And we haven't seen the guaranteed money, structure and outs yet. Anyone praising or panning the deal without this information simply doesn't know what they are talking about.
This is not true. It's very location dependent, but even in a lower-paying area, after expenses (gas, insurance, vehicle depreciation) you will still make more than minimum wage. And in a higher paying area, it can be fairly lucrative.
But it's not the same product, it's a much better service. When I go out of town and want to go out for drinks at night on a weekend, I tap Uber and a car is at my location in about 5-10 minutes. It also notifies me 1 minute before it arrives. With a cab it can take anywhere from 15-60 minutes at night on a weekend, and I have to keep checking the window to make sure he isn't sitting outside waiting (can't honk and wake up the neighbors). And you can forget about trying to get a cab to take you back home from the bars when it's late, that could take forever.
So, you think that after last season ended, Fitz sat down with his agent and said "Try to get me a 1 year deal for about $12M, I want to be the 23rd highest paid QB next year?" You think the market will be hotter in 2017 than it was in 2016 for 34-year old journeyman QBs?
C'mon now.
Incorrect, they could not have got this done in March as at the time he was demanding a multi-year deal for more money. There really was no rush to sign him to a 1yr deal in June or July as training camp hasn't started in either scenario. "Dragging out the negotiation" is really inconsequential, and only served to benefit the Jets in the end. Plus they needed the time to put a hard cap figure on the Wilkerson deal to determine exactly how much money they need to free up this year. I know everyone on here wants to bash a division rival, but they came up aces with this deal.
Have to give the Jets props, they played this brilliantly. They got a team-friendly deal and didn't mortgage their future with Fitz. The Bills fan in me was really hoping to face Fitz twice a year for the next 3-4 years.
Did Buddy Ryan bring either of his sons immediately into the NFL with zero coaching experience at any level? Hardly the same thing. Image the wisdom this 22-year old is going to bring to the locker room.
In the grand scheme of things, it's hardly worth noting. But it is more bloat to an already bloated coaching staff.
