  1. Bring back A. Williams and Leodis McKelvin. Both can probably be signed for one year incentive laden contracts. I honestly thought Leodis would make a very good FS. His biggest issue was turning and locating the ball. He can run with anyone in the league and if he is square to the LOS most of the time he will make more plays on the ball. I like Barnridge. J. Byrd is on the short list of most overrated Bills of all time. He is terrible. Even his dad probably knows that.
  2. I want organized. I want to hear less from McDermott about process, character, and the path. That craps plays out well in a MBA project but less so in athletics. Give me prepared and organized. As many players have said, take away the thinking and play fast. That does not mean the players are dumb or unable to grasp concepts. It means that if a defense is predicated on 11 guys making the correct read and then making an athletic play, that is not a plan for long term success. Less thinking means less pre-snap adjustments. It means call a play, read the formation, read your keys, and go. Guys are much less likely to be out of position. And there is virtually no way a defense is going to fool most above average QB's. The media wants to equate less thinking and not playing smart. The two have nothing to do with each other. They can play very smart by scheme, preparation, and actually looking at the LOS when the ball is snapped.
  3. Cardale. I didn't like the pick but I would like to see him develop and make the team. Peterman will make the team. But if Cardale is the #2 that means he has made strides with the new coaching staff. Hopefully he has some nice preseason performances and earns a spot. At the worst, he could be used in a trade if he plays better.
  4. Dink, dunk, hit them over the top. That is the NFL. That is what they need to do in the passing game. And it can be in so many variations. They can dink and dunk to Sammy on screens, and hit Shady or Clay deep just as easily as letting Sammy go deep. TT just needs to get better at delivering the ball in spots where whoever catches the ball can make a play. 3 yards needs to be the potential for 8 or 12 or 15. Even the TT believers like myself know he needs to get better in this phase of the passing game.
  5. Unlikely it will improve. McD will get rid of more of the old players and he has already shown he will give up picks and draft for need.I just want McD to fix the defense and leave the roster building to others.
  6. I should have said question marks at starting TE and RT. Hodges hopefully solves OLB. Clay has a knee issue. Mills is terrible but Dawkins might be better. I'm not sold on Poyer.
  7. Odd I would say the opposite. The depth at WR, LB, DB, OL, and Qb are all better than last year. The problem is they don't have a starting SS, OLB, TE, RT, and if Lawson doesn't pan out at DE they have a hole at starter there as well. That doesn't even address the Sammy injury issues. They have done a good job of adding a ton of middle of the road talent. That works if you have a QB or a dominant position group to mask the other starter's deficiencies. Will TT and/or the running game be good enough to overcome RT, TE, and WR group. Will the DL return to dominance? Can the DL rush the passer and defend the run at the same time. We will see. This off-season feels like the Patriots early years with BB. They added a number of FA guys and cobbled together an effective defense and let Brady manage the games. Can McD undo the damage Rex did in a single year?
  8. Nothing wrong with public financing as long as you know it will not be an investment in the community, it will not bring long term jobs, and it will be a huge cost to the taxpayer. We pay taxes for all kinds of things. I pay airport and hotel taxes all over the world. I have no issue with paying taxes - or asking the citizens of WNY to pay while I live on the west coast. Just be honest what I get in return. I get to watch the team I grew up with and enjoy/be miserable for 16 Sundays a year and have hope during the five month off-season. Just don't tell me it will be food for the city or bring any long term jobs. Stadiums don't and they never will.
  9. Here we go again. Now we have the Anti-Rex character guy as HC. Let's get rid of all guys that aren't toeing the line. CK was playing at a very high level at LT. You just don't throw those guys away. What is the point of cutting him now? There is not some other bum on the 90 man roster that is a sure fire cut they can get rid of? How about the waste of a space TJ Yates??? Makes no sense unless he has a suspension coming. Even then he would not count against the 53 man number. We have given total control of the franchise to a career assistant who sounds like Marv the GM. While I doubt he could be worse than Rex, just being anti-Rex will not work either.
  10. I agree with you. The only benefit is that no starter and most of the second team will not have to take a snap and risk injury I the final preseason game. I suppose the other benefit is there is one more chance for the really marginal guys to make a play or two in the final preseason game. Otherwise I think this hurts guys chances of being picked up on another teams roster. But I think it addresses the reality that training camp and pre-season is really only to evaluate the last 10 guys on the roster. Every one of us can pick 40-45 of the players that will be on the team.
