  1. I taught myself how to cook over the years. Started off watching FoodNetwork ( which is trash these days. Maybe it always was), then cookbooks, and now a lot of internet research. I really like SeriousEats.com for explaining the why of the recipe, dispelling common myths and grandma style misinformation, and recommending better practices/recipes. Its geared toward the home cook so its accessible. AmazingRibs.com has been equally great for bbq and grilling. Modernist Cuisine is a great resource for breaking down the science of cooking and explaining what happens at a molecular level. Modernist is aimed toward more advanced and hardcore home cooks, their recipes are mostly impractical, but the information is broadly applicable and there are a lot of cool techniques you can use. YouTube has been awesome for providing a visual on techniques which I haven't attempted before. I used YouTube to see how to cut certain vegetables properly and efficiently (its a major time saver), shuck oysters, breakdown live crab, prep fish, wrap dumplings, wrap beef wellington, etc. Seeing it done before you attempt it is great. With these sources I would say that I now understand what I'm doing and why I'm doing it in the kitchen. With a bunch of techniques in my toolbox, recipes are now just guides for ratios and proportion and I mix, match, and customize (for better or worse). Cooking is a lot more fun when it evolves past following steps checking a book for what comes next. I hope this helps to some degree. P.S. - I dazzled the old bags and hapless instructor at my Williams Sonoma date night cooking class. I half considered a mutiny. I'm the teacher now!!
  2. For as much as I cook, the best knife in my drawer is still a ceramic blade. I think Kyocera makes it. Its still quite sharp over 5 years later. I bought a set of forged, German manufactured Henckels as a non-denominational, winter solstice, holiday season gift. At least I'll be able to use those when I cook at her place.
  3. I was watching the sideline carefully and its true. EJ is a cancer!!! He couldn't find leadership in the dictionary let alone the locker room.
  4. Yes. Removing nearly all of the oxygen before storing and freezing slows the rate of oxidation.
  5. "Half to" be is an extension of "would of" and "could of" which are TBD mainstays.
  6. Chad did absolutely nothing for the Pats.
  7. And he still didn't put you on 90210. That's not right!! You should fire your agent.
  8. Did you manage to finally evict the junkies who were squatting in there?
  9. So who the f@#% is Michael? That guy is definitely lucky you were too tired to bring your A game to the situation.
  10. I liked Jane the Virgin but I slowly lost interest as the season progressed.
  11. @AdamShifter 6m We have obtained a rare photo of what appears to be Russ Brandon in attendance at the Wannsee Conference. Why would a marketer have input in Final Solution ops?? #StickToPropagandaRuss
  12. The issue is that the team sucks. The "perception" of a few minimally informed, disgruntled TBD posters is meaningless. Russ and mrags should stay...in the meeting!
  13. Retropie based emulator is up and running. Going to install KODI soon and try to set up some kind of media center. Is it worth partitioning my SD drive and running both retropie and raspian? Looks like Raspian has a lot of potential but for what, I have no idea.
  14. I'm guessing you're the guy who replies all in company wide emails. You're the guy who doesn't know how to mute his phone on a conference call. You're the guy filling everyone's inbox with chain letters and "viral" jokes from 1998 as if its new material.
  15. We don't know the extent of the ball boy's influence any more than we know the extent of RB's but we don't blame him lest we sound like mouth breathing morons.
  16. Stop ruining Fading's thread. He thought he found the smoking gun. Proof of the second gunmen in the book suppository, or a bag of Doritos blowing across the desert in the supposed moon landing video, explosive thermos at the World Trade Center. Fading was gonna blow the top off this thing and he would've gotten away with if not for you meddling kids. Forget it, Fadingpain, its China's town.
  17. @AdamSchefler 5m Breaking story. Sources within the organization leaked Russ Brandon's outlook calendar and confirmed that he has 90 minutes blocked off every Monday morning for "Not Football Meetings" #MeetingGate
  18. Russ Brandon also attends those Bilderberg meetings under a volcano on a desert island where everybody wears goat masks and has a giant orgy before they sacrifice a virgin to their satanic lizard god. I wouldn't worry too much about the Monday morning before Tuesday afternoon football meeting for jerks.
  19. JEEEEEEEEZUS CHRIST!!! Russ Brandon attends meetings?!?!?!?!!? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I don't understand. Were you not able to download RetroPie?
  21. Good catch, but in all fairness, you don't know what Schwartzman does behind closed doors and hes a squirrely looking f@#$@er so nothing would surprise me. Edited the OP.
  22. I have a food saver deluxe that has the hose attachment. Is that what your unit uses? I thought it was mainly for sealing jars. I guess I haven't looked into it much.
  23. I got tired of waiting for the NES Classic Edition re-release and stumbled on this article describing how to make a mutant Nintendo/Atari/Sega/Playstation with a Raspberry Pi (or rhubarb pie as the cool kids are calling it) and some free open source software. http://lifehacker.com/how-to-turn-your-raspberry-pi-into-a-retro-game-console-498561192 I know I've just scratched the surface on what you can do with this thing. Anyone have projects they've worked on? What else should I be doing with this Pi? P.S. I'll spare you the trouble: Yes, I thought about going all Jason Biggs on on my rig but none of the ports are big enough. Next.
