  1. I hear ya. Those cities you mentioned are world class cities. Buffalo can not compete against them, neither can 99% of the other cities/regions in this country. But when you say there is not much to do here I do not get that. We have skiing; is it Killington or the Rockies? No, but Ellicottville is still pretty neat. We have casinos, is it as good as the main strip @ Las Vegas? No, but it will get the job done. We have musicals at Sheas. Is it broadway, no, not many places are. We have Art Galleries, museaums, several bar districts, beautifull golf courses(I would rate the upper @ Peak n Peak against any public course in the south), we have a beautifull fresh body of water, that is just awesome in the summertime for water recreation, Lake Erie is one of the top notch fishing places for Bass fishing in the entire country, we have an abundance of deer/wild turkey here if hunting is your thing to occupy you in the fall/spring, we have one of the great wonders of the world in Niagara Falls just a long 3 wood away from the cities skyline, we have a collection of the best strip clubs in all of North America just a short drive over the peace bridge, we have some of the best bar food in the country(I will agree if you want some international cuisine from india or something buffalo is not the place to be - who wants that crap anyways), & most importantly we have something that no other city could compete with..... THE BUFFALO BILLS!!!!!!

I just do not understand when people say there is not alot to do here. There is more to the WNY region then just the eastside that you out of town folks seem to concentrate on when putting down the city.

Are you kidding me? Let's look at those things you mentioned in the context of what a young, rich, athlete generally seeks. Skiing? Pass. Musicals? Pass. Niagra Falls? What, are you going to go there every weekend? Pass. Art Galleries and museums? Pass. Fishing and hunting? Pass. Golf? Not likely. The casinos, bars and strip clubs are certainly draws, but as you admit yourself, it's not Vegas or Atlanta or Miami.

I happen to love the all-night bar scene in Buffalo. There are plenty of attractive single girls at the bars who are more than willing to drop their panties for guys who have all of their teeth, if not much else going for them. But that's simply amateur hour for a professional football player. For the hottest girl at a bar on any given Friday night in Buffalo, there are 100 hotter ones in multiple bars in NYC and Miami. These athletes are going to be idolized by mostly white young kids in college at UB or Fredonia. Football players like that, but they've had that their entire adult lives - they want more. They want to meet and hang out with CELEBRITIES.

  2. 49er fan your a stat. machine but Cassel for Edwards straight up. What would you do? Be honest.

Cassel hardly played in college - he was a backup. Edwards was hurt a ton. They are both very early in their careers, and frankly, I don't have enough to go on to pick one. I will say that Edwards has impressed me at times with limited offensive weapons while Cassel has had a few good games after he got the wheel of a Cadillac handed to him. Randy Moss makes one-handed catches while being covered tightly by a CB on the sideline and Wes Welker is open on every single play. If Edwards was in Cassel's position I bet he would be more consistent. Put Cassel on Buffalo and the Bills might be worse than their current record.

  3. "Brady goes down and they pull a Q.B. out of their pocket the likes of which Buff has not seen since Kelly."

Sorry, but I'm not about to anoint Matt Cassel as the next Jim Kelly or [insert HOF QB here]. He's had back-to-back big games against the 26th and 28th ranked passing defenses in the league. 400+ yard, high-scoring shootouts where the clock was stopping on almost every play. And he had a nice game against Denver too, they're ranked 25th. Against the Bills he was efficient and ran for a TD, fumbled once and was only sacked once.

But look at the season before that:

Against Indy (not exactly the best defense in the league), NE scored a measly 15 points and Cassel didn't throw a TD and got picked off. Against St. Louis, a horrible team, Cassel got picked off twice and sacked 3 times. Against San Diego, NE scored 10 points, Cassel didn't throw a TD, and he got picked off once and sacked 4 times. San Francisco - 1 TD, 2 INTs, sacked 5 times. The first Miami game - NE was drubbed 38-13, Cassel fumbled, was picked off, was sacked 4 times and his YPA was an astonishingly low 4.2. Against the Jets in Week 2, Cassel played a relatively clean game going 16/23 for 165 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs, but 4 sacks. And in Week 1 coming in for Brady he did well, throwing a TD on 13/18 passing for 152 yards. They beat the Chiefs.

Pittsburgh is coming to NE this week. Look at those teams I went through again. Cassel has not faced any defense even close to theirs. Pittsburgh is allowing only 3.8 yards per PLAY. They are giving up only about two touchdowns per game (14.5) - or how about 5 FGs. They allow less than 240 total yards per game. They have linebackers with double-digit sacks already. They have a saftey with 5 interceptions.

If you want to see Cassel come back to earth this week - watch the game Sunday at 4:15.

