Ryan's Defense: DL-men in Coverage
HerdMenatlity1 replied to Ronin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know it's the time of year to try and feel better, but did you notice when we lost key players I Rex's defense, we really felt it too?! That was one of a few excuses Rex used. Also, Rex has had the likes of Ray Lewis mo Wilkerson to name a few. He has always had dominant player to implement his d. He also had a high number of early draft picks on d w the jets and that d still struggled at the end of his tenure. To say Rex succeeded without dominant players or doesn't need dominant players is wrong imo. Marenelli(sp) in Dallas did more with less talent. Let's trade Marcell and Hughes for a couple of average Joes and see what happens. This Rex koolaid is pretty sweet today. I agree it's not so much that he asks them to drop into coverage, but it sounds like he was the wrong coach for this team at the time he was hired. Now it's too late to turn back and must find the right olbs, and an ilb. -

Prisco ranks Taylor 26 out of 32 starting QBs
HerdMenatlity1 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As with Winston and Marriota, it's too early to clearly to know where to put TT. it was his 1st year as a starter. Glad we have him though. I think he takes a big step forward, but we are a running team and he won't be counted on to do as much as the other qb's. He may be REALLY underappreciated on rankings because of this next year. -

Your thoughts on Hughes as a 3-4 olb vs 4-3 de
HerdMenatlity1 replied to HerdMenatlity1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, couldn't sleep last night. Can't wait for the epic reply though. I do like his comments. Seems like he wants to do this. Hope it's not half serious, cuz, you know Rex wants "all-in" this year. I really hope everyone is "all-in". This way Rex and Rob can show what they are made of. We'll see. -
Your thoughts on Hughes as a 3-4 olb vs 4-3 de
HerdMenatlity1 replied to HerdMenatlity1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I trusted that "good defensive coach" last year and...dammit, I said I wasn't trying to bash Rex here and what do I do? Caught myself. Kinda what I'm thinking. Like Jim Kelly said last year about Mario: "he's getting paid a boat load of $ to hit the QB". -
I'm curious what the thoughts are on moving Hughes to a 3-4 olb from 4-3 de. I'm really concerned and the main reason is wasn't he drafted as a 3-4 olb and flame out in Indy? We got him for a steal because he wasn't working out as an olb. We bring him in as a 4-3 de and bamm! He blossoms into a disrupting sack machine. 10 sacks 2 yrs straight. Now he's back to a position where he struggled enough to warrant a trade for a song. I routinely bash Rex,that's not what I'm trying to do here, but why would Rex move him back to a position where he failed when he showed so much before Rex? How does this even make sense? I hope this move works out, but I have serious doubts and if he resorts back to his Indy performance along with Lawson out for a while we are screwed. IMO Rex is not putting Hughes in a place where he can succeed. Thoughts?

Seantral AWOL since end of season (not really)
HerdMenatlity1 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not a bs story. Keep in mind there is a big difference between AWOL and MIA. AWOL means absent from the armed forces without permission (Webster), MIA means a soldier who was not found after a battle and who may or may not be dead(again Webster's dictionary). Tyler clearly refers to MIA, the OP(reed83hof) started the use of AWOL. Big difference guys. Henderson didn't need permission to be in Minnesota for the recovery. If he was required to report, then maybe the term AWOL would be appropriate. He was "missing in action" though. Quote from the article: "clearly if any of his coaches called he would've returned the phone call. But to this day, nobody has called him." Where some of you guys come up with AWOL from Tyler's article is beyond me. Tyler says MIA in the title and reed 83 says AWOL. BIG difference and starts the post using the wrong term. Tyler is correct here, Henderson was not AWOL and Tyler never claimed he was. -
ESPN: Ryans planning to take control.

It would have been a hell of a lot better than the crap we got last season from Rex. -
Marcel makes pretty good $ and he griped too. If you want to say Mario infuenced him, not buying it. He's a grown man. If the coach/supervisor doesn't know how to use the strength/abilities of his staff/players, it's going to be difficult for everyone to buy in. Doesn't matter what anyone says or thinks and it works the same way at any job.

Thoughts on Why Bills Should Extend Gilmore NOW.

