Right now if a guy is worth 10M, he will ask the Bills to give him 12M to sign with them. In a few days, if the guy's market worth is 5M, the Bills can still get him by paying 6M.

May be the Bills never invited them. Who knows ?

If you're going to start a rookie QB in 2013 . . .
ganesh replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fitz is not a starting QB...24 hours since he was let go, I don't see teams clamoring to sign him as their starter. Urbik is our starting RG and not Reinhart. Reinhart got a 1 year deal to be a backup. Not signing Levitre hurts. But I think the Bills made a decision to save that money for re-signing Byrd, Wood and Spiller in the next two years. If they can sign a couple of FA for the defense in the coming days, then thety can select a guard in Rd 3 to replace Leivtre. ERic wood (while injured) means a lot more to this team than anyone else on that line. Wood cnanot be pushed back into the pocket and that gives a huge comfort for the QB to make his reads and throw. The biggest question mark is: Who is going to be the QB? Will they get a shot at Geno or Barkley and would either of them be ready to be the starter on Opening day. +1. Eric Wood means a lot more to this OL and is also the natural leader. Hoping for him to have a remaining injury-free career with the Bills for a long time like Kent Hull. He is a natural at that position. -
Bills biggest potential FA addition - Marrone, Petine

It is the season of Hope! -
I think the Bills are going to let the market cool down and take their shots at filling the other gaping holes. They would have to assume that the difference in talent level between all the hyped up players making the big bucks on day One and the ones sitting under the radar is probably not that big and they would rather wait to have the market cool down and negotiate with these players in their (Bills) terms rather than the players. Many of the other teams are doing nothing too...The Steelers who released many players like us have not been making any splash. Teams do not win the SB by making a splash on day 1 of FA...Just ask the 2011 and 2012 Eagles teams.

Yes and with our other first round bust DE.

If have a rookie QB directing us to a 8-8 record and with luck the balls bounces our way to another two wins, it will be a fantastic achieved and will go on to prove that whatever talent you have, it is up to the coaching staff to put it together. -
Fitz was 7-20 after he signed the contract. The bad part was that Nix gave him a 60M contract (21M guaranteed) after going 5-2....So foolhardy!
-
+1. And it is time to put some heat on Kyle Williams too. He is part of the problem of being #31 against the run
-
Dockery signed a *7 year 49M contract* with *13M in guaranteed money*. Also, Dockery was going to make only 18M over the first three years of the contract. I don't believe Levitre's deal is anywhere close to that deal.

He can thank the Buffalo Bills for making that dream come true!!

They could replace with Patterson...But then they just gave up Harvin for a 1st rounder and then have to give 2 first rounders to get a rookie seems a little bizarre. Unless they see value in pass rushers at #8, I don't see them doing this trade.
-
But Pat also was *ONLY* effective when he had Ted Washington by his side (in Buffalo) and the other Williams (in Minnesota). I still think he was a good player and should not have been let go. Greg Williams made too much noise and little to show for it. Can you also get Eddie Robinson Please!

His best season as a Pro was with the Bills: In Buffalo, Spikes had his best seasons as a pro. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and earned a first-team All NFL honor in 2004. In that season he recorded 99 total tackles, three sacks, five interceptions, two touchdowns, 18 pass deflections and four forced fumbles. I don't believe any of the bills LBs since Takeo's departure has that kind of presence in the middle of the defense. Thanks for your time Takeo.

Brad Smith and probably Ryan Lindell if they find a good kicker in training camp to compete

Is Kyle Moore an effective 3-4 linebacker?

I would keep Carrington just for all those FG blocks...He was simply amazing. And with this pressure defense, he has the best chance of getting to the passer. -
How Bad Would It Be For The Bills To Sign Matt Moore,
ganesh replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But thankfully with the rookie salary cap in place, we can always draft another QB in next years draft even if the one from this year fails to meet expectation. Until you keep drafting them we are not going to succeed. -
And if they did that and retain him to be primary Kick returner, I hope they cut Brad Smith soon. There is really no room for Smith and his 15M contract on this roster.
-
Rex Ryan is not "one of the greatest D coaches around". On the other hand, Phillips teams know how to stop the Run every year.

The key is "assuming I would not be able to find another job that would pay me at my current rate". I don't believe Fitz is thinking that he cannot be a starter in this league besides in Buffalo. I am sure he believes he could start (besides Buffalo) for Arizona, Cleveland, Jacksonville, Oakland etc. And even if he were to take a substantial pay cut to be a backup, may be he wants to be a backup on a super-bowl bound team like Atlanta or Denver or may be he wants to be a backup on a team like Philadelphia whose starting QB is injury prone and likely to miss games. Finally, if you were not just asked to take a pay cut, but also asked to demote yourself in your role in the company, I highly doubt people will stay in that job forever.

I disagree. Even with Peyton Manning, Dungy was able to win just one SB against a weak Chicago team. Even Bill Cowher is a little overrated. He could win a SB only after having an elite QB who did not make mistakes and played like a champion in those playoff games.
-
Wade Phillips is a master of the 3-4 defense. Pettine is still a young pup learning the tricks...
-
Yup... A decent coach that is not over his head with a Elite QB will always be in the running for the championship.....However, I don't know if the Bills had a "decent coaching staff" last year...The coaching staff with their own play calling probably ruined an equal number of games as much as the pathetic QB play from Fitzpatrick. Some good examples are Tony Dungy, Lovie Smith, Wisenhunt, Andy Reid are all decent coaches who can compete if they have the right QB. However, I doubt Gailey and his coaching staff could have done any better with a better QB.
