4 of those players have played well as a rookie. Dareus is double and triple teamed on almost every play, since the Bills have no one else on the line that is worthy....Even WITH all of that, he is still making plays. After all of the Bills bad 1st round picks we finally have a guy that is worthy...and whiners are still crying. Dareus is playing NT, he is not going to get 15 sacks, he is not going to score TD's...but he IS clogging up the middle, and pushing the pocket back. Actually, he is carrying the ENTIRE defensive line. To blame the bad defense on our best defensive player is just ridiculous. And to say he has made no impact, you and your comment instantly lose all credibility. Newton is 2-8, Miller has Dumervile on the other side, and a great defensive coach. Green looks good, but Dalton has looked good with or without green. I am not doubting the talent of these guys, they look good, as does Dareus... I am among the first to call out a bad draft pick (eg. Troup)...But Dareus is not one of them... Again I must point out as well, Newton and Miller were gone when the Bills picked...Get over it +1...It's ridiculous how quickly people will forget most of the truth in order to make their point. I have a feeling some of these people are just checking out the box scores afterwards, and not even watching the games...
  19. This^...I thought he should have made the active roster...Not Ruvell Martin, who is there SOLELY for special teams. He has decent size with speed, the only of our "prospects" left that has real potential. I have been a Jones hater from day one. He looked OK last year in spot duty, but showed limited ability to get open and absolutely awful hands. This guy can only be better than Jones if he gets a shot. SJ can't get open, and drops passes when he is. Nelson is getting doubled on almost every play. To be competitive we need somebody to step up, this is the only one IMO that could possibly do that. I like Roosevelt too, but he doesn't have real big play ability. I guarantee you will see more use out of Chandler now too... Let us dream, it's going to be a tough 6 games to finish out the season...
  20. I fully support all the points in this post. While I like Stevie, I never thought he was as good as the hype last year. Without another good WR on the team, he doesn't have the size, speed, or skill to get through the double coverage he faces on every play. Plus he has pretty bad hands, always has. He is a decent player, but no super start. I bet he's missing Evans right now... While I was fine with the Evans trade, I was really surprised the Bills didn't attempt bolster their receiving core. Lloyd to the Rams for a 6th really pissed me off. Hoping that the offense could succeed on the backs of Parish, Jones, and Nelson was pretty Naive on Nix's/Gailey's part. I was kind of surprised when Gailey said before the draft that he didn't think the Bills needed to look at WR's. Jones? Really? I mean come on... I despised the Troup pick, and the guy still looks awful. I'm sure people will still line up to defend him, but he hasn't shown even a hint of talent. As a matter of fact I think McCargo looked better than him, you would at least on occasion see him in on a play. Troup just disappears. Also an excellent point. While I think SJ is more average than great, we still do need him. To say he is our best receiver on the team is an understatement, he is practically the only receiver on the team...Spiller is our number 2...
  21. I am not saying that we don't need a receiver...I am saying that before the draft we needed a DT/DE, LB's, WR, QB...We only had 1 pick. Our run defense was one of the worst run defenses I have ever seen last year. While it hasn't been great, it has been MUCH better than last year. Dareus has made a huge impact, despite losing some key players, whether you want to acknowledge that or not. Your logic is just simply off. To ignore our biggest need, when a rare player like Dareus is available and say "why bother improving the last ranked run defense" is just ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I support you in wanting a good receiver. It is a huge need for the Bills NOW. Don't forget though, during the draft we had Evans, Easley, and Jones on top of Stevie Jackson. The most important thing here....this is meaningless hindsight...
  22. Yeah, I'm not buying any of this...People love the what if this...what if that... arguments. KW, Merriman, and Kelsey got hurt, and we have a god awful D-coordinator that makes Dick Jauron look like a coaching genius. Green looked good, but Dalton threw for almost 400 yards without him against the Ravens last week. You could argue it is as much Dalton as green... You could also say Newton would have been a better pick, or Miller for his pass rushing...Of course if we drafted any of those guys, you would be on here saying we should have taken Dareus over them, since the "what if's" are always better...
  23. It seems like we are getting a lot of these posts lately with people saying "man I wish we had Miller, or Newton, or Green...". I don't get it, Dareus has been great IMO, even though the defense around him is awful (not to mention the worst d-coordinator in history). It's a similar situation to KW last year. His position isn't going to get him TD's, or 20 sacks, but it is scary to think how bad our D would be without him. It's easy to say "wow how great would Green or Miller be" now that we have had all these receiver injuries, and Merriman is done... This is the first 1st round pick in a LONG time that I can remember that ISN'T a bust, and people are STILL complaining. Dareus is solid, and was a good pick. We could have used any or all of the first 5 picks in the draft, but we only get 1...
  24. IMO, because he just isn't good. Hairston looks to have a much higher ceiling than Bell, and so far has been pretty good. People have a love affair with Bell, but he just can't stay healthy, and even when he is plays very inconsistently. Huge difference between Bell and Wood (although they have both been injury prone). Wood is actually solid at his position, and an NFL quality starter. We saw evidence of that last week. The Bill's couldn't come close to using their style of running game without Wood last week. He should get a lot of credit for Jackson's great season. We saw how bad the Bills O looked with Levitre at center (not blaming him, he isn't a center). Wood helps the team, Bell does not.
  25. Wow, what a laugher. If we had drafted Miller, only to be gouged for 200 yards per game like last year, you be saying the exact opposite. Yeah Newton has surprised people, and I like him but don't get carried away...His team is 2-7, and while he started out hot passing, his stats have become very pedestrian lately. Miller looks great as a pass rusher, I don't dispute that. But Dareus has been a beast against the run and picked up some sacks him self. BTW, Dareus has played a lot more DE than NT for us. If you haven't noticed that while watching these games I have to seriously question your knowledge of football. We could have used any of the 3 of those guys, or all of them. Unfortunately we only have one pick, and he's doing just fine....
