If he get's pneumonia it's all over. Elderly folk, especially a 93 year old, rarely recover from pneumonia. I've lost some relatives that way. Luckily, I have heard no mention of that though. What they have said is he has a "minor infection". Of course we all know that at his age, nothing is minor, the long hospital stay is evidence of that. When I think of what the nurses in a Detroit hospital must look like, "hot" isn't the word that comes to mind...

Some great match ups in week 1 of the NFL
Turbosrrgood replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree about everything except saying the Cowboys are "rejuvenated". They seem to have more red flags than ever. Very iffy O-line, scant WR depth behind Dez Bryant (Austin Miles appears to have been a one year wonder). Plus they play in what looks to be a very tough division as always with the Giants and Eagles....All that doesn't take away from the fact that it IS a good match up though, and I can't wait to watch. While Wilson has been fun to watch so far, I think it's tough to say the Seahawks and Cards are a good matchup. Arizona looks awful, and the Seahawks look to be competitors for once. -
Jets working out Derek Haggan
Turbosrrgood replied to Tom stahl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup, although I'm sure (or at least hope) the Bills thought of this possibility long ago. I doubt Hagan has a ton of info to even give them, he was almost certainly not involved in much if any Jets game planning. Also, keep in mind the Jets are very weak at WR. In this case they could really be looking at him to fill a need. -
Bills bring back Ruvell Martin
Turbosrrgood replied to nichebiche's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent point, losing Brooks meant losing a ST'r. Our 5th WR is rarely going to see the field on passing downs (Spiller/Smith/Chandler will be in before him), but with Brooks out will be counted on for ST's. I'm sure this is the reasoning behind Nix/Gailey's decision. Also excellent points, not much I can even add to that... -
Would you watch a "bronze medal" game?
Turbosrrgood replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly...Actually I think it would mean less to the players...You've already lost, yet you have to play again anyway...The Pro Bowl is at least an honor, and is generally free of hard hits, penalties, and injuries. -
Would you watch a "bronze medal" game?
Turbosrrgood replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whether I would watch it or not is one thing (I can't resist football). But I would hate the idea of a team "winning" 3rd place. Places matter in the regular season, in the post season there should be only the SB winner, and those who did not win the SB. What would be a better idea IMO, would be watching the two worst teams play for the #1 overall pick. WINNER getting the 1st overall, so that the game wouldn't be a tank fest. Obviously this would never happen, but it would have some meaning, and I would like it better than a "bronze medal" game. -
Cromartie is ridiculously overrated. Yes Revis is amazing, best CB in the league no doubt. Cromartie is a gambler, makes plays sometimes, gives up huge plays others. Since Revis plays on an island, Cromartie has help on virutally every play over the top. He can certainly be beat. To your point though, other than SJ our receivers suck. Theirs may suck even more though. I thought DJ actually looked pretty decent in the preseason, maybe he can surprise people this year? Last year he was concussed badly in the preseason, then struggled before getting hurt again. For him it's all about hands, can he actually catch the ball reliably?
-
No thanks, if he can't stick with talent starved offenses in Seattle and Tampa, that speaks volumes. Besides, Chandler brings more to the table. Taller, bigger, better hands, better person, more reliable. It is pretty funny though that we get a new post for virtually every player with a recognizable name that gets cut in the NFL...

Bradham taking first team reps
Turbosrrgood replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting, I wouldn't read too much into it though. This is Moats's first year as a 4-3 OLB, they probably want to make sure they have the backups ready in case of injury or struggles. I didn't think Bradham looked particularly good this preseason, so I doubt he's really being looked at to replace Moats (unless Moats has any more of those "olays" that he had in the last game...). I was a big Moats detractor, but with the exception of getting destroyed on one play last game I thought he looked pretty decent all training camp. The coaches were singing his praise as well. I doubt Moats will be called on to cover Keller too often as the strong side backer. We also kept Bryan Scott solely to be a TE "specialist". -
when brooks goes to ir...
Turbosrrgood replied to MARCELL DAREUS POWER's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I think the Bills have to be thinking about adding another wide out with they way Gailey loves to spread it out. I doubt they are looking at any of the guys they just cut though (maybe Roosevelt). I think they would be looking for someone either proven to be more talented, or with more upside than the guys we had. Sorry, but Easley, Hagan, and Roosevelt have all had time to prove they belong...They haven't.... Maybe they look at a Gaffney, or a young prospect that was a victim of waivers? The Bills kept 6 Corners (surprise to me), 4 Safeties, and Bryan Scott. They don't "need" a CB by any stretch, especially for week 1 against the Jet's. Of Course they don't really NEED a WR either, with Smith...And with Spiller who will almost certainly see time at WR. The problem is if either SJ, Nelson, or Jones get's hurt we have NO ONE capable of stepping up into those roles. Graham might be able to play the slot, but he is somewhat of a project I think and doesn't have nearly the hands or red zone ability Nelson does. Smith, well he's an "emergency" backup at both WR and QB. McKelvin and Rogers could step if needed I think, and they obviously think McGee is healthy enough to contribute. -
He's not? He started last year at LT, and if you check the line up opening day Im sure he will be starting at RT. Even if you dont care about lynch or asper (even though thats what you commented on), the points about Nixs drafts still stand.
-
sorry man, you are all over the place on this thread. You seem angry that asper was claimed, yet you claim nix's picks are awful. Cleary the vikes thought asper was good enough to make their roster, validating the quality of that pick. You are arguing against yourself. Also, Gilmore, williams, sheppard, dareus, glenn, and hairston are all starting for the bills this year, drafted by nix in the last two drafts. Guys are also raving about Brooks and rogers. The evidence seems to point to him doing ok... The 2010 draft was a modrak draft Also, I think most people would agree FJ is better than lynch. Im not sure what youre so mad about.

