I see us carrying 4DTs (Williams, Dareus, Troup, Heard), 4 DEs (Anderson, Williams, Merriman, and a draft pick), and a swingman, that being Carrington. An yes, Edwards is light years ahead of them, especially in salary.
I noticed 6 DTs when I bet we carry no more than 4 on the active roster. Williams, Dareus, and Troup will probably be our 1st 3, and Heard or Price our #4. I like Johnson, but not as a backup at his salary.
Well, thankfully Wannstadt doesn't ask his DEs to cover. Even so, Ingram is a pass rusher, not a coverage guy. Just like a healthy Merriman, he's not a fit as a 4-3 LB.
At what cost? I'd rather see some cap flexibility, now that Mario Williams has a BIG contract. I think our receiving option is either already on the roster or about to be drafted.
Let's not.
I agree that he is young, fast, and talented. However, we are already paying Stevie to be our #1, so you don't spend a #1 pick on a WR who is, at most, going to be our #2.
Now, I can hear you thinking that Stevie is not a #1. There may be some validity to that, but I think he is our #1 because of Fitzpatrick's arm.
