  1. Maybe Chan was right about consistency and fitting gaps. The play of the defense is much better and the players are all saying the same thing. But... They seem to be blitzing a little more. And Gilmore is switching side to side to take out their number one target. I don't recall him doing this earlier in the year. Not to praise him too much as all Indy did to free up Wayne was move him in the slot but it still looks like he has changed/adjusted after the bye week.
  2. McKelvin needs to be resigned. Only way Williams moves to safety is if Byrd isn't resigned. I think the only way Byrd leaves is if he refuses to stay. I think they will make him the highest paid safety in the league. Williams is still young but he was awful except I thought he was ok in run support.
  3. Draft or sign in FA no less than three LB's and start the best three no matter how much they make or how experienced they are...Resign Byrd and McKelvin then let Mckelvin, Brooks, and Williams figure out who is the #2,3,4 DB behind Gilmore. Searcy and Williams continue to split time though I suspect/hope Searcy starts next year.
  4. Yes he didn't start at LSU last year which is a CB factory that had a top 10 DB drafted by Dallas and a Heisman Trophy candidate at the other spot. He played nickel and is reportedly faster than both of the starters. If he had not gotten hurt he would have been the nickel or dime DB.
  5. Terrible schedule for us in the Pacific NW. "Closest" road game of any interest would be NO.
  6. Urbik can play center... is he a FA at the end of the year? I am so glad we have four QB's on our roster who can play RT and RG in a pinch...
  7. Like someone else said three years three different positions. I thought it was a mistake to move him to DT but if he can be a solid DT in a rotation with MD, KW, and maybe even a healthy Troup next year the line will be set for a while. Next year will be a contract year too so he will have extra motivation.
  8. Twelve weeks too late and before Levitre makes no sense...but if they can get hmi resigned before the end of the season then they can franchise Levitre. Let it be the last htinkg Nix does before he lets Whaley take over...
  9. I'm just asking? What evidence is there that the city and this team can't attract FA's? The Bills have signed guys to big contracts all the time. They have horrifically whiffed on resigning their own guys like Pat Williams and Winfield. No way I owuld have matched Clements offer but I would have made Jason Peters the highest paid LT in football. They made Dockery the highest paid guard. Now maybe it is true the Bills can not hire top level coaching talent due to RW. I think there is good evidence that he does something to rub the coaches the wrong way. I think the whole league knows it and that is why they never get a top tier coach - and no Levy was neer a top tier coach. Levy was the beneficary of Polian, Kelly, and Marchibroda.
  10. Ok I will play...There are 32 teams. Who you draft would depend on your strategy. If the goal is to win the SuperBowl in 2013 I would draft Tom Brady. If the goal for your team is to build a contender for the next decade then sure Luck or RG# or Rodgers may be the way to go. But I think what you are asking is where do the Bills players rank if you ranked all the players. My guess is a Bills player would not come off the board until no earlier than round four. I can not see a single player on this team in the top 100. Now that would change if Mario plays the rest of the season as he has the last three games. No the fourth and fifth round of this mythical draft could be dominated by Bills players. Byrd, Levitre, Spiller, Wood, Mario, Kyle Williams, Stevie are all guys that could be on the list of 97-160. I don't follow all the rookies in the league but if the redid that draft I would see no reason why Gilmore and Glenn would not be first rounders. They have done nothing to disappoint. So in short there is no elite talent on this team but there are very very good players. We just need a few more at WR and LB.
  11. Seems to me there are more catastrophic injuries during INT returns especially to unsuspecting offensive lineman than on kickoffs with the new rules regarding the wedge. The decreased number of players used on the wedge and the fact you can't go low into the wedge probably has decreased kickoff return injuries more than the 35 yard line has. The Jared Allen hit on a Bears lineman was unnecessary. The hit that Wood took and the torn shoulder that the Green Bay player had a few years ago are just a few others. I know keep your head on a swivel and it's not flag football. But honestly if you are going to protect players how about protecting these lineman from blindside hits??? They protect defensive lineman from chop blocks and linebackers from crack back blocks. It is time to end these needless hits on starting offensive lineman. If they simply made it a penalty for any player to leave their feet to make a block on any portion of the opponents body not just the head that would eliminate many injuries. You could even state that any block not near the LOS or QB pocket must be initiated with the hands and not the shoulder. This would eliminate the violence of these collisions as no blocker be it on offense or as a defender would be willing to break a wrist to flatten a guy - but they could still make an effective block down field or on a return.
  12. I think there is enough talent on this team to win. I know the linebackers and WR,s are awful, and Fitz should be a backup. But this team feels more like the 49ers just waiting to explodecwith the right coaching staff. It is time for all the coaches to go and give Nix/Whaley one more offseason and draft.
