  1. I've already said I don't think Chase is an upgrade and made my case. I was curious why you keep mentioning the last 16 games and not just this season when we've only played 12 this season. Then I looked. If we go back 16 games, that would include the last 4 games of last season when Hausch was injured due to a cheap shot by a Jets lineman. Here's how last year went: 1st 12 games(pre-injury) he was 17/19(89%) last 4 games(injured) he was 5/9(55%) This year inside of 50 yds Hausch is 14/16(87.5%). This year inside of 50 yds Chase is 12/16 (75%) The only place you might argue Chase is better is 50+ yds. He's 100%, but he's only tried 1 from that distance. Hausch is at 20% , but has 5 attempts. They each have 1 made from 50+ For the reasons given, the answer isn't yes. Chase is not better. I, like you, hope he doesn't cost us another game though. But, Chase lost one for the Niners this year too. I know it's a moot point now but wanted to reply to your question.
  2. I guess it's a moot point now, but there has to be a reason he's on his 5th team this year. Either every team can't wait to sign him or he's just not that good. He missed 15 field goals in 3 seasons in college. I've been saying all along, if we find a better kicker, sign him up. Chase isn't better.
  3. Thanks for the info. That actually helps me make my point even more valid. Which was Beane didn't give Hausch an extension to "boost his confidence". That was a ridiculous notion at $2 million and even more of a ridiculous notion at the #'s you provided.
  4. I have no problem with us not agreeing on the confidence boost part, but I still believe Beane isn't the type to risk his job over a player's feeling of insecurity. He wanted to lock up a good kicker, expecting a return to pre-injury form. If he waits and Haush is the top kicker in the league right now, Haush asks for more than $2 million or tests FA after this season. We'll see how the rest of the season plays out, but he seems to be coming around over the last few games. Hopefully you didn't take my "dumb" as I was speaking about you. The "dumb" comment was directed at the staff. If that was the reason they did give him the contract extension, that was a dumb move by Beane.
  5. Sure, I trust this staff isn't dumb enough to give someone money just to boost his confidence. This is a cut throat league. You get paid for production. His 1st year here, he was money(% 88). Last year, the same, til the injury off of a cheap shot. He still kicked at a %78 clip last year with the injury. He was going to be an URFA after this year. Locking up a good kicker at $2 million a year is a good deal. Since the debacle vs. the Browns, he's rebounded to 7/8 in FG attempts. We'll see how the resat of the season plays out. Back to your question: I think it's ridiculous to think Beane is going to pay someone $2 million a year to make him feel better about himself. That's how you get fired. The goal was to keep a good kicker in the fold at a decent contract, not to boost his confidence. Hindsight aside.
  6. Maybe there's a reason 2 teams dropped him. He is 5/9 from 40-49 and missed a game winning kick himself. From the "Star needs to go" to the "Shaq sucks" to the "Oliver is a bust" to the "Duke must start" etc., etc. on this board, this staff has proven to be right. If they find a better kicker, fine. Chase is not better, he's just a different name. Could be wrong, but I don't see this happening.
  7. "Uncle Jim, I'm broke. Can I borrow some money? I'll pay you back when I make it to the big league."
  8. You might find your answer at the following:
  9. Considering what we gave up for him, as far as wide receivers, he is probably a worse draft pick than Zay Jones or James Hardy.
  10. I had high hopes for Ed and still do. It may have taken a while for him to get used to a new position in the NFL. He played NT in a 3-4 in college and excelled. He was taking on 2 blockers on most every snap. As he gains experience in his new position, I think he'll develop into a stud. Even so, he has done pretty good for a rookie.
  11. Shaq was brought in by Rex and crew as a bad fit for their scheme. He was a good prospect coming out of college as a 4-3 DE who was not a huge pass rusher. Good defender who holds his own in the run game setting the edge. Whaley had some here believing he was going to rack up sacks in Rex's defense. Not his game. Even a novice like me knew that and didn't understand the pic for the scheme we had at the time. Maybe Rex convinced Whaley too. That same year we drafted Ragland and Adolphus Washington. I hate you, Rex. Shaq has progressed with better coaching and a scheme he should have been drafted into from the beginning. I'm not buying the "he needed the motivation of a contract year" talk. He needed better coaching and to be played where he fits. Rex almost wrecked the career of a good young player. Having said this, it was smart not to give him the 5th year. We are working the cap well and I trust Beane. Hopefully Shaq appreciates what this staff has done to help his career along and gives us a serious shot at signing him. Not necessarily a hometown discount, just the opportunity to see if we want to match any offers.
  12. I know I said it before, but Irv was the best!
  13. I'm a fan because I love football and that's my hometown team. Been a fan for 45 years. Never felt the need to be a bandwagon fan. Still a Sabre's fan too. I don't think anyone can argue they were not run well for most of their fandom. Honor? Believe it or not, this is a business and that was a heck of a business decision. It was reported by the Democrat and Chronicle that he and Whaley had a "frosty" relationship. It was pretty evident Whaley didn't like him, so he left with $4 million. Give me that money to walk away from a cocky GM like Whaley, who didn't like me and I'm gone. Don't have to ask me twice.
  14. "First and foremost, we can't "beat ourselves". Turnovers, penalties, clock management and Special Teams cannot be a problem. We have to play a "clean" game. After that, we have to take the mindset of "we're a tougher team". We need to be the more physical team on both sides of the ball. Let Zeke know "it ain't happening today". Pound that depleted D-line and LB corp. of theirs. Essentially see this game as a fight and kick their ass." I wrote the above for the Dallas game and it applies to this game too. We took a few too many penalties to begin the game but overcame. We did have a bad game from Hauschka and overcame. This team doesn't quit. We need to be more physical on both sides of the trenches. Essentially see this game as a fight and kick their ass." Defensively, keep them in front of us and make them have to drive for anything they get. Play on their side of the LOS. I believe their center is now on IR. Star, Phillips, Oliver and Shaq will be key. Offensively, we need no turnovers, sustained drives, Josh needs to spread the wealth, Knox and Kroft need to play big, and we need TD's vs. FG's. Let's go Bills!!!!
  15. Theisman? Alex Smith? Jim Kelly?
  16. Brady's wrs are horrible.
  17. Pretty sure a guy smart enough to have an out clause from a perennially crappy run organization has invested his $4 million(not $1 million) well. He won't need it, but he's got enough to lend you , if you need it.
