  1. It's a lot easier to draft starters when you have glaring holes in your lineup. I couldn't envision any possible draft scenario where we didn't get starters at CB and WR. Hope this kid works out, but this feels like a bit of a reach.
  2. OMG that Cowboys announcement was a draft highlight for the ages. WOW
  3. Come on now McD. You're ruining the warm, fuzzy feelings from yesterday's trade.
  4. Yeah I hope this trade up rumor is BS.
  5. I'm surprised Cam Robinson is still out there. Saban said he's the best OL he's ever had at Alabama.
  6. It's difficult for many to get excited by a CB because if they do their job well you generally don't see them on TV. I certainly understand the animosity for replacing a 1st round pick lost in FA with another 1st round pick. But the situation is what it is, and I don't think anyone can argue that CB isn't a position of need. I expect them to take another CB on day 3, and a safety as well.
  7. Right. After four years of working under the modus operandi of instant gratification, Doug "Win Now" Whaley -- with his job seemingly in jeopardy -- does a complete 180 and decides to start building for the future. Sure. I don't know what's more entertaining -- the draft, or the Doug Whaley apologists trying to convince themselves that he's still calling the shots. If somebody wants to set the odds on how many times we hear the word "collaborative" in the next month, I would like to bet the over.
  8. With the rough rule of thumb, the 3rd in 2018 would be worth a 4th this year. From what I understand, most teams use their own internal chart that vary slightly from the one posted here. Also, it's very important to understand that each draft is different and results can vary wildly depending on who is available. For example, there is no way you were trading into the #2 spot for the Luck/RG3 draft like Chicago did today. It took a king's ransom to get that pick because of the players involved. The naysayers can point out the aberrations, but for the most part the draft chart is still very much alive.
  9. Bears 2600 49ers 2200+255+104+41= 2600 It's right using the rough rule of thumb method of devaluing future picks by 1 round.
  10. We're sacrificing a little bit of value for more personnel. This team has a lot of holes to fill. There's also very little room for the Chiefs to improve, and a ton of room for them to drop which would only benefit us.
  11. If no one is there, trade down again.
  12. What an amazing trade. Is this the Bills front office I'm watching?
  13. Leroi has given some good inside info before, but you're not going to convince me that he's privy to the team's draft board 24 hours before the draft. When you're picking 10th, it's not difficult to name 5 players and hit on one of them. That being said, if his top 4 players are off the board and we pick John Ross, I will come back to this thread for my mea culpa. I'll be absolutely sick to my stomach, but I'll come back to give credit.
  14. It was a huge mistake to keep Whaley on board -- he should have been gone with Ryan back in December. However, if these rumors are true and we fire him and the scouting staff after the draft, I would question if Pegula has lost his sanity. He's starting to make the late George Steinbrenner seem patient and rational. Then again, if Whaley attempts to trade our 2018 1st rounder to move up in this draft, I would fire him on the spot and have him escorted out of the building by security on national television.
  15. "I don’t think you would find anybody leaving home for the holidays because of a football game." I think he's very, very mistaken about this. As soon as the schedule was released last night, there's been a lot of buzz from friends about getting tickets for this game and booking flights. It surprised me because these are people that would never typically travel to see the Bills. The game is just the sideshow to the real event -- partying in downtown Miami on NYE.
  16. The Pats just signed Dan Blysma and Tim Murray.
  17. They fired the wrong GM.
  18. Two years ago he threw for more yards and TDs in a season than any QB in Bills' franchise history, so I don't think you close the door on him just yet. That being said, turning him over to Nate Hackett at this stage in his career seems like cruel and unusual punishment.
  19. You're correct. High roster churn, low number of draft picks, and minimal cap space are all the result of trying to build a team through free agency. You simply cannot sustain a competitive roster with this approach in today's game. It's the wrong approach, philosophy, business plan - whatever you want to call it. Those of us that chide Whaley for this don't just "want more comp picks." We want a GM that understands that you have to build through the draft, and one that knows how to manipulate and take advantage of the current system. Getting 6 draft picks in the first 4 rounds is a ridiculously huge competitive advantage for the teams smart enough to exploit it year in and year out. And no, this doesn't mean you cannot be aggressive in free agency. Our pals the Patriots put on a crazy free agent fireworks display this offseason. Would anyone disagree? And yet there they are, still in position to get 1 comp pick next year. Based on Sheard's $8.5M APY, it could be a 3rd, but will probably be no lower than a 4th. In our case, comp picks are just the symptom of a much, much larger problem.
  20. You can still pick up free agents and get compensatory picks every year. Well, the smart front offices can, which eliminates us. The same posters here that think this is just about comp picks are the same people that start the "Is the stadium built on a cursed burial ground??" posts every December.
  21. You're absolutely correct, but good luck trying to explain this. The football IQ of some of the replies in this thread is embarrassing. I watch other teams manipulate picks years down the road with the shrewdness of a chess grandmaster, while Doug Whaley can't figure out how to open the box. Incorrect. It is.
