"Tyrod is the Bills ____ best player?"
Dragonborn10 replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will take the analytics/replacement value approach. Instead of comparing him to all the players, I ranked based on replacement value or the gap between the player and his back-up. I have Hyde much higher than others because the drop off from him to his back-up is from starter level to near practice squad level. Sammy is an elite talent with no comparison on the team. Again the drop-off from TT to any other QB on the roster is no less than 8 wins. 1. Sammy 2. TT 3. McCoy 4. Hyde 5. Incognito 6. Hughes 7. Dareus 8. Kyle 9. White 10. Glenn -

Was it Whaley/Overdorf or is it just Buffalo??? Does Buffalo need to pay a premium to get players to stay/sign? The article does not mention that the Bills have not had to pay top money to a QB. This makes it easier to spend money elsewhere. I don't think any player that was let go or not retained was due to cap issues. Maybe Gilmore is the only player they would have kept if not for being so close to the cap. Article fails to mention good and bad decisions not to sign players. Spiller was allowed to walk - Very very Good. Hogan. I don't know what to say - probably bad as could have had with a reasonable tender. McKelvin - Good. Bradham - mixed. Seacry - mixed.

Dragonborn10 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Atlanta fails to make the playoffs 2. New England loses in the divisional round of the playoffs 3. Agree - both Marvin Lewis and Mike McCarthy lose their jobs 4. Andrew Luck continues to regress - win total and INT's worse than 2016 5. Mike Glennon is replaced by week *, but John Fox still gets fired 6. Jason Whiten retires 7. Brandin Cooks has less catches and yards than 2016 8. Rex Ryan is fired or reassigned by Thanksgiving 9. Arizona does not bounce back 10. Championship games - Carolina v. Seattle; Oakland v. Pittsburgh -
Thanks Jay "Debbie Downer."

I mostly agree, however the offense can still be very good with a terrible defense and result in 3-13. They have question marks, not holes, but legit questions at virtually every position on defense. Kyle age. Dareus substance issues. Darby was terrible last year. Lawson was fat and slow. All of these issues are manageable and there is a great deal of upside and optimism for me with Rex gone.Solve the defense and they will be in the playoffs. -
Cousins reportedly won't be re-signing in Washington
Dragonborn10 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone know if the franchise tag prohibits a trade? If they know he is gone after this year, why not trade him this year? Diminished value knowing he may be a one year rental, but still they probably could get some value. -

NFL is a more violent sport. The NFLPA did the right thing by agreeing to slot and lower rookie salaries. What The rookies get in the other leagues is far less than what the NFL pays. And it was much much worse. $60+ million for Sam Bradford before he ever took a snap. Now the NFLPA needs to fight for at least 50% of revenue and spread that out by adding a 2-3 active roster spots, a designated developmental QB spot, a slightly higher league minimum, and then whatever is left over is free to be used however the team wants. I am still in favor of the large signing bonus and prorated cap charge over fully guaranteed contracts. I hate seeing guys in the NBA just traded to move their bloated contracts around. If the money is fully guaranteed there is little incentive to sacrifice for the team. Pay them more, a lot more, but keep making them earn their contracts. One other addition would be mandatory injury insurance policies. -
[closed]Will McDermott practice what he preaches?
Dragonborn10 replied to BuffaloBud420's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Washington will not be cut. The principle, discipline, culture guys always give in to talent and need. Washington is the top and only back-up DE/DT they have. He is not a 7th WR or LB. He is needed. He has talent. He isn't going anywhere and McDermott will spin it as keeping him in the family is good for the player. -
Rex was a disaster but the zone blitz is one of the great defensive innovations of the last couple decades. Everyone uses it. The issue is not the zone blitz. It is not using the D-line to penetrate and pass rush instead they just occupied blockers. That works if you have Wilfork or Ted Washington. If you have Dareus and KW they should rush the passer and penetrate on almost every down. This is how I see it too. Also there will be times with Washington at DE (unarmed) and Hughes at OLB. Probably against run heavy teams or situations.

Why the Playoffs are a Real Possibility

Dragonborn10 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Obviously you don't get the point. Look no further back than last year. I'm sure you would have said 0-2 against the Pats and 2-0 against the Jets in 2016 as well. But the fact Brady was suspended wasn't entirely settled yet. How about losing to the Jets and beating the Cardinals. 95% of the board would have predicted the opposite. The stats prove there is no correlation. Injuries, free agency, draft, home/away, time between games, and season ending scenarios all play a bigger factor than the prior years record. So, lets just play the games and see what happens without Rex. -

[Vague Title]2017 Buffalo Bills... who will be:
Dragonborn10 replied to TheyCallMeAndy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When this season is all said and done, who will be the: Team MVP: Shady Offensive breakout star: Watkins - he will have 1250 yards and wil lbe a Pro-Bowl alternate - (Brown and Cooks) Defensive breakout star: White Special teams breakout star: Hauschka - if he keeps XP misses to two or less all will be ok Most improved: Watkins Most declined: P. Brown - he was awful last year and I think he will be a training camp cut Rookie of the year: White will be the most impactful, but Jones will probably "win" this team award simply because it will be easier to measure his impact Best 2017 Free Agent: Hyde - If not then they will be lucky to win 5 games Worst 2017 Free Agent: DiMarco - overpaid and not needed. I would like to see Tolbert and McCoy in the same backfield in two RB sets Bounce Back Player: Darby - fingers crossed or they are screwed just as bad as they would be if Hyde underperforms (Guy who had a bad 2016) "You still got it": Hughes Bonus: Who sets a single season Bills record OR what Bills Season record is broken as a team? Clay "leads" Tight Ends with team record low reception total for this group. Bills may have worst TE group in NFL. Add a breakout year for Watkins, Shady and the other backs more involved in the passing game, and a tricky knee -- it all adds up to an epically bad season by this group of Tight ends. -
I'm anxious to see this d-line get going.
Dragonborn10 replied to Cherrybone's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lawson should do much better at DE. He was slow and fat around the middle last year trying to play OLB - even though he mostly lined up at DE. Now that he has had a full year to recover from surgery I hope he gets his conditioning right. I would like to see some packages with Washington and or Lorax at DE with Hughes playing OLB behind them. Hughes should be moved all over the place this year and be allowed to freelance. -
I'm not trying to be negative or bash you. But the same story is told of 10-15 assistants every year. They are the next great thing. Hell the current Bills DC was a can't miss coordinator that flamed out as a HC. I'm as guilty as the rest as I was firmly in the Todd Bowles camp and he looks terrible now. As I stated above, let's see how he does on Sunday with the things he can control. Get the plays in on time, get the player groups on the field, manage the clock, and decrease penalties. Do that and field a defense ranked 10-12th in points allowed and this team is in the playoffs.
