  1. That's a great play for sure. But showing him make one play doesn't illustrate the other entire games where he was silent. When I said you couldn't notice him on the field, I didn't mean it in the literal sense (I thought that was obvious). I can link you a video of Trent Edward throwing a perfect TD pass - what does that accomplish? I see this posted all the time, and I think it's laughable. Fans throw the "meaningless preseason" phrase around whenever it conveniently fits their argument. Do these games count toward the standings? Of course not. Are we running vanilla schemes? Sure. But playing in a preseason game isn't an excuse for poor tackling. It's not the reason why a LB gets pancaked by a guard or smoked in coverage by a fullback. Preseason is the time where many starting jobs are won and lost. Try telling the 40+ players that will be cut this summer that these games are meaningless.
  2. You're right. Nix probably never heard of him before draft day. I mean, he was only the GM. How about we just blame Jauron, reset Nix's draft day batting average to 1.000, and call it a night? Exactly!
  3. Yeah, and Nix was one of those scouts under Modrak that were the primary source of the Bills' board that season. Again, Nix wasn't on some tropical island for the past 5 years oblivious to college football. He was scouting for us for a year before he got elevated to the GM position. He was GM during the draft, it falls on him. For the record, I am a big Nix fan. If anything, the Troup situation just highlights what a gamble draft picks are. But if you're sitting here trying to blame the Troup pick on Modrak, you are in some serious denial.
  4. There's no way any rational fan believes that Nix was using another person's board. That's completely preposterous. That draft lies solely on Nix, for better or worse. That was the beginning of our switch to the 3-4 -- Troup was drafted as a NT, Carrington as a 3-4 end, and Merriman brought on for our OLB. That was the plan anyways.
  5. A back injury is tough on any player, let alone a guy his size.
  6. He started the last 9 games of last season. Didn't notice him, huh? I don't blame you, he was hard to spot. Look for the guy getting swallowed up by guards and tangled up in running plays. I'm not ready to run him out of town just yet, but right now he just isn't playing at an NFL level. I hope he improves - fast. I am by no means a Poz-lover, but there were 42.5 million reasons for Poz not getting re-signed, and "not good enough to play the position" isn't one of them. I can't believe I just defended Poz....
  7. On the bright side, we no longer have to explain to people why he is not a LB in a 4-3 defense.
  8. My understanding is that our 3 LB positions are almost interchangeable - that's coming from Wanny himself. I'm not saying they are exactly the same, but the difference is much less than moving outside/inside in our old 3-4 defense. Right now this team needs to figure out who those starting 3 are going to be, and it's becoming apparent that Sheppard should not be one of them. I'm not ready to completely write the kid off, but he's just not ready for a starting role yet.
  9. He was running around in circles last night. There was a play where he got absolutely smoked by either their tight end or a fullback, I can't remember which and I don't even want to watch it again because it was so ugly.
  10. If you still honesty believe that getting a 4th round pick for Evans was a bad trade then you are beyond delusional. Either that or you're not big enough to admit you were wrong. Don't worry, you may still get to see your hero play again, I hear the Ti-Cats are interested.
  11. Did any of those players completely stink for 3 straight years? Maybe you should point out what a great decoy Evans was.
  12. Keep in mind that there is a huge difference between playing inside and outside in a 3-4 scheme. He really didn't even see the field last year, and 30 is not considered over-the-hill for a LB. In the 4-3 we are running this year the LB spots will be almost interchangeable (that's coming from Wanny), which is much closer to the MLB position he excelled at in Oakland. I'm not saying he is still that player, but I don't think he gets cut. There's just no way we carry 8 LBs in our current 4-3 scheme. Even 7 would be pushing it. The LB battle is going to be very interesting over the new few weeks.
  13. I'm not one to kick people right after they've been cut, and I'd like to set the record straight about my overrated comment - I've been saying Lee Evans and his career 3.2 rec/game was overrated for the past 5 years.
  14. If they ever build a Mount Rushmore of overrated Bills players, Lee Evans will be the first player sculpted.
  15. Hot summer weather School's out Night game Practically free admission Meaningless preseason game Yeah, what could go wrong?
  16. He's the definition of a "1 read and run" QB. He looked lost in the passing game and it's clear he has no idea what he's doing in this offense thus far. But he did look better than Thigpen last night so...
  17. The real winners this week are the Refs that are on strike. They had to gain a lot of leverage after this, becuase it's now obvious there's no way in hell we can start the season with these clowns. That was brutal.
  18. After that last pick, I'd agree. What did he underthrow him by, 15 yards? ouch....
  19. Oh man Fitz looks rough. Like the Fitz from the last 8 games of last season. It's only preseason It's only preseason It's only preseason
  20. About as much as you can show for not having played a preseaon game yet. They showed Johnson looking good in practice, V. Davis sort of lollygagging, a scrimmage, and they highlighted the QB competition between Garard, Moore, and Tannehill (Garrard in the lead atm). They did the standard husband/wife interviews together for the 3 quarterbacks, probably to further reinforce what's at stake here. They showed a pretty unique practice technique implemented by Philbin that has both the first and second units on the field at the same time, which doubles the amount of snaps they get and keeps the practice tempo high. Of course Johnson hammed it up as expected, and the rookies got thier first hazing. I was also surpised that the players get to stay in such a swank hotel, while most teams opt for the basic dorm lifestyle. Great first episode and I'm always amazed at the editing, especially when you consider they only have a day or two to piece the whole show together before it airs.
  21. Yes, he definitely played MLB in Oak when he was racking up those 100+ tackle seasons.
  22. Yeah Morrison really didn't play at all last year, so I don't know who the Morrison haters were watching. When he actually did get a few snaps at the end of the season, he was ILB in a 3-4 playing out of his natural position. I think Morrison is going to be an above average OLB for us this year.
  23. Forbes had the Browns valued at $977M, so that $1B figure is a fair price. Forbes has the Bills valued at $792M in case anyone is curious. Of course, if the new owner had the intent of moving the team to LA, then the Bills could easily go for over $1B in that scenario.