  4. "Amount Charles Reamon, Jr., a friend Vick put in charge of his finances while in prison, went through: over $3 million."

"Percent of that money accounted for: 0."

"Amount New York bankruptcy attorney Peter Ginsberg alleges Vick's business manager Mary Wong "wrongfully removed" from Vick's accounts: $900,000."

"Percent of that money accounted for: 0."

Vick was so rich at one point that he had no concept of the value of money or who was spending it. And when he went to jail, he got robbed. Sucks for him. But he'll be back.

  5. "For once, we need to think about what it says to kids if we let athletes that make serious misjudgements step back into the spotlight."

For once? Please, that ship sails almost every year - this season it was Pacman Jones.

I think Vick will go to Philly in '09 if Goodell suspends him for less than 16 games.

  6. Vick Needs NFL Team That Will Take Chance on Him

    Nov 25, 3:53 AM (ET)

By HOWARD FENDRICH, AP Sports Writer

As Michael Vick appears in a Virginia court to answer state dogfighting charges Tuesday, he has reason to hope his aim of one day returning to the NFL could be realized.

Dozens of league-wide interviews conducted by The Associated Press in the last week found a commissioner willing to consider Vick's case and players who would welcome him back.

The trick may be finding a team ready to take a risk on the former quarterback.

  7. I start two QBs - and I have Phillip Rivers vs. IND, Jeff Garcia @ DET and Tyler Thigpen vs. BUF.

I have Rivers and Garcia in because they are my normal starters and they have nice matchups.

But....Buffalo's secondary is very banged up - I have heard Greer and Whitner are out and maybe others. Question - is Thigpen a better play over Garcia, or even Rivers, this week???

    Thanks.

  8. I would say overall the speed of DEs today is faster, meaning guys like Montana, Aikman, Young et.al. had precious extra fractions of seconds to throw. Over an entire game it might only add up to 1 full second, but that could be enough for few big plays or first downs.

Then if you're talking about Montana and Young, you have to bring up Rice. Rice in the 80s up to the mid-90s was virtually uncoverable. Not just his route running, but his timing of patterns with his QBs' throws plus his sure hands made his QBs' jobs much easier.

  9. That's a sweet post.

So in hindsight the Bills should have drafted Matt Schaub or given the house away to Pittsburgh for Roethlisberger to sit for one year behind Bledsoe.

    Other QBs from '04:

    2nd round - none

    3rd round - Matt Schaub

    4th round - Luke McCown

    5th round - Craig Krenzel

    6th round - Andy Hall

7th round - John Navarre, Cody Pickett, Casey Bramlet, Matt Mauck, B.J. Symons, Bradlee Van Pelt

Interestingly, had the Bills not traded up with Dallas for Losman, their 2nd round/#43 pick could have been used on S Bob Sanders, whom the Colts took at #44.

  10. The cost/benefit of Vick's return to the NFL will be too great to ignore for some team - it's going to happen. Yeah, you'll get your P.E.T.A. protesters and related cries of outrage at first - but the bottom line is that those people aren't the vocal majority at football games. Football fans get excited about talented players on their favorite team. A team can sign him for practically the league minimum with incentives and get a dynamic running quarterback that defenses fear greatly. Vick as a #2 QB or a "slash" 3rd-down player is more valuable than every single backup QB out there, and several current starters.

I guarantee Vick will be back in the NFL - but I don't think at Buffalo.

  11. Ok, please. What is eight bucks to a guy like Romo?

According to my research, he signed a six-year, $67.4 million contract extension through 2013. The deal included an $11.5 million signing bonus and contains $30 million in total guarantees.

Eight bucks? That is like me throwing a penny onto the street.

  12. "However Mike Vick wouldn't make this team any better. Vick vs Belichick? Are you kidding me?"

Vick's dual-threat ability caused quite a bit of defensive havoc. Vick has scored 92 rushing and passing touchdowns in 74 games played - 67 starting. Obviously other QBs have been better, but Vick's scoring numbers are certainly respectable when considering Vick's non-traditional style and that his Falcon teams featured players like Alge Crumpler and Warrick Dunn as their most potent offensive weapons other than Vick.

Vick's 7.3 career yards-per-carry average is #1 in NFL history. In the last season he played he rushed for over 1000 yards - unheard of for an NFL quarterback - and averaged 8.4 ypc.

Vick won games. Atlanta was 38-28-1 from '01-'06 and 2-2 in the postseason with Vick starting. During the same time period the Falcons were 9-20 without Vick.

Would Vick thrive in Buffalo? He is injury-prone, but he would add an element on offense that is extremely hard to defend and that has worked in the past.
