Mock free agency and draft
BillsFan17 replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd pass on Waynes and Agholor, the draft isnt bad tho. Love the Mims pick. -
Its extremely hyperbolic to assume a WR was the difference between a win and a lose. Hopkins is a game changer and didnt do a damn thing until the second half, after having fumbled earlier in the game. There were a lot of elements to that game that really hurt the Bills outside of WR. Telling me we were a WR away from winning, despite having TDs taken away, despite phantom penalties, despite Allen crumbling in the fourth, despite all these other things, a WR would not have absolutely changed the outcome of the game.

Very strong post, well written and very very good points. I see what you are driving at here and you make a lot of very valid points. I concede you are correct here. That being said, could we also say the depth beyond the top of the 2014 class wasnt nearly as much as this class? Yes, the top performers of that class mostly panned out, but again, the depth of the class has to come into account...

1) The Bills are absolutely not a WR away from being a contender. Our own GM stated we are not one player away. 2) Most of the FAs are being tagged, and gauging by the Pro Bowl, most FAs stated Buffalo wasnt really a preferred destination. You can use whatever gif you want, but you absolutely can not disprove either point.

Trading up for a WR in the draft is bad assets management. -
And the margin between first and second round bust rates is? Not large at all. At a position that is among the highest bust rate, arguing that 1) the top three is so sure fired thing giving up more assets assures a lower bust rate-instead of adding ample expectations to produce at the level of capital spent on you. And statistically, throughout history, more likely one of them ends up living up to it, maybe two. So, making sure you nail which one that is, in no way is a lower bust rate. 2) The difference between bust rate and round is real, agreed, but again marginal. Especially when it's hard to call a third or fourth rounder a bust. Considering the level of expectations. Moreover, again, with the trends we have seen, the field has produced as well, if not better than the first rounders. If I trade up to get one of the three, let's say Jeudy Gives me 64 receptions 850 yards 10 TDs, but the cost of moving up was significant (Calvin Ridley rookie numbers 1st rounder) Or Say someone like Peoples-Jones in the second gives 42 receptions 704 yards 5 TDs (Sutton rookie numbers 2nd rounder) but I was also able to land a a premier talent in the first like Fulton, or Gross-Matos, or Thomas, whatever spec tickles your fancy, along with the rest of my capital. * worth noting Sutton had the better second season of the two. Sure, the production from Jeudy would look at lot better, but for me not going to be worth the capital (especially at WR) when I know it's entirely possible a second, or even third round pick will give me similiar production. The Bills are not a WR away from being a contending team, they are not going to to lure top tier FAs, nor should they throw every penny at FAs. They have to be judicial with their money. In turn, if you decide you want to move up in this class it better be for the trenches and not WR.

Now, see I can absolutely get behind trading up for Chaisson, I think that kid has upper echelon talent. Also, I think the drop off in pass rushing talent is fairly considerable. Gross-Matos and to an extent Baun are solid late first/early second rounders, but to me after Young (who is just beyond in a class of his own) there is Chaisson and then some solid specs. When looking beyond the top guys- the pool of the edge rushers doesnt stack up to talent pool of WRs for me. Reagor, Aiyuk, Shenault, Jefferson, Higgins, Peoples-Jones, Hamler, Edwards, Claypool, etc... Moreover, edge rusher to me is second to QB in terms of premium positions. Thus, you can justify using the capital to obtain one easier than you could a WR.

Film Study article Antoine Winfield Jr.

Dugger is the kid who really sticks out, but Winfield has some traits that make you really like him as a spec. -
I never denied Beane doesnt make moves. That's not the point, the point was, I said Beane pointed out that there was great depth at the WR position, so much so that he felt its entirely possible a day three guy could come in any take a starters job. That was a quote about this years class, about this years WRs, and his sentiment about the depth of the class. Showing me his feelings about approaching the draft in 2018, in no way indicates to me hell likely trade up for one of the top three guys in the 2020 class. Is it possible, I'm sure it is, Beane moves around. McDermott twice traded up when be ran the draft for Zay/Dion. Again, I'm saying its impossible. I simply point out I think it's bad asset management. However, again, I'm talking about potentially waiting because 1) history has been on the side of guys producing all throughout the draft at WR. Especially in recent years. 2) Our own GM having referenced the depth RECENTLY AND ABOUT THIS DRAFT. 3) I sincerely doubt they value WR in the same light they value QB/MLB. Which, again, when you look at the context of making bold trades in the first round. Premium positions...

