That would be the Falconer Barbie. I got this from a friend a while ago, I sent it to Beerball a while back. It's actually pretty funny. IF CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SCHOOLS WERE ACTUAL PEOPLE: (don't know how Randolph figures to be Chautauqua Co though) Brocton is the kid with his head down who might shoot up the school someday. Cassadaga is the kind of dirty kid that always has parties in his corn field to fit in. Chautauqua Lake is the class president that EVERYONE hates. Clymer is the kid in 4H who has to leave class everyday at noon to do chores. Dunkirk is the kid everyone THINKS is a gangsta... Falconer is the kid in wood shop, who's always getting in trouble at school Forestville is the kid who smokes pot in the parking lot before school everyday, and leaves during lunch to smoke a cigarette across the street. Fredonia is the slut who always goes to the bar with the guys who graduated four years ago. Frewsburg is the virgin church going girl who screwed three guys on prom night. Jamestown is the star point guard who got kicked off the team for selling drugs. Maple Grove is the cocky kid who comes out of the closet in college Panama is the closet whore that gave an STD to Cassadaga Pine Valley is the kid who skips school for the opening day of deer season. Randolph buys us all beer because he was the kid who grew a full beard at age 12 Ripley is the kid that no one knows his name or where the hell he came from. Sherman is Clymers cousin even though they hook up. Silver Creek is the big indian kid who sells cartons of cigarettes out of his locker. Southwestern is the Quarterback of the football team that no one really likes, but we still go to his parties at his lake house. Westfield is the kid who got a DWI but still drives to school Bethel Baptist is the kid who wears a shirt and tie to picture day and has the backpack on wheels that he runs with between classes Boces is the kid that can't take normal classes but isn't allowed in special ed. JCC is the person that's always going back to see teachers and hang out at highschool after they graduate and think theyre so fuggin cool for it

I'll combine a few of the thoughts into one: Sitting on the back deck drinking Shiner Bock, while cooking some slooooow cooked barbecue and listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn on the stereo. (seriously that's part of my Saturday BBQ routine.) Others: Minor league baseball golfing with three good friends The 19th hole with my golfing buddies fishing with my son and wife Bison Chip Dip WNY Maple Syrup A sunny fall day in Western New York Cooperstown, NY Small town High School football on a Friday night And of course... A perfectly executed sacrifice bunt

I received a Chautauqua County version of this a couple years ago. It just doesn't have the same effect at the Buffalo version.

Yes I know there is a baseball forum....

And since LSI has completely given up on the Red Sox in 2007 (WHEN THEY WON THE FUGGIN WORLD SERIES!!!!), it just hasn't been the same either. -
My motivation was much like Darrin's. I had to get out of Jimmytown, grow up ALOT, do something challenging, learn to do something besides play town-team baseball, work a crappy dead-end job and NOT end up sitting on a bar stool at the local bar in my hometown bitching about the same old thing every night. (wow that is one long-ass runon sentence and I was a journalist in the AF... ) I learned a trade in the Force o' the Air, that I really love and if it wasn't for enlisting, I probably never would have discovered my affinity for writing and shooting photos. Plus I met my wife courtesy of the military and that is by far the best thing I've ever done. One thing I've always been over-whealmed and almost "uncomfortable" with is depth of gratitude people express to me as a veteran. I've been to various public events like baseball games where they ask all vets to stand up and be recognized, which I don't normally do. One time I was at a game with a buddy of mine from back in WNY and he said "why don't you stand up?" And I told him, the spotlight and the applause kind of makes me uncomfortable. What I did in the military didn't ensure anyone's freedom, I didn't defend a piece of land or free any oppressed people. I guess I don't take what I did as that noble of an endeavor. I covered and wrote about what the real heroes were doing, I tried to make sure THEY got the credit THEY deserve. I don't know I guess I'm just wired different (shut up Beerball, don't get started on me...)

Good story PTR! The names you mentioned bring back a lot of memories. I did some part time stuff for one of the joke-of-a-radio-station they had in Jamestown back in the 90s and it always amazed me that small fraternity it USED to be in radio. Everyone knew everyone back then. Remember that dude Terry Lamar who used to be at the old Rock 102? He ended up down in Jimmytown later on. I was surprised at all the people he knew and the stories he told about some of the old Jocks just blew my mind. You find out they really are "just like everyone else" if by "everyone else" you mean complete freaks! I still dabble in college radio, but it's so different from what I remember 20 years ago.

that's great news Gord!!! Happy for you! Enjoy each and every day as it truly is a blessing.

