If you believe that what I say on this forum has any affect on EJs play, then I have some homoepathic medicine I want to sell you. Being prepared and making astute deals has nothing to do with cowardice, and everything to do with intelligence. We haven't made the playoffs in 14 years because we haven't had a QB. And yes, it IS that simple. If EJ plays 16 games and absolutely flames out and we go 5-11, then I don't feel he deserves to be named the starter for 2015 and he should have to compete for his job. If our staff can't tell what we've got in a QB after 2 years than we need a new staff. Kelly we have a fundamentally different way of looking at this and I don't think we're going to be able to reach an agreement here. I'm saying we made a bad deal based on current draft value rankings and historical trades (Dion Jordon). Let's say I ask you for change for a $5 bill, and you give me $1 back. I think we can both agree that I got fleeced in that deal. Now, if I go out and buy a lottery ticket with that $1 that wins me $1,000, it doesn't mean I didn't make a terrible deal - it only means I made good use of what I got. I'm not going to run around telling people about that deal, and I'm certainly not going to make that deal in the future. I think the Bills made good use of what they got, and I hope Watkins is that $1,000. But the deal itself is terrible.

There's great players that come out every year in the draft. Pretending that the 2015 draft will be a barren wasteland devoid of any talent is rationalization at it's most extreme. There's no question that Watkins is a phenom and the Bills did their due diligence, they just gave up far too much. As an example, Watkins was a projected 2nd round pick at this exact time last year. You don't understand that there's the possibility that EJ won't make it as an NFL QB. I'm rooting for the guy 100%, but really, it's possible that could happen. Yes I remember the Carolina game, but I also remember the balls he threw into the stands against the Jets. And if that worst-case scenario happens, it would be nice to have the option to fix it next year. Win now, right?

I'm always going to post my opinion, whether it's approval or criticism of the Bills. I'm a Bills fan until death, but I will never be a blind cheerleader. If reading negative opinions about the team affects you that deeply, you're going to have a bad time regardless of which site you visit. As stated above, the Julio Jones trade is only used as a comparison because they are both WRs - the circumstances are completely different. Atlanta was a playoff team looking for the last piece of the puzzle to win a SB, and they already had their franchise QB in place. The pick they gave up in the first round was a low pick and at the time next year's pick was also expected to be a low one. A better comparison is the Dion Jordan trade last year. Miami moved up from #12 (lower than us) to #3 (higher than us) and it only cost them a future 2nd rounder. Cleveland knew we were desperate to win now and transitioning owners, and they took advantage of the situation and dragged Whaley out behind the woodshed on this deal. If EJ snaps his leg in preseason or doesn't pan out (I know, I know - that's impossible, right?) we are in big trouble and we may not have the ammunition to remedy the problem in next year's draft. JMHO of course.