Using a Jennifer Lawrence gif further proves my point. You have brought nothing to table to discredit anything I have said. I show facts about the production level of WRs across multiple drafts/rounds, you bring nothing I show quotes about our own GM and other media members discussing the depth of this draft and the potential to wait on them, you bring an article from 2018, which lacks any context to this draft or the players even discussed in this thread. Then parade around like you are smarter about the subject at hand. If Beane moves up for a WR in this class, especially due to its depth its poor asset management, barring the cost being exceptionally low in order to move up.
-
Lmao yes, cause context matters, the situations matter, the state the team is in from then to now matters. How the GM approaches one draft, and the positions absolutely bears context year to year. Unless of course you expect Beane to trade up for a QB/LB again this year... Again, you have also yet to prove where I was wrong in WRs beyond the first round being as productive if not more than those taken ahead of them. You're child who doesnt like facts.
-
Bye And yes the landscape has changed, and I'm willing to bet so has Beanes draft approach. Especially considering as your acting like unanimously contextual, why didn't beane take Ridley instead of Edmunds? Maybe because MLB is a position of higher value and worthy of trading up for? Or how thin the position was beyond Edmunds, like he alluded to with having drafting Oliver, and how thin the 3 tech position was during his class, thus being less likely to wait and possibly find one later. Trying to act like the approach of a team who was at the begging of a rebuild will be the same now, especially at a position group where the same guy you are quoting has stated the incredible depth...

Chris Harris met with 24 teams at the combine
BillsFan17 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Same thing with rumours about Rivers and the Colts having mutual interest. I think the whole tampering thing is overblown. If these teams are clearly moving on, I dont see the harm in these players having the ability to discuss possible landing spots. -
With all the players being tagged, it's likely the middle tier players get bumped up and make out on the market due to supply and demand. If that be the case, itll suck to lose Shaq, but that's the risk of not exercising that fifth year option. When would that have been?
-
If they sure up other positions in FA, it's not out of the realm of possibility, and McDermott moved up twice before Beane got here, and Beane has moved up four times in his combined drafts. Would they do it, who knows, if they genuinely love the player, like you said they have moved up. I don't think its within their best interests. Especially since, I dont think its cost effective to blow our wad on filling every hole via FA. Especially with the contracts we will have to extend.

Can the Bills land a good Edge in FA?
BillsFan17 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm actually kind of holding out hope they can find a way to pry Yannick from the Jags. I know it's super unlikely, and between the picks/contract it could get pricey, but man we need some juice off the edge. It honestly looks like a lot of the guys are going to get tagged, so I have been looking a lot into the Gross-Matos and Bauns of the draft. Judon the latest to seemingly be getting tagged. -
So when I point out drafts with later round specs out producing guys taken earlier that's wrong? How, how are facts wrong? Across multiple drafts? Moreover, our own GM has pointed out multiple times the depth of the position. So, what is it that I'm giving up exactly? https://www.syracuse.com/buffalo-bills/2020/02/nfl-combine-2020-what-bills-gm-and-head-coach-said-about-deep-wr-draft-class.html But no, Allbright's tweet absolutely trumps our own GM. Nailed it!

There is zero evidence or proof that acquiring one of those guys comes with a lower "bust rate." Again, acting like these guys are immune to busting is not logical, it's a biased opinion based on nothing than own personal sentiment. I'm not advocating that any will, I acknowledge the level of prospect they are considered. However, I also acknowledge there are more than just a handful of guys that can possibly be as productive if not more productive. That's based on recent trends of a handful of draft classes. Moreover, WR is among the positions with the highest bust rate. So to tell me moving up for one reduces that risk, is again, based on nothing but personal sentiment. You keep referencing how these top three are just on a different level, but refuse to truly acknowledge how deep this class is compared to just about any other class.
-
Sucks to suck, everyone wants to talk about weather and geography as factors. However, winning seems to be the biggest factor, and I cant blame Yannick from wanting to get away from the Jags. The culture there has been on a big time spiral, and honestly if it weren't for Minshew being an enigma, they would be in really bad shape.