Wow I remember the fourth period show as well! Used to put me to sleep during the long winter evenings from Dec through March. Last thing I remember about Stan Roberts was when he was PA announcing at the Rich.

Yes, I played in a softball tournament there one time. Absolutely horrible! Swore I would never go there again. First job I had after I got out was working for a Budweiser distributor and one of our sister branches was located in San Angelo, well where do you suppose they had our first company wide sales meeting? Yep, San-Fuggin-Angelo. Not at all. In fact, being in a military town like Colorado Springs, I think it helped me land my first job (mentioned above). Now I'm doing what a lot of blue suitors have done. I'm basically doing the same job I did when I was active duty, but now I'm doing it as a civil service employee. In fact, its funny how many guys I see around the base that are still here from when we were active duty, but now we're all civilians. Played in a softball tournament there as well (seems like that's all I did when I was stationed in Texas) and you're right second-verse-same-as-the-first. But seriously, neither of those places were/are as bad as Laughlin in Del Rio. Ugh... Del Rio is like Odessa's dirty little brother.

I did two hitches in the Air Force. I was in the PA career field. Got to see Texas (BMT), Indiana (Tech School), back to Texas (Randolph AFB), short stops in Gitmo, Panama, Saudi Arabia and finished up in Colorado (USAFA). Learned more in those 8 years than I did in 14 plus years of school. Dont' regret a single thing about enlisting.

Give yourself a punch for that post.

My first car was a non-descript late 70s hunk of gas-guzzling iron that withstood two accidents involving deer. Drove away from both accidents with a couple minor dents and broken side mirror. Today's cars crumble under the same circumstances. However, my son just turned 16 last week and has been saving his money for three or four years to buy a car. The car he chose to buy... a 1963 Ford Fairlane 500, that he and my father in law are working on togehter. He gets on my last nerve sometimes, but he's a throwback that's for sure.

I remember listening to his show as a kid, as I recall back when GR played music, he played quite a bit of disco, which as a youngster I didn't know any better and thought it was "cool" show. I even used his photo as my avatar here for a while last year. Don't know what happened to him, but would love to find out. I remember listening to GR as I was falling asleep each night and if I was still awake when John Otto came on (remember Desperate and Dateless Thursday Night Show), then it was going to be a long day the next day at school.

What we really gotta figure out here, is who the hell is going to get sued over this!

Give the guy a break, he's upgrading from the ol' mule he's been using for the last 30 years! Baby steps ball o' beer... -
Awesome!! Thanks for the post. The climb up that first hill used to always freak me out as a kid, I was afraid the train would jump the tracks and we would end up in Lake Erie. Man that brought back great memories. I remember my grandmother taking me and my cousins every summer and we would come home with the Loganberry badges of honor (read: loganberry stains) all over our shirts. Begging for "one last ride" before the long trek back to southern Chaut Co. Spending ridiculous amounts of money on the midway games. Bringing home four or five plastic MLB batting helmets each time from the "guess your speed" game. Grandma's health is failling her now, it's funny how you chose the timing of this article CVM. It reminds of the good days with Gram. Thank you...

Didn't Stan Roberts do that back when he was PA man for then Rich Stadium? I may be having revisionist history, but I thought I remembered hearing the same thing during the Bills runs? I further thought he followed it with something like "what are you 14 people doing?"

Keep a long time good 'guy' poster in your thoughts.

Thoughts a prayers to you Annemarie. We'll all the be thinking of you. -
They're passionate about Elway and whatever the free-agent signing of the moment is. They loved Lynch when they signed him a few years ago, but when Lynch wanted out so he could find out if his services could be better used elsewhere, they turned on him like Benedict Arnold... calling him selfish, not a team player, etc... (of course we've seen the same act from our own fans towards some Bills players) Nevermind... But the fans were a joke last year when the Bills beat them. I walked out of that stadium on cloud freaking nine that day! And they STILL had the audacity to say "Bills suck." AFTER WE BEAT THEM!?!?
