NBA suspends season due to coronavirus
Jauronimo replied to brianthomas's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Really? We have tested about 10,000 people. You can only get tested if you are experiencing symptoms AND had contact with someone confirmed to test positive or someone who has traveled outside the country. Which means if have symptoms and don't meet the other requirements I'm pretty sure you don't have COVID according to the official stats. If anything, cases are under reported. Jrb: The only way to combat this is to lay low. Also Jrb: I'm going to Disney Land!!!! Those CDC eggheads can't tell me what to do. -
NBA suspends season due to coronavirus
Jauronimo replied to brianthomas's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The rate ranges depending on how effective containment has been and the strain on local healthcare systems. With a 10% to 20% hospitalization rate for those infected it doesn't take much of an outbreak to push our hospitals to the edge. Then the mortality rate on routine illnesses like ruptured spleens will be nigh 100%. -
Its very hard to talk to someone who dismisses the only thing resembling real analysis on the topic as "made up" and suggests a hypothetical based on a number they just pulled out of their own ass. What if there are only double the number of cases? Do you feel better about our government only being off by a factor of 100%? China had 1,000 cases in the early days before they shut down a province until that number turned out to be 70,000.

We probably have 5x-20x the number of announced cases as confirmations lag actual contractions and we simply don't have the testing. One new case in the Houston area today. The guy went to the Rodeo over the weekend where average attendance per day is 50,000 to 70,000. Read the article Hapless posted and look at announced cases vs actual cases.

BUF-HOU Playoff Redux: 2nd Half Kickoff
Jauronimo replied to GoBills808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Its not nearly beaten enough if it can be re-mounted, in any sense of the word. Definitely not by TBD standards. 2. This is completely Roy and Gugny's fault. -
BUF-HOU Playoff Redux: 2nd Half Kickoff

Billl does point out a glaring weakness in the rule book. What if a player takes a knee but many years later, on their death bed, wishes to advance the ball? When is a play truly dead? If the return man takes a knee and then changes his mind and decides to run as you have brilliantly laid out, that would be too late since he has already "taken a knee and made no attempt to advance the ball." This scenario is distinctly different than a ball carrier who takes off running, slips and inadvertently has a knee touch the ground while clearly attempting to advance the ball. Comparison to the catch rule is a very poor analogy. The definition of a catch is and has been incredibly subjective. What is a football move? When is possession established? What is control? What qualifies as survives the ground? This subjectivity has plagued the game and driven fans crazy. Luckily, the rules governing dead balls on kickoffs are as clear as can be. Or at least they were until "common sense" was introduced and "logic" prevailed. -
BUF-HOU Playoff Redux: 2nd Half Kickoff

I would caveat: THIS specific play was not an automatic review because the head official changed the correct ruling on the field after a 5 minute conference with the backup officials, which is completely unprecedented. And if this play were to have been reviewed the league office would have absolutely have been forced to judge per written rules rather than opine on the intent of the runner. Nope, nothing to see here!!! -

Does the fact that the head official changed his ruling on the play after a 5 minute sideline meeting with backup officials instead of allowing video review figure this mess out make anyone feel better about how this went down? What transpired on this play is completely unprecedented. The natural question is: why didn't they let this go to video review? Its common officiating practice on scoring plays and turnovers to put the whistles away and let the sequence play out followed by video review. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Does anyone know how COVID-19 compares to the common cold or flu? Has this analysis been done yet? -
Completely agree that another year in the CHL won't do anything for his game but if he isn't a sure thing to be our 2C or 3C in camp then I don't think we will see him with the Sabres next year. Having him be a healthy scratch also won't help his game much either. The option to assign him to the AHL would be clutch. I think its 50/50 at this point.

ESPN should not be focusing on one big splash given how desperately under staffed they are. They need to bring in experts and lots of them. The average ESPN panel is 4.25 former players and journalists as it is!!!! These guys are spread too thin!!! I need 15 guys MINIMUM shouting over each other to get their hot takes and superficial analyses heard. I should NOT have to hear opinions from the same guy twice!! One man, no matter how tough to listen to, is not going to swing the needle. ESPN's only hope to right this ship is to bring in 35-40 Booger McFarlands and a handful of Dennis Millers.

Share an Unpopular Bills-Related Opinion

London Fletcher was a really good linebacker. Poz was a good linebacker. The common refrain of "only makes tackles 5 years downfield!" is for idiots. -
CNN is desperately peddling a narrative the American people are believing that Biden is a winner and he is surging. The reality is and has been that outside of the Bernie zealots none the Dems don't think Sanders can win. Klobuchar, Bloomberg, and Buttigieg talked about it for weeks. They endorsed "not Sanders" and tonight people are poring in votes for "please not Sanders".

I'm also shocked that the couple that engaged in a months long, highly public, twitter fight which covered Jordan's infidelity in detail just can't seem to settle things in house and let professionals sort it out.
