Expectations for Josh Allen this year
HerdMenatlity1 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My expectation is that he doesn't lead the team in rushing. Second place was Shady and he was 117 yards behind. Can't have that. We will be better this year, IF Josh stays healthy. I would prefer he throws some of these balls away instead of taking off and running. Trust the defense to do their job and live to play another series. 9-7. -
I like your out of the box thinking.

Dude gets hurt more in the off-season than when he's playing.

Considering what we've had at tight end and what is left on the market, I'll gladly take him on our roster. He fits what we want to do this coming season. Sure, he's not going to catch a ton, but we want to run and take our shots downfield as they present themselves. Allen is still only in his 2nd season and might not be totally ready to start slinging the rock at will. IF Lee is mauling for us on the running plays, then the play action will work really well, even knowing he's not a target. With him in the lineup and us controlling the ball, the defense will get caught guessing run a lot when play action is called. We have Kroft and Knox as our receiving TE's already. Two TE sets might be called a lot this year. Kroft or Knox taking a safety or LB with him on a route leaves Smith to do his dirty work and creating open running areas and he will hold up well in play action. I also trust Beane got a team friendly deal done. https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/sports/Smiths-Dirty-Work-Will-be-Missed-by-Raiders-396159961.html 'Lee Smith once was judged by Pro Football Focus, the analytics website, as the NFL’s best pass-blocking tight end, and he’s certainly contributed to the fact the Raiders have allowed quarterback Derek Carr to be sacked just twice this season. He’s also been a key player in the team’s No. 5 ranked rushing attack, too, that has generated 126.8 yards per game.'

The most encouraging rookie camp observation that I saw

Hopefully McCoy has a good year, but I think Frank Gore will be a 1st down getting machine. 2nd and 3 or 3rd and 2, Gore get's the ball behind that line and it's a 1st down all the time. -
I want to believe Ed when he says he tried to help simplify things, but no one listened. The defensive personnel we had when Rex took over played lights out under a simpler scheme under Schwartz. Rex came in and tried to change everything about the defense. That is on Pegula for not noticing this would happen, but Rex should have adjusted. My comments upon the hiring was the Jets were not disciplined under Rex and he only ran 1 style of defense. When he tried to adjust, somewhat, he showed he was a 1 trick pony who couldn't adjust. If Rex took over a crap defense, that would be 1 thing but he took over a good/great d and wrecked it. Ed came in thinking he could help and feels he wasn't taken seriously. I can see this happening when you have a strong personality like Rex and/or Rob. Heck, Rob blamed everyone but himself for the Saints and Cowboys defensive performances (or lack of). Do you think Rob was going to yield to a rookie assistant coach on advise that was contrary to his style? I don't see how Reed couldn't contribute to a staff in some way. If our safety group wasn't as solid and a veteran group, I wouldn't mind him as a special assistant. He would definitely help a young group of safeties learn how to be NFL players.

Great article on Devin Singletary

I loved our first 2 picks in the draft and this pick is really starting to grow on me. Hopefully with all those carries in college, he will not see as many this year. Just do well enough to provide a breather to our 2 older backs and then take over in 2020. He'll have a year of learning behind 2 potential HOF'ers and acclimate to the NFL with out to much wear and tear as a rookie. Process guys, process. -
Must be Jim called in a favor to Frank (Chad Kelly)

You're good as long as you don't break in someone's house. Homeowner has no clue the intent of some guy breaking in a home. Especially if there's kids and the wifey at home. Just saying, he was very lucky. -
That's not a bad #4 to have, IMO. Shows how much better our wr corp is now. I think Zay will pay attention and learn from Beasley and Brown during the ota's and training camp. It will do him a ton of good. He's also going to get a ton of reps from 1 qb this year. Last year began with Nate and, well you know the rest. He will make the team and be better.

Roll call for those betting over 6.5 wins

As a Yankees fan, I agree. -
I like the off season we've had, but it's only on paper. We need the o-line to gel, and that's a lot of new moving parts. It's not a given, especially early in the season. I've learned to have a wait and see attitude towards this franchise.

I wanna blame Rex Ryan and his circus. When he was hired, I worried about his undisciplined style of coaching and trying to put a square peg in a round hole. He set us back a few years. That was definitely a team that could have done damage if we kept Schwartz and brought in an offensive coordinator worth a !@!*.

Just looked at a WAY TOO early mock draft in CBS sports. What I found curious is having the Bills oick 4th. 4th?!?. I'm not here to tell you we are SB bound, or even a playoff team, but 4th is saying we'll be worsw than last year. I don't see us picking in the top 10, much less 4th. Just thought I would share this with you. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2020-mock-draft-raiders-and-jaguars-could-duke-it-out-for-tua-tagovailoa-if-things-go-south-in-19/?ftag=SPM-16-10abi8e

Or punch his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach or break his little boy's arm or punch that kid in the chest when he cries? He's no Tyreek Hill. Sorry, had to get that off of my chest. Chad is lucky to be alive. In my kneck of the woods, he would have been shot.
