Dareus did a great job of plugging his gaps on the line, but that's not what you paid him $90M dollars to do. You're right that the entire defense shouldn't be built around him and what he wants. It should be built around what they do best -- and it certainly wasn't. Rex just took the best pass rushing DL in the entire league and effectively neutered it.

No, they couldn't. Right now, in early February, the Sabres are 2 wins or 6 points off their season total from last year. If you don't see that as an improvement, then you are either blind or purposely acting obtuse. I'd be willing to bet that by the end of the year, they are no more than 10 points away from the 8-spot. That isn't some monumental hill to climb. Nobody had them pegged as playoff-bound this year. The team is being built correctly from the center-out. They are the youngest team in the league, and have the 4th lowest payroll.

We were handed a tremendous gift last year, and we squandered it. We drew the 2 worst divisions in football and we couldn't even distinguish ourselves from those 8 craptastic teams. The AFC was top-heavy with very few "true" contenders and a huge bunch of pretenders. We weren't even at the level of the pretenders -- despite playing that cupcake schedule. If you think the NFC West and the AFC North are going to be weaker than the AFC South and NFC East next year, you need to start actually watching other games. Seriously, stop burying your heads in stats to make excuses and watch the games. The physicality of play in those 2 divisions is off the charts compared to what we saw this year.
