  1. Like Lee Evans!
  2. It is a tough situation for the Bills. These players have not won games for them in the last 10 seasons. Expecting the Bills to throw huge money at them without them proving themselves is foolish, especially considering from where these players originated. They turned the corner in 1st 4 games of the 2nd half of the year only to disappoint in the final 4 games of the season. There just has been no consistency. They are also yet to defeat any of your powerhouses, the only close thing being the OT loss to Steelers (Kansas City is not a powerhouse). It is 2-0 and now we are playing a top echelon team in the Patriots. If you win this game and continue to be consistent, the players will definitely be taken care. It is a very unique situation. After all, on the flip side if you think about this, the Bills have done a huge favor to this bunch of players by giving them an OPPORTUNITY to start in the NFL instead of being banished as 3rd stringers and ST players as normal 7th rounders are. Fitzpatrick - 7th round draft pick, played as 3rd stringer for St. Louis and Cincinnati. Jackson - Un-drafted, NFL Europe player Johnson - 7th round draft choice Bell - 7th round draft choice Once the team starts showing the consistency, I believe most of these players will be taken care. It is a two-way street. The Bills have to show some faith in them and not send out a low-ball offer. The players also have to understand the opportunity they received from the Bills and not go for the sky. If the two sides can meet in between in a "team-concept" environment, they are likely to be successful in their signing of contracts and keeping these players for the long term, which provides continuity and which in turn will lead to consistent success. This is what the best teams like the Steelers and Patriots do. In the last decade, Hines Ward has never been the highest paid WR in the league in spite of being Super Bowl MVP, Tom Brady in the 1st half of his career was never the highest paid QB in the league. I don't think Todd Light received anywhere close to even matching the pay of the top 5 LTs in the game and yet he has protected the blind side of Brady for his entire career. From the past history, the Bills have never low-balled anyone. Pat Williams was not offered a contract because Greg Williams was arrogant and did not want FAT players. London Fletcher left the Bills because Dick Jauron did not want him to play in his stupid cover-2 scheme and Marv drafted Poz for that position. The Bills offered 9-10M per year for Jason Peters who really had one good season and Peters wanted to be the highest paid LT in the league. That is a one way negotiation. The Bills hands were tied. They did not want to give him 12M a year, because they did not believe he was the leagues best LT and there were very few LTs that actually were making 9-10M a year. It almost felt that Peters wanted to get out of Buffalo. The Bills did not even get a chance to offer a contract to Poz, as his mind was really set in playing MLB in a 4-3 instead of the 3-4. Donte Whitner was given a shot at a fair offer that was turned down by Whitner. And as the market proved, there were no takers for Whitner. Whitner did not show the commitment to be a buffalo bill, so why should the Bills be tortured for that. The Bills have offered competitive money to their Punter and Kicker who have been their 2-best players in the last decade, showing once again that if you perform, you will be taken care.
  3. Stats line from last years two games against the Pats CAR YDS AVG TD Game 1: B Green-Ellis 16 98 6.1 1 TD Woodhead 3 42 14.0 1 TD Game 2: B. Green-Ellis 19 104 5.5 0 D. Woodhead 13 93 7.2 1 That is anything but MEDIOCRE! In Game 2, the Patriots had 12 Rushing first downs compared to 7 Passing first downs. The Bills will get punished, if they ignore stopping the run. Sure we gave away the ball 7 times in that game, but that is what the Pats have done to us.
  4. Brad Smith can play Roscoe's position....I am still mad at Brad for not throwing to two wide open receivers...That was 6 points...
  5. That is leadership.....You can never see a Poz or Kelsay ever doing that and getting the respect of the younger player...Barnett and Merriman are players we can definitely do with. Great game..I am glad it is over and we came out on the top. Now on to the Patriots...that offense is firing on all cylinders and the Lawyer Ben Jarvis Ellis has given fits to this Bills defense in the last 3 games going over 100 yards...The Bills need some breaks in this game. Is this the game where Brad Smith replaces Parrish and plays a more dominant role. BTW, Dave Nelson is the best clutch player this team has had since the days of Steve Tasker playing WR, even better than Josh Reed. Playing in a winning program with a winning QB makes a world of difference in his confidence and there seems to be a big chemistry between him and Fitz. Now is this OL up to the task of taking on Vince Wilfork, Haynesworth and Ellis. Belichek's defense has always confused us and never let us get in rhythm. Can this line block as well against the Pats.
  6. OK...Here..I will get it over with it....Ralph is Cheap! Looks like the Colts, Seahawks, Dolphins and the Vikings are in the thick of Andrew Luck Race.
  7. What was amazing was that they stopped the run in the second half (Pass defense was a complete joke as Campell was completing every single pass in the 2nd half). Not sure if the Bills made an adjustment or if the Raiders chose to not run the ball. Even after the Bills scored the TD on the opening drive of the 2nd half, the Raiders were still up by 11 and it would have been prudent to continue running the ball. There was absolutely no pass rush today. They feared McFadden so much that they let Campbell sit in the pocket and shred our secondary to pieces. The Bills are committed to stopping the run and have done a good job in the two games and have forced the QB to beat them. Today, our offense was better than theirs and hence the win. I have been saying this for a while. Nelson is a winner and knows how to win ball games. All he does on the field is make plays. He is our Hines Ward...Unassuming, but does his job. He is a clutch player and I think he is Fitz's go to guy on 3rd downs..Definitely has the football "IT".