Thigpen is temporary, and Smith is listed as both a QB and Kicker (smith is more receiver than QB anyway). TJ has had all of 5 days to learn the Bills offense. Once he is caught up, Thigpen is as good as gone (2-3 weeks)? Also, I think the Bills will have their eyes set on OTHER TEAMS CUTS. Other teams have cut WR's better than most of the guys on our roster, let alone our cuts. This roster is still likely to change before the regular season, and as it goes on.

Easy man. There is still the PS. Carder clearly was not clearly was not NFL ready, and think he has a solid shot at the PS (despite his comments which made it seem like him and the Bills are parting ways). Asper I think is certainly PS bound, but even so, the dude was just a 6th round pick. 5-7th round picks commonly don't make their teams. Carder was one of the biggest myths to hit TBD in a long time. He literally did nothing impressive all of training camp. He showed some instincts and quickness, but looks like a boy among men. He is small and plays like it, he had real trouble tackling the big boys of the NFL. Dwan Edwards was almost automatic as a cut, since he was due to make MORE than Dareus or Kyle Williams this year. Carrington staying was somewhat of a surprise considering his sparse playing time. Also McGee, as others have mentioned they might use roster tricks to keep him around. Potter was almost automatic, I believe all of his kickoff's were TB's. Something Lindell never could do. I was a little surprised at only 5 WR's including Smith. I think that indicates that Spiller will be seeing a lot of time split out, and the Bills may be combing roster cuts for better WR options. Let's face, our WR's were just awful. People loved Roosevelt and Easley, but these guys simple aren't even in consideration on other teams. I doubt they are picked up. You may see more WR's added after a week or two once TJ is caught up, Thigpen could be dropped. Hearing Brooks was hurt is a disappointment. But I think we have the depth at CB where we aren't hurt too bad by that. Those saying we kept Howell because of CB injuries are wrong I believe. Howell is a safety (who played very well IMO), and is basically Byrd's backup. Is Pears starting the season on PUP? If not Young is probably toast when Pears is healthy.

Carder vs McKillop (vs Morrison)
Turbosrrgood replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Carder is the newest TBD myth. The guy certainly has not looked NFL ready yet. Currently he is the 5th string MLB on the team behind Shep, Morrison, McKillop/Bradham. Carder has had almost no time in preseason games, and what time he's had has been at the very end of games against guys who aren't even likely to be on NFL rosters. I'm not smashing Carder. I think he shows some very good instincts, and plays very quickly. He just plays very small, and has trouble tackling NFL players. If he bulks up and works on his technique he could be a good player in the future. For now he almost assured a PS spot IMO. He's basically what you'd expect from a 5th round pick. A guy that needs some development. Unfortunately Bradham hasn't looked very good either. Too bad the post draft hype doesn't always equal reality. I thought Morrison has looked like the best MLB on the team, and McKillop has played well also. Chances are though, McKillop is out and Bradham is in. -
Again, so confused by these comments. What are you basing that on? He was our best CB last year when healthy IMO (He had 1 injury that kept him out the first half of the season. And yes, best out of a bad group). So far he was beat exactly once deep this preseason (Even though he was all over the WR), and has only allowed a handful of catches. Yes he is young. So if he shouldn't start, who? Brooks (rookie)? Yes he has looked very good...against 2nd/3rd stringers. He did however get beat in that Steelers game, as AW did not. McKelvin? We've seen what he can do...Rogers? The 2nd year guy who missed almost all of training camp to this point, the 6th round pick from last year that only played a handful of downs at Nickle (never started)? McGee, who can't even walk right now? McGee and McKelvin are the only guy with MORE experience than AW on the team and it's unlikely either of them are starting candidates. I'm just saying, there is a reason the coaching staff is playing it this way. He's simply the best option. A little more info about the steelers game. Gilmore was beat 4 times on one drive alone, once for a TD. Williams allowed 1 11 yard reception the entire game (played 1 half). Not bashing Gilmore, just saying the AW criticism is unjustified to this point, let's just see how he does. It's a very young secondary, there will be growing pains.