  11. They should stop putting players on the wall until Gilchrist is added. I don't understand how Aaron Schobel does not get more love from this board. He was the best player they had while he was there. Second all time in sacks for the Bills - 16 and 26 more than Hansen and Biscuit respectively. Ruben Brown, Schobel, and maybe Moulds are most deserving for retired players. Fred Jackson was great but Cribbs was better. They can save a place for Kyle because he is assured a spot when he retires.
  12. For a veteran you have not been reading this board much. Players cant get better from year to year. HOF QBs are only drafted in the first round. Veteran fan favorites do not age or slow dowm. Any player that wants a new contract is not a Buffalo guy. The backup QB is the best player on the team. And never ever admit you are wrong!!!!
  13. Barry Sanders and OJ Simpson come to mind. But Joe Thomas will be a first ballot HOF LT on perhaps the worst team run in NFL history. Others?
  14. With the drafting of Dawkins and the CK injury, I think the starting five will be from left to right Glenn, Incognito, Wood, Miller, and Dawkins. I was a big proponent of CK at LT and Glenn at RT but I cant see that happening with them signing Mills and drafting Dawkins. I would not be surprised if Groy wins the starting center job and Wood is traded for a starting LB. I do not see a guard that can beat out Miller and Richie. They could be a top 2 or 3 guard combo. Looking forward to the discussion
  15. Did Karlos switch to OLB? Those three wins the OP mentioned were the fault of Rex and the defense not the offense. The defense lost both Miami games, the Oakland, Pittsburgh, and Seattle games. Scheme alone wins three of those games.
  16. Great post. Ryan destroyed this team and the defense got worse as the season went on even with Lawson and Dareus back. An average defense gets them a win over Miami at home, Seattle and Oakland on the road. That was enough to make the playoffs.
  17. NE boring? Since when? They dont do anything "boring". They are two steps ahead of everyone. They devalued the RB and running game first, they modernized the two TE set, their two minute offense is Brady throwing on first, second, and third downs, now they are trading away or giving up draft picks for veterans. As for controversy they have tons of that too - from murders to cheats. They win because they got the greatest QB ever in the sixth round and Belichick is two steps ahead either fairly or by cheating. But they are not the model organization you wish to emulate. I will take Green Bay, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore (one major scrwup by Ozzie with Ray Rice does tarnish his legacy).
  18. There are two keys to the schedule to making the playoffs. They need to go 4-0 against NYJ and Miami Then they need to win 3 of the following 4 - Denver, at Cinci, at LA Chargers, at Chiefs. These are all winnable games with each team having issues. That is 7 wins out of those 8 games. That means they need only get 2-3 more wins of the remaining 8 to have a legit shot at the playoffs. 9-7 with the above wins against AFC teams probably makes the playoffs, 10-6 nearly certain. This team needs a big win early - Denver at home or upset Carolina on the road to get some momentum.
  19. He was terrible last year. He was slow and looked overweight in the middle. He needs to drop 15 pounds. He was an odd choice to play OLB in the 3-4. His best chance of playing well is as a 4-3 DE. My worry is he is not enough of a pass rusher to be the nickel DE. I think Lorax probably will get most of those snaps. If he comes to camp in better shape then maybe he will be a three down player. What I saw last year was a guy who probably holds the edge against the run but offered little in pass rush.
  20. And if we already have a QB that can win and we fixed the left side of the defensive backfield for the next 5 years, we will be quite happy. The defense not the offense was and still is the issue. I am hopeful it was mostly bad scheme. I think Rex caused great harm and a simple return to a 4-3 defense will offer far greater returns than a rookie QB.
  21. That is what I was going to say as well. Kelly beating the Dolphins in Miami on the last play of the game.
  22. Nice job young man. Stay the course and keep developing. You have the chance to set yourself up for the next two decades with a5 or 6 year runs as a QB in the NFL. I have my doubt that he will develop but I hope he at least gets a fair shot with the new regime. The kid took an absolute beating against Alabama and just kept getting up. If nothing else he seems to have courage and determination. That goes a long way.
  23. So did Jim Tressel at Ohio State until his star QB was involved.
  24. Pegula is on his third HC and just turned the entire organization over to a first time HC, and that is just the NFL team ... You should not throw stones at black kettles, or is it glass house pots???
