For anyone that lists Williams just stop yourself. He was predicted to be a top 5 draft. If Dareus flames out in three years will anyone blame Nix? He was the consensus best DL player. Williams was 1 of 2 supposed elite tackles. Turns out neither of them have been elite. You can't blame the Bills for Williams failure. EVERYONE loved the pick. McCargo and Losman are the most egregious not only because they were god awful but somehow he convinced people to trade up to get these disasters. There is a reason Losman went to Tulane. Just like there is a reason Kopernicus went to Nevada. McCargo was the third best player on his college DL.

Don't forget Stupar and Lankster...They are gods on this board.

Why do people think Williams will play a 3-4 DE? He never has. He will be a rotating NT with Troup when they play a 3-4 and will play a DT with either Troup or Dareus when in a 4 down lineman set. He will never and has never played DE. Dwan Edwards or Carrington will play DE opposite Dareus and really they will all rotate those positions. I don't know if Spencer Johnson or McCargo is the other DE or if they use Kelsay as the fourth DE. I can't seen them keeping 3 NT's so that leaves maybe one more spot besides Kelsay. I hope they are able to practice squad Jasper. Then again the new CBA may allow a couple extra players to be added to the roster.

Agreed. These are the same guys that say the best teams draft best available player instead of reaching for a need. Then they turn around and bash the Bills for not drafting a QB. Dalton and Copernicus will be garbage in the NFL. How many times do you think it would be a good idea to draft a QB who played at Nevada in the pistol offense or was a 4 year starter that won a lot of games on a team with an amazing defense and played garbage competition. Ken Dorsey had many wins and played in much bigger games than Dalton and he flamed out of the NFL. Once Darues fell to them and Locker/Ponder were off the board QB was a dead position.

2008 Bills Draft- grade me now.
Dragonborn10 replied to buffan4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
DeShaun Jackson looks pretty good and he was avaiable with that pick! Three starters on this team does not mean they start for most other teams. My guess is only McKelvin starts for another team with a decent front 7 and Stevie is 4th WR since he doesn't play the slot WR. -
First of all there is no "starting defense" It is all about packages. The defense will switch based on the offensive personnel and scheme. KC and Oakland are the first two games and they have fantastic running games. I would bet they play predominantly a 4-3 in those games to get Troup, Dareus, and Williams all on the field at the same time. And on third down they typically play 4 down lineman(one of which may be a OLB in a 3 point stance) in the dime and nickel packages. Dareus will move to DT for Troup and Carrington and Maybin/Kelsay will play DE. Sheppard may be the guy in the middle on the nickel and dime packages because we know Poz can't cover anyone out of the backfield or in the deep middle. I hate Kelsay as a starter but he may have a role as a pass rushing DE. I can't see Maybin making the team at this point but if a miracle happens or Merriman's no longer on roids body breaks down a gain then he and or Batten will fight for the OLB spot. Base 4-3 DL Edwards, Williams, Troup, Dareus LB Merriman, Poz(Sheppard), Moats DB McKelvin, Mcgee, Byrd, Wilson Base 3-4 DL Edwards, Williams, Dareus LB Merriman, Poz, Sheppard, Moats DB McKelvin, McGee, Byrd, Wilson Nickel DL Carrington, Williams, Dareus, Maybin/Kelsay LB Sheppard, Moats DB McKelvin, McGee, Williams, Byrd, Wilson Dime DL Carrington, Williams, Dareus, Moats LB Sheppard Db McGee, McKelvin, Corner, Williams, Wilson, Byrd

Nice SI article from Don Banks

Nix looks like he is holding up RW in the picture on CNN SI. I would be surprised if RW survives the lockout. He looks worse in every picture I see of him. -
51 years without picking a QB first
Dragonborn10 replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You assume a franchise QB must come with the first pick. Well Jim Kelly comes to mind and then that Brady guy.... Gabbert came from a spread formation shot gun system. Most of these QB's are awful and undraftable even if they win the Heisman(See Jason White). Bradford makes you rethink that but he may still be the exception. -
ESPN looked at Dareus and Fairley on day 2. They showed Dareus play NT, DT, and DE. Fairley is a 3 technique one year wonder DT. Dareus solves so many problems for this team and instantly makes all the other DL's better. Gabbert would have sat for at least a year behind Fitzy and we would be breaking him in in 2012. If Fitz blows then next year there is Luck and Barkley and I'm sure others to go after and they can start as a rookie knowing Fitz blows. There is no lost time. If Fitz turns out to be serviceable then next year they can upgrade the OLB and/or LT spot. I can't see how anyone would not have chosen Dareus. I had hoped for Locker in round two. I thought his up/down career at UW was due to the lack of talent there and it appears at least one GM agrees.

For what it is worth... 1. B+ Dareus 2. B- Williams 3. C Sheppard 4. B Searcy 4. A Hairston 5. A White 6. C White 7. B Rogers 7. C Jasper I think the C for Sheppard is a bit harsh from Prisco. He looks like a solid pick. Otherwise at least this website seems to like what Buffalo did.

Round 4 (Pick 122): OT Chris Hairston - Clemson
Dragonborn10 replied to Sisyphean Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wasn't Wang injured most of the year and doesn't he project better at LT anyways where Bell played the whole season???? -
Trading down means you pick up extra picks thus increasing your odds of a player panning out... Clay Mathews was from PAC-10. Suh from Big 12. I like the SEC too but there are other conferences.
-
Enough of the high motor guys. They tried that with Kelsay and he sucks. Big, fast, SEC. In that order.
-
1. A 2. B- 3. B- Why can't this team ever trade down?
-
I said OT first then Stanzi. An OT and a TE would be fine with me as well.

A swing offensive tackle and Stanzi Your thoughts?

Official Non-Bills Draft Thread
Dragonborn10 replied to Ghost of Rob Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Berman is just awful now. He is so slow to think and react. BTW all these draft experts basically have the same order of players give or take a spot or two. -
Agree ILB or OT

Rudolph or anyone not named Mallett

A.J Green will be the # 3 pick
Dragonborn10 replied to Buffalo 66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Green isn't even the consensus best WR. If they really feel the need to get a WR they don't need, then trade down and draft Julio Jones. Hell if Newton and Gabbert are still on the board (Carolina takes Dareus and Denver takes either Peterson or Miller) then they could trade down to Arizona's or Minnesota's spot and Green may still be there. Nothing helps a QB more than an offensive line, a running game, a defense that produces turnovers and short fields to work with, a quality offensive coordinator, and their own talent. WR's are about the least important part of what makes a QB look good. -
Anyone Else Hear Jerry Sullivan on WGR Monday?

Pray to God Newton is there at three and trade the pick for a mountain of other picks to Minnesota.