Sorry, I think you are off on your first point. I'm diagnosing you with a common illness, chronic Kelsay hate. You are certainly right about Kelsay not having quickness, particularly agility to get to the QB. But if he's proven anything, it's that he has plenty of power to push the pocket. Last year opposing QB's could just run to the other side where there was zero push of any kind. This year he will help flush QB's to Williams and the rest of the D-line (as he has done consistently all preseason, certainly more so than Anderson), or at least keep them from moving out of the pocket. I'm fine with Anderson too, but Kelsay might be the perfect complement to Williams this year when he is in the game. Kelsay also plays the run well. On the other points, somehow AW has turned into the new McKelvin (as a whipping boy), and I don't know why. Yes teams are attacking him, and for the most part he has done very well (1 catch allowed last week for 11 yards). Brooks got beat a few times by the second team, but now is touted as a replacement (I still like him as much as everyone else). Sheppard is a concern IMO, I highly doubt Barnett is even considered for the middle spot. We don't have anyone that can play weakside LB like him except Scott, who is really a safety. Morrison would be the best bet to play MLB if Shep can't handle it, since Moats apparently has the strong side locked down.
-
I don't think our secondary, is a weak link at all. All I see are strengths back there, all the way through the dime spot. AW was terrific against the Steelers, he allowed 1 catch on an 11 yard fade pattern at their own 20 yard line (strange play to begin with). He was however beat deep on a play that the WR dropped. I have noticed that the Bills seem to get beat pretty consistently when they play zone, those play calls haven't been working out too well so far. I think our weak link would certainly be LB. We have Barnett, who looks good to me, and Moats for the first time ever as a 4-3 LB on the other side. I will admit Moats looks pretty good so far, but he's still raw. Sheppard has some real improving to do in the middle IMO.
-
Terrific is a strong word, but yes McKelvin has played well this preseason. Why? Because playing nickle allows him to make plays IN FRONT of him. On deep plays he simply has no instincts, and is clueless as to how to defend the ball. However he is very athletic and quick, and when the ball is in front of him, he can see and read the action, and make some very nice plays. IMO, it's clear he cannot be a good starting QB in this league based on his lack of ball awareness over top. However I've always thought he could succeed at nickle, because he's proven he can play well when the play is in front of him.

Would you feel better about this team if Vick was QB?
Turbosrrgood replied to mike6683's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, I would feel so much WORSE if Michael Vick was on this team. First off, Vick is dirtbag. Secondly, he can't stay healthy for more than a few games at a time at best. Thirdly, any QB (with the exception of VY), has looked good throwing in Andy Reid's system (McNabb, Kolb, Vick, Foles, heck even Trent Edwards looked good last week). Vick would look every bit as bad as Vince Young playing for the Bills, then he would get hurt leaving us with Jackson or Thigpen. I can't emphasize enough the system there...Think about it, guys like McNabb, Kolb, Kafka, and Foles have all looked fantastic there...But they are not. Clearly McNabb was awful after leaving Philly. Kolb has looked awful in AZ. Vick was pretty bad with Atlanta. It's all the system. Actually, watching Foles play, he is probably a better fit for them than Vick. -
"really excited"? No. Happy to see some young depth step up, yes. I think Moore is mostly hype at this point, but I certainly think Gilbert has shown something. Slim chance at best that Carrington makes it. He just doesn't fit this defense, and has had almost no playing time. His only chance would be if Dwan Edwards get's cut (still a possibility since he is our highest paid D tackle). However Dwan has played well this pre-season, and it looks like the Bills may keep him. He also would have to beat out Heard, who also probably won't make the team.
-
This was inevitable. He clearly wasn't even close to healthy, yet he pushed and pushed himself. It's a credit to the guy that he tried as hard as he did this offseason, and played last week despite not being healthy. McGee has been one of my favorite Bills for both his play and his attitude, but it looks like his football time is done. Maybe if he get's healthy as the season goes on, he could be considered as an injury replacement if necessary.
-
I think what you were reading is teams that didn't take them OFF of PUP, meaning they have to miss the first 6 weeks (such as Jahvid Best). I won't claim to be an expert on PUP, so I certainly could be wrong. I did read this on the PUP wiki though. "A player who, as a result of football-related injuries, is unable to take part in training camp practices may be assigned to the preseason PUP list. Players can be moved off the PUP list to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player cannot be placed on the PUP list, however, once he has taken the field for a practice, even if only for a few minutes." http://en.wikipedia....able_to_Perform
