Bills hire Mike Pettine of the Jets as DC???

Getting back on topic, I like Pettine, and I believe we have a very good shot at him. I think he realizes that he won't get the recognition he deserves playing in Rex's shadow. -

Clearly I don't. Williams played his entire career as a 5-technique DE in a 4-3, and was only switched to OLB for 5 games before he got hurt. It primarily worked because Phillip's 3-4 scheme doesn't require the DE to handle two gaps, which let Mario play outside in effect acting as a 5-technique. We paid $125M+ to these two guys to come in and play DE with one hand on the ground, something they've done their entire careers (except for Williams 5 games and Andersons 3), and we have the inside of our line locked up for the next 3 years to play 3-technique penetrating DT. I'm not going to even argue with you how ridiculous it is to think we can move both to OLB, let alone play the same OLB rush position in a 3-4. I think every time something major happens with this team this board loses it's mind. -

I remember those playoff games, I didn't know he was switched to ROLB. Maybe that is his true calling, because I actually question him as a full-time DE. You're the guy that wants to switch both our DEs to OLB, and I'm the guy that's off? -

What have you seen from Anderson that leads you to believe he can play OLB? No, a 3-4 OLB is not the same as a DE in a 4-3. There are some similarities but this isn't fantasy football, you can't simply interchange linemen and linebackers on a whim. We don't have a true 0-technique NT (unless you count Troup). And no, Dareus is not a true NT, I don't care if he got 5 sacks his rookie year. -

He pats the ball like crazy. He needs a lot of work. -
Who really thinks Nix is in charge with this hire?
QCity replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it has more to do with Nix's comments and philosophy over the years and not so much the Chan hiring. We've heard Nix say things like "you'd like to get a guy with NFL head coaching experience" and "the percentages of being successful is hiring a guy that's done it." Of course he will then add the standard GM-speak like "we will hire who we think is the best guy regardless," but if you've listened to Nix intently over the years it's pretty easy to see that this hiring has Brandon's and Whaley's fingerprints all over it. A Nix hiring would be Lovie Smith or Whis, two guys with NFL track records at HC that went to a Superbowl. -
Bills hire Doug Marrone to be Head Coach

At least we don't have to put up with two dozen threads crying about retreads. -

This guy better knock it out of the park with his OC and DC selections. -

Wow, did not see this coming. It's going to take a lot of heavy drinking to try to get myself to like this choice. -
He didn't bring anyone in. That was the job of the GM, Rod Graves, just as it was when Green was HC. Why do you not understand this? Yes - Leinart, Anderson, Hall, Skelton, Lindley all sucked under Wis. Guess what? They would suck under Vince Lombardi. This is the entire point - the man had absolutely nothing to work with. As Ozymandius said, when he did have Warner at QB, he flourished, which is something that Green could never get Warner to do. As a matter of fact, he took the entire team Green had (that Rod Graves built) and led them to an 8-8 record. The next year, Superbowl. I think this discussion with you has run its course. I can't even begin to explain how simplistic it is to look at 2 coaching records (6-10 and 5-11), point at one and say, "this coach is better."
-
I think you're right, I do recall something about the Bidwell's now. I just remember Warner was only average in the Green regime, and the fans started clamoring for a change.

Ahh, the old cracked ribs excuse for Fitz. That one is up there with Lee Evans performing well as a decoy. What was cracked with Fitz this year? Nice, with all that talent Green must have really improved the team his 3rd year. Whoops, he went 5-11 again and got canned - way to build that team. You didn't even cherrypick his stats correctly. Bring in Warner? Green was the HC when they drafted Leinart. Well, they had to draft Leinart because Warner was completely ineffective with Green at the helm. Warner did flourish when KW got there though, hmmmm.... I would assume his players came from the same place that Green's players came from, Rod Graves. The only difference is that KW was able to take the personnel that Green had all the way to the Superbowl, while Green was winning 5 games a season (and this is a coach that had a .610 winning % in the previous 10 years as you pointed out). You're completely delusional, but what should I expect from a guy with a Cowher avatar?
-
Hold on, are you saying Gailey was lucky to have Fitz on the roster? Huh? Oh wait, I think you're the guy that said Dennis Green was reason for the Cardinals turnaround. That was great stuff!

Chip Kelly HC! (possibly for the Browns)

They probably had a handshake deal with Reid in place and - this is important - both agreed on the numbers. Once the rough numbers are agreed on, you can go ahead and cancel your appointments. I know you guys don't want to believe this, but Kelly is the next Browns coach - the Bills and Eagles are just leverage for his agent at this point. He is saying everything his agent wants him to say to get a few extra $$$ out of the Browns. You can now either A) go to sleep, or B) start ranting how things will never change until Ralph is gone. -

From all the secondary talk it's pretty evident that this deal was in the works for some time now. He has obvious ties to Joe Banner - the Bills aren't losing him to a more glamorous city or a stronger organization. -

He's saying we missed out on the next Belichick. Except instead of using the name "Belichick," he replaced it with "surly, cheating, Marcia-lover" or something to that effect. I haven't seen anyone disparaging Kelly. Read before you rant. -