If he's our guy you extend now because the price tag is only going to go up. -
Are the Bills really in "Win Now" mode?
HerdMenatlity1 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Last season was must win season. This year, not so much. This seems like yr. 1 of a defensive rebuild. Three potential new starters on d(rookies), doesn't sound like win now to me. -
The Nattering Nabobs of Negativity
HerdMenatlity1 replied to racecitybills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trying not to be too negative, and my name ain't Nancy, but Man this sucks. We were headed in the right direction, then made a right turn somewhere(Albuquerque?) . Oh yea, it was hiring Rex, who apparently couldn't take the talented defense we had any further. Now we change course to a different defense that requires different personnel. So Mario's replacement could miss anywhere from 4-6 games(depending on who you ask), hmmmm. We could have done better with the 19th pick. I wouldn't spend a ton on a new car if I knew it had a recall to fix a problem and a 1st round pick is a ton. The 19th pick was too valuable to risk on a player that was going to have to have surgery, and we knew it. The 2nd round, maybe, maybe. Don't forget we drafted him with the expectation of him starting right away. So, what's the backup plan? Manny!?!? I like Manny, but he's no Mario. That position is in trouble, even if/when Shaq comes back. He's a rookie who will be coming back from surgery. Knowing the risks, Whaley should have had a better plan B or drafted someone else. I don't think Whaley's seat is hot yet. I'm waiting to see some improvement in the defense, as this is Rex's baby. If the defense does not improve, I think Rex is on the hot seat. But hey, we're fully pregnant, whatever that means. Oh yea, it means Rob looks fully pregnant and about due. I hope he delivers a hellacious defense and not a giant turd. -
I think in the Cleveland Indians scenario, it's the red faced Indian as the mascot/character on their uniforms that may be found as offensive more than anything. In this case, I don't see how the Indians can find a mascot that will satisfy everyone. Would it be ok if he was a little more brown skinned than red? In any event, I don't think any of these mascots were ever intended to offend. Side note: I have season tickets to FSU football. They are the FSU Seminoles and I join in on the tomahawk chop as a way to cheer our guys on. Never have I felt that I was doing it to offend anyone and still don't. The Seminole name is never used in that manner from what I can tell. It shows that as a unified team, they are strong just like the Seminole Tribe and kick ass! Any other assertion, I just don't see it and I've been going to games here since '93. What ever happened to being able to dress as a Mexican or "Indian" for Halloween?!? Now it's offensive but people dress as cowboys and it's ok. True story, my daughter dressed as Pocahontas for Halloween because she thought she was beautiful and some kids mother gave me a snide comment in front of her. I told her that it was because she saw her as beautiful and you just hurt her feelings. She saw her error and apologized. People are too PC today and fighting too many battles, imo.

Jonathan Martin... Still Whining About Richie
HerdMenatlity1 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was interviewed after doing a presentation on social isolation of kids. Of course the question regarding Richie is going to come up, if the reporter is any good. Richie is fine and Martin did nothing wrong in answering the question. Richie was a real ass with Martin and Martin didn't handle it the way some would. Richie should have seen this and backed off. But, nope he kept on with Martin til Martin said "enough". I wasn't gonna reply til I saw your " fragile jackass " comment. Really!?!? No baiting involved, he answered the question as asked of him. It's pretty easy to be a keyboard tough guy, isn't it? -
John Clayton: Bills "Regressed" in the Offseason
HerdMenatlity1 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm hoping it happens sooner than I think it will. I love the picks and not complaining, just think it'll take some time if we're going to start two rookies(who I think will be good players). -

HerdMenatlity1 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I find it hard to say a rookie is an upgrade over Bradhah. Ragland is new to the system on top of being a rookie. As for Mario, it's also too early to say Shaq is an upgrade. He too is a rookie who has to pick up a new scheme. Plus we have a rookie we are kinda counting on at nt to produce quite a bit. On the flip side, we were pretty bad last year on d and things probably can't get much worse. Too early to call for the whole team. I think we are top 10 on offense next season, but still have issues on d. Sure the rooks seem to fit, but they are rookies and new to the defense.jmo -
You're correct, there is a big difference between a garden-variety a-holish knucklehead-mook athlete and a double murderer, but who is this double murderer you are referring to? There was a trial... Voted no.
