The problem is not the man, Sean McDermott. The problem is Sean McDermott’s defensive scheme. The undersized front and tweener linebackers are subject to injuries. I find it ironic that we understand controlling the line of scrimmage on the offensive side of the ball but still don’t draft and scheme to control it on the defensive side. We have a great regular season defense but it all changes in the playoffs. The term “fool’s gold” is a good term to describe this defense. Additionally, the line of scrimmage issues come to light when we play physical, run-focused teams. I think this coupled with the lack of experience on the back end with our safety play will result in an early playoff exit. The strength of the defense is the ability to disguise coverages and bait turnovers. I don’t see us doing that against an equally good team, especially one that can run the rock and control the line of scrimmage. I think we’re getting set up for a Bill Parcell’s type lesson in the playoffs. Run the ball, eat clock, keep Josh off the field. I hope I’m wrong.

@Shaw66 well written and absolutely spot on. I was at the game as well. Was surprised by the light traffic upon arrival the same as you, everyone was already there! Our tailgating experience was grabbing a couple free Labatts lights from Canadians who had to get rid of the Zubaz striped 12 packs they were carrying around before entering the gate. Amazing time!

For me: -Chicago has a pre-season game under their belt already -Very vanilla pre-season -D-line still not generating a pass rush -O-line not great at run blocking -Not happy about Big Ed getting nicked up on first play -Oh, and I’m not a fan of the new kickoff. -Go Bills

I’m feeling excited from the interviews. Sounds like Joe Brady is going to have a full off-season to install his offense. Sounds like Cook will mature and we’ll have some great options in putting defenses in a dilemma. Sounds like Josh is looking at nutrition this off season and taking care of his body. Thought the talk of chest hair that led to chest definition and general QB bodies and mechanics was great. Agree with others that we need some more weapons. I also keyed in on Josh’s statement about Andy Reid where he said guys were schemed open. We need more of that. the revelations of the Dunne article and whatever McD said were very interesting. Highlighted as the turnaround point. I feel good.

I think that McD’s defensive strength is the back end of the defenses and his ability to disguise coverages. McD’s propensity to stay in nickel defenses leads to the amount of injuries we continue to sustain. The system is causing the injuries. I think we need to change the style of defense that we play. As we go through multiple players we lose the ability to disguise coverages and the overall efficiency of the defense suffers. I think most posters are correct in their assertions that our Divisional Playoff woes are laid at the feet of the defense. My point is that it’s the style of defense that we play that leads to the injuries and eventual attrition that results in Playoff collapses. We need a change on the defensive side of the ball. my two cents!

Same experience here. Went out last year and it was phenomenal. Highly recommend a trip out there. Everyone was fantastic.

Ravens are different now. The new OC has really turned Lamar into a true dual threat QB. The defensive concepts we’ve used in the past to contain Lamar need to be tweaked to account for the improved passing aspect of their game now. If we end up playing the Ravens it will be a true heavyweight fight. Best team on that day will win the game.

This made me laugh out loud. Although, I think Coach B will bring his A+ coaching game to this one.