  8. Martin was atrocious today....He dropped every ball thrown to him...We had quite a few drives stalled due to him.
  9. Any update on Urbik's injury.
  10. It was very strange call to go for the FG on 4th and inches in your own backyard....especially having someone like Brad Smith to run the wild cat...Simply unbelievable.
  11. Ralph is Cheap Eerie County is Cheap The Bills Fans are Cheap The Corporates in Buffalo are Cheap
  12. Another point that is forgotten is the coaching turnstile. I believe Mike Williams had 3 OL coaches in his 4 seasons...whereas Whitner has mainly seen the same DC for his 1st 4 seasons before Edwards replaced Perry. At that time, I believe that was another reason attributed to Williams failure to succeed in the NFL. McGahee, Whitner, McCargo, Losman, Lynch, McKelvin and the list goes on...
  13. Even last year we were even as both Offense and Defense was miserable...WE average 16 points a game...which is pretty crappy... WE are still even this year, except both the sides have improved.
  14. The Bills won because they were balanced. They played great special teams, ran the ball well and controlled the clock (37 minutes), did not make any mistakes (turnovers), and caused turnovers. These are good recipes for winning a ball game. If they can repeat that and be balanced on phases of the game, we will win.
  15. Everything is not just about some statistical analysis. Though numbers don't lie, they also can be interpreted at each one's convenience. This is simply not sufficient. The success of a draft is felt by the impact made by the player on the team. For example, a Donte Whitner played for the Bills for five full seasons. Does it mean draft success...as he had no visible impact on the success of the team.
  16. He reminds me of the other Davis....Kenneth Davis of our own Buffalo Bills.
  17. or to Nelson. Nelson is turning out to be my favorite player on offense...very unassuming, but makes the clutch catches to keep the chains moving...Nelson is very underrated and will emerge into a very consistent player like a Hines Ward or Wes Welker.
  18. Sort of like the Lee Evans story. How to Impact your team without being an impact.
  19. Other advantages for the Bills: - A sellout Home Opener will be charged up, especially after that 1st week blowout - Short week of practice for the Raiders and a trip across the country - Start of game @1p.m making it a 10 A.M start for the WC Campbell can throw the deep ball, but at the same time can be rattled with some pressure. Close game indeed.
  20. The Super Bowl days were surely glory days..... I will keep to the best moment to recent times....Just 3 seasons ago..... Week 1 - Beat up a hapless Seattle, sort of like the blow out this Sunday against the Chiefs Week 2 - Go to Jacksonville and beat them with a game winning TD Week 3 - Oakland - Down all day, but make a great drive at the end of the game for the game winner Week 4 - @ Rams - Another easy win after stuttering in the 1st quarter. Week 5 Week 6 - Beat San Diego, a quality team, with a very balanced attack. Edwards was awesome after coming back from the concussion. This was also the weird game where the power went off taking the scoreboard with it. The guys were playing football like Street football...only call signs. Our defense made great plays to We were 5-1 and top of the world. Everyone said that we just need to go .500 rest of the 10 games and playoffs was a sure thing with a 10 win season...We won 2 games the rest of the way and spiraled to another classic Dick Jauronish 7-9 season.. But on that Autumn Sunday, we were all on top of the world with a 5-1 record....Best moments indeed.
  21. Last years game against the Steelers...I am sitting surrounded by Steelers fans including my wife and kids and when they showed the shot of Fitz throwing a beauty and Johnson in the end zone, I jumped like hell amidst groans surrounding me, only to change into cheers a split later......It took me 5 seconds to realize that Johnson had dropped the ball untouched.....and that was it.....I had a tough time sitting in that room after that.
  22. Phil Hansen, the very much under appreciated DE of the golden era is going on the Wall this Sunday afternoon. It should be a pretty emotional moment. Phil, who was a very good player in his own right let all the accolades go to the guy on the other end but made his own presence felt in many games. Phil is very similar to another player who will be on the field defending the Bills...Kyle Williams.....If he keeps up how he is playing, one day he will also make it to that Wall.
  23. Also the time of the game may hurt the Raiders. This is a 1 P.M game, meaning 10.00 WC time. Anyways, it will a good and close game just like the last time the Raiders were in town. At that time, Edwards managed to make some great plays down the stretch to win the game for the Bills. Hope Fitz can pull the same magic.
  24. Kelly, You are probably right that Lee did not drop any of the passes, but the OP was way over to say that the Ravens won because Lee was able to let them stretch the field. The Ravens won because of so many other factors...Having Lee Evans was just one of them, albeit a small one. 25. Simon, Living in Pittsburgh for the past decade, I have watched every game of the Ravens-Steelers rivalry. Lee may have helped the Ravens stretch the field and move coverage away from the likes of Boldin and Ray Rice and give them the room to make plays. However, teams don't sign a #1/#2 WRs to be just decoys. They expect them to catch balls thrown towards them. Lee dropped balls. BTW, You are giving too much credit to Lee for this big win for the Ravens. The big reason the Ravens won was because they rushed for 175+ yards against an AGING Steelers defense and the Ravens defense created 7 turnovers. The Ravens turned the Steelers offense to one dimensional and then harassed Ben Rothelisberger.. Remember the Ravens took a 3 TD lead into half time last season too, only for Flacco to make mental mistakes and throw away that game. Lee is definitely a great addition to that team (and for Lee himself), but he was not the big reason for their win on Sunday.