  13. The end of the first half was worse. Nothing good could have come from thar field position. It should have been three runs, force Indy to use timeouts(they only had two), and then punt. Horrible and with not going for 51 yrd FG that may have benn a six point swing.
  14. 5-1 with a loss to the Seahawks. Seattle's defense is legit. The only hope is if they keep the game at 1PM EST and the Seahawks can't adjust to the time change well.
  15. Bills 27, Colts 20 Two straight trips end in the red zone with FG's - just enough to raise my blood pressure...It will be 10-6 at halftime. Bills then will score 21 unanswered in the second half and hold on to the victory while giving up some garbage points/yards.
  16. Having the best QB or second best QB in the history of the game makes winning a bit easier...
  17. Isn't that already called the wide 9? Bascially 7 defenders in the box and close to the line of scrimmage along with the two CB's in press coverage with a two deep safety look. Ask Philadelphia how that is working for them? I'm pretty sure there is no rule against sending a safety or a DB or a LB on a blitz from the 4-3 alignment. That is the defense that Greg Williams ran in Tennessee. It works great until you don't get to the QB. Most teams would rather play it safe and let the other team's offense make a mistake. Say what you want about Jauron but his defenses kept us in games. I prefer an attacking style of defense that causes turnovers even if it gives up chunks of yards. No matter what defense or offense is played it is easier for the offense to move between then 20's and easier to defend the red-zone. If you get turnovers, score points off of them, have good special teams, give up FG's instead of TD's, then who cares how many yards the defense gives up....
  18. As with all things in life the amount they gave up is all relative to the franchise. Pittsburgh does not spend big money on FA's. They live by the draft. Washington rightly or wrongly even going back to Bobbie Beatherd/Joe Gibbs simply uses the draft differently. Beatherd would trade the following year's first round draft pick routinely and Dan Snyder has shown he will pay anything for FA's. Like another poster said they will just spend more on FA's and fill one or two more roster spots with middle of the road FA's instead of unproven rookies. Is it the right thing to do? Who knows? It certainly can be no worse than holding onto the picks and then making one horrible choice after another...who does that sound like???
  19. So far Spiller may be closer to Harmon than Thurman. We hope Glenn is half as good as Wolford and better than Fina. A. Williams is JD Williams with good vision While I believe Conaln was terribly overrated, need to also remember Bennett was aquired with those missing picks. I will take Polian's draft with a HOF RB and several solid starters over what Nix has delivered so far...
  20. Moral of the stroy...trade down and get more picks...this guy was considered very safe. Williams was safe. Dareus though there is still time for him to get better was considered a very safe pick but who wouldn't want AJ Green now instead???
  21. Parcells didn't win anything without Belicheat Theisman's QB skills are only marginally better than his awful analyst skills. He is one of the two or three worst SB winning QB's ever.
  22. OJ and Jim Brown both wore 32; Art Shell, Anthony Munoz, and Bruce all wore 78. Can we just say tie... I love Bruce but Shell and Munoz dominated their positions just as much as Bruce did. 42 Jackie Robinson and Ronnie Lott...that is impressive too Homer here and anti-Miami bias obvioulsy, but Hasek's career seems better than Csonka's. I never saw him play but Hasek was a perrenial MVP candidate for several years. Csonka made the ProBowl in less than half of his seasons. #33 - Larry Legend, Kareem, and Roy ... that might be better than 78 even without a great football player #7 Elway and Mantle #4 Orr, Favre, Gehrig
  23. WiFi, wide concourses, better food options, bigger replay screens, and more bathrooms are just the start to what is needed. A significant rise in ticket prices with a smaller downtown stadium is the only long term viable option. The NFL can not compete with HDTV and the only reason the RW sells out is the low cost of the tickets. And with that you get the low class fans we read/post about in other topics. If NY State wants to keep the Bills the only way is a new mostly taxpayer funded down-town stadium complex with an iron clad lease( a photocopy of Jacksonville's would do). Otherwise I am sure Brandon has been instructed by whomever is making financial decisions for Ralph these days to delay any negotiations/deals until he passes away and the team is sold. We should all be very worried that no progress has been made. It means either the state could care less about WNY - gee that's a shock - or RW doesn't want to tie the hands of the highest bidder for the franchise.
  24. Cinci finishes with Oak, @ San Diego, Dallas, @Phil, @ Pitt, Balt They could easily win out as Baltimore may have nothing to play for. @ Pitt will be tough but who knows when Rapelesberger will be back. They get Dallas at home. We may actually be rooting for them to beat Pittsburgh if they win their next four. Then it would be us and Cinci. I think San Diego and the Colts fall down the stretch and Pittsburgh loses three straight. They have no running game and an aging defense.
